There have been so many times that I nearly baled on a painting because it looked like a muddy mess. I stuck to it and then all of a sudden…it looked great. Don’t give up. Time away, back up, take your time, and don’t give up. Excellent advice. Thanks!
Because you're my first watercolour teacher ever, I only noticed the 3rd lesson, of how so many watercolour artists dont get to the butter and cream texture only later in my journey. It is so true. It's the fantastic way to get that ultra depth. Thanks Jenna. You da BEST.
Cream and butter consistencies are so important to fully utilizing the medium. It doesn’t help that in Facebook watercolor groups, people are constantly being criticized for their paintings not being completely transparent. Or they shouldn’t use white and shouldn’t use black-more arbitrary “rules” that have made me leave most groups.
As a retiree and a beginner in the world of watercolour, I’m really enjoying your tutorials and your advice especially patience and “standing back” to take a look. You have a very easy style that makes learning fun. I’m on my way…
Love your videos and watching you share your talent! Your hidden giggle makes me laugh when it’s bubbling to the surface and you’re trying your hardest not to laugh!!🥰😂
Hullo Jenna, I truly admire your bravery in switching your go to paint brand! You have a very generous spirit too. I have also switched my go to brand to DaVinci Paints of California and I am overjoyed with the selections available in their watercolor paints and their other paint lines, gouache, acrylic, oils too! I had been off of paint and paper for over 15 years working digitally only. I do love how open the online world is to new techniques and the willingness for experimentation. I was taught that to use white in my watercolor paintings was akin to a crime! I am glad you are exposing the ideas of freeing up yourself and your paintings, thank you.
I am always looking for your videos, they are wonderful, down to earth and filled with amazing content! Thank you for always sharing with me and others! Karen Dirmish, learner
Patience is a virtue is the way I live my life. And I have learned on my own how to fix mistakes, lifting color and softening edges etc.. yes walk away and come back..that’s easy to do on drying time.. I love that part of watercolors 💕😌🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽 Mia
Because I'm coming from learning to paint in acrylics, I found that the creamy consistency came natural to me. So many people tried to teach me otherwise, to get more soft, pastel colors. My work may always look like a watercolor artist who paints like an acrylic artist, but I'm ok with that :)
Thank you for generously sharing your hard-earned lessons and creating a valuable learning opportunity for many artists. Wishing you a truly wonderful day ahead!
Jenna, I just found your channel by watching a RUclips short and I’ve just subscribed! Guess whose videos I’ll be binge-watching!? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! ❤️😊🐾🌵
Superb Tutorial! Many thanks for your words of wisdom and help! I just realized after working on watercolor that I have been using the "tea" consistency, partly worried about the price of paint. Will definitely work on this! Thank you!
I just realized I never "go back to" a painting. I let a layer dry when needed but I haven't gone back to a "finished" painting and considered doing more touches to it. Thank you! (Total beginner here)
So many times I think “it’s not good” , come back later and think “hey not so bad”😊. Advice to “ Paint for the trash can” gave me freedom to just play and not feel guilty….
Btw, really like this background and lighting and music for this video. It was perfect, beautiful but was able to concentrate on what you were saying the whole time.
This video is so helpful, thank you 🙏 😊 I recently began my journey and I’m learning to be good to myself as I really believe it’s all in the journey, not the destination. Your channel was recommended by RUclips and I’m grateful for your expertise and generosity! Thank you for all your time and effort, I know that it takes a tremendous amount of time and energy on your part 🤘💜
Your course sounds amazing. One of the best things I ever did was get a huge book of mixed media paper. I have some 'budget' watercolors and I play in it, I do exercises, and most importantly mock ups before I attempt a piece. ❤
Very interesting! I've dabbled in water color most of my life and never realized that I was doing it right lol! While I admire those loose washy looking pieces that somehow take shape, it's a technique that I've been unable to master so I just keep using them in the consistency you mention. Always thought I was doing it wrong.....😂
Thank you! I thought I was the only one using “butter” consistency in my beginning watercolor paintings. I love acrylics because I can layer paint on. Watercolor felt incomplete with just the lighter washes, so I finished my paintings with heavier paint. Problem fixed. I’ve actually had other artists question my decision to do that. I’m a fan for life, Jenna ❤
You have to watch the thickness because watercolor, unlike acrylics, will likely crack and flake off at some time down the line if it is too thick, so you don't want to cake it on. If you have had more than one watercolorist notice and question you about your process, then they may be seeing that while your work may look wonderful right now, you may be heading for trouble down the line. We can easily get around a lot of 'rules' but there are usually a few decent reasons behind most. You should check out some of the liquid acrylics . . . I say, and then realize that they may be too runny for the effect you want. Nothing wrong with mixed media, either, if you want to start with watercolor but then add some thick acrylic touches. Acrylic has a binder that will hold together that watercolor lacks. That said, you do you. I am definitely not going to stand in the way of anyone enjoying themselves with some paper and paint. 🥰
Another thing to remember is that once you've decided you've ruined a painting, you are free to fool around with it. You can try things on that paper you otherwise wouldn't because why not?
Number one is just like the deep Saffron in the Monk’s Robe: time in die solution balanced with time in the Sun. (Yeah I’m pulling that story from THAT book on meditation 🤐🤫)
Not digging your thumbnail. It’s caught me off guard a couple times thinking you either have blood streaming from your nose or you have a red paint brush sticking up there and had to do a double take a few times. Either way, probably not exactly what you were going for.

Yes! Not many teach about painting with the thick pigments! But I love it...
I'm definitely watching your tea to butter next! Thank you ❤

Thank you for your advice. You have inspired me to learn watercolours… blessings. ❤️
Thanks Jenna you're awesome 😊❤
That’s what working on is getting thicker paint to water consistency as usually go in to light or to wet! Ty!

Thank you Jenna. I posted your video to my sister who is struggling some what with her painting.
Thanks Jenna! Wonderful advice as always. I'm itching for your seashore book to be released here in the UK 🇬🇧.

@@debrawalters9746 You are welcome. Happy painting. 🥰
Much appreciated x

i would like to thank you for your videos.
i am a beginner interested into painting christmas card
where do i start
True, I can fix a painting even if I have to scrub 1/2 of it! But I can’t scrub the whole thing.
I really love your gold necklace. Can you share where it's from?
Number one is just like the deep Saffron in the Monk’s Robe: time in die solution balanced with time in the Sun. (Yeah I’m pulling that story from THAT book on meditation 🤐🤫)
I don’t see the free book link. Can you post it here?
The thing that confuses me about the butter and cream concept is how to get lighter colors that aren’t watery
Is your brother Drew from ITW?
Are you doing any retreats in 2024?
My grandkids are asking if you have a bloody nose!!!! Look at your opening still picture. 🤣😂🤣
Why do you have what looks like a paintbrush stuck in your nose on the intro picture?
Jenna I love your videos, but the thumbnail about gave me a heart attach, it looks like you have a serious nosebleed!
Hahahahaha. I didn't even notice it like that!! 😂😂
💟💜💟💜💟💜💟🥰
Was one of the lessons not to pick your nose with your paintbrush? Cause that’s what it looks like you’re doing in the thumbnail 😂
That's exactly what I'm doing! Hahah 😂
@@JennaRaineyChannel❤your reply😂 doubt any of these critics enjoy art or life. You do you😊
So, ten years and thousands and thousands of paintings etc?
You look like Heidi Klump.

Nice but if you bring it to the painting not only explaining gonna be better
SUCCESS!!!!!
