    I grow many of the Main Street coleus and love them all . I love the Flame thrower series as well. I took them apart. I wish you sold them separately. I was excited to find one of the under the sea varieties and the Mini me watermelon last year. Loved his video!

      We’ll have three varieties of Flame Thrower available as individuals this season (this was the 2023 preview)

    Beautiful plants! I love coleus but, it appears I'm also a serial coleus killer. Since November, I've gone thru 7 packs of seeds and have never had a plant get past 4 or 5 spindly inches. Even when they were big enough to pinch, I felt sorry for them because they'd worked so hard to grow 😒 My supplies are an indoor greenhouse , grow lights, seed starter and potting mix. Please tell me I didn't stunt them with over care lol I even journaled every step so if I succeeded I'd have a plan for next time. After all this, the only one with good roots were the experimental ones I put in water. In my fantasy, they looked like yours lol

      @UpNorthGardenMI  Год назад +1

      I haven’t started them from seed, so I’m not much help; but if you got them to the pinching stage, overwatering can cause them to rot.

    Hello 😊 I was wondering what are some good flowers or plants that can be planted with coleus/ share a pot? Would moss do well with it as well?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Год назад +1

      Begonias and alocasia were two of my favorites with begonias this year, but we’ve planted them with petunias, calibrachoa, dahlias, sweet potato vine. Just be sure the plants you choose match the sunlight needs and vigor of the coleus you chose.

      @@UpNorthGardenMI I was thinking planting them with some corkscrew rush. Do you think they would do good with some Venus fly traps or pitcher plants?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Год назад

      @@NganTran-pu4kq depending on how they’re planted, a large vigor coleus could overtake all those plants, but if you get a coleus that stays smaller they would pair nicely.

    If you are using the min street collection and using a 12-14” pot, how many coleus plants would you put per pot?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  4 месяца назад

      I've put three in a 12" and it was very packed by the end of the summer. You could use as few as one and it would become a bit of a focal plant.

    How far down can I trim my coleus starts and to make them more compact and bushy?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  8 месяцев назад

      It’s safest to leave at least two sets of leaves/nodes, but they usually are fine even if there is only one set.
      The “fluffier” varieties like Flame Thrower don’t usually need trimming.

    Hello I had asked you before about wave petunias in an 8-10 “ pot if I put one in each pot what else would I be able to put in that same pot. I’d also like to do a larger 20” pot for the coleus how many could I put in that size pot and what else to go with the coleus. Thank you so much for answering quickly the last time 😊

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Год назад

      Some folks will tell you 3-5 petunias in a 10” pot, but they are usually growers who need the baskets overflowing quickly for selling (and they’re not worried about who is tasked with watering them in the heat of August). I lean toward less is more with vigorous petunias 1 to 3 tends to be manageable (if you use 3, be sure to water and fertilize often).
      With the coleus, it can depend on what type of coleus. A 20” pot is a great size and you could go with

    • @UpNorthGardenMI

      3-5 plants (even more if they’re smaller varieties).

    I’ve never tried coleus but have a large pot in part sun part shade- if I wanted to do just coleus would 1 Main Street series plant fill it out like in those pictures or do I need multiples like 3 or 5 actual plants to get that big bushy look?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Год назад +1

      It really depends on the size of the pot. The ones in the photos likely have two or more in them. I had one Main Street in a 14" pot and it filled it nicely.

      You never know what you’ll find at the big box stores (every once in a while they get a really nice one). Independent garden centers often have more variety and types that perform better. Hopefully, you’ll find something suitable 😊

    Hi again ☺ I bought a six pack variety of coleus with an orange that could be 'campfire' and a mosaic, both of which are dying rapidly, after a week the mosaic is pretty much a stem on a lump of roots. It's almost like they're melting. The other four look ok_ish. Repotted, then I tried filtered sun, then direct sun and then shade. Nothing seems to help. I don't know if it's diseased or frostbite...

      They can be sensitive to cold. Where they exposed to temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit?

    • @bonniemccormack1361

      Quite possible. We had a couple cold nights and one with frost for sure and I’m not sure they were protected
