And you kept clean during the affair!! Tip: For those pins replace the bolt without washer and strike it to remove the pin. Protects the threads and keeps them clean. Better to replaced a headed up bolt than deal with pin damage. Colin :-)
nice work pard! Case is a dam good machine only flaw we ever found is the pins are to dam soft and need replacing way early even with beein greased ever day!
Hydraulics are the most fascinating part of any heavy equipment! Fluid doesn't compress. I guess what's cooler than the cylinders is the hydraulic pump. Cool job. However I wouldn't have done that wearing sandals with my luck I'd drop the sledge on a toe.
Sometimes I think replacing all the seals inside the cylinder is easier then then the wrestling it takes getting the cylinder out. I’ve repacked all the cylinders on my Case SuperE along with all the hoses. Even gave it a fresh paint job and new decals.

I'm just curious,why you didn't put a block of wood under barrel, then just take loose gland and ram and pull out and leave the cylinder in there. Seems like a lot of extra work to do to me.
I've rebuilt a cylinder or two before and if they are easy to get to like the one on the backhoe I always pull them. If you take the ram out you risk damage to seals/packing trying to install it in the boom = your dime. If i'm paying to have it rebuilt now all the tiny metal shavings and bits of rubber/packing will be flushed out and cleaned and if it develops a leak, no questions its their dime. just my thoughts.
Hi Chris where do you get those good quality "Swedish nut lathes" L.O.L . about the only thing I find most adjustable wrenches good for is using them as a hammer. A few of my customers try doing their own repairs before calling. They chew the crap out of the fittings then it's my problem to deal with when they rounded all the corners off, or busted the wrench with the cheater pipe as it wouldn't come apart. one guy destroyed a huge ex army wrench that was about 3ft ft long ,thinking he could get more leverage using a 20 ton jack to push on the handle.he was trying to remove bolts with 3" heads on that had been there for about 30 years!.
thats why there are left handed adjustable wrenches and right handed, they are really only suppose to be turned 1 way or else the adjustable side will flex.
I was kind of hoping that you would show yourself repacking that unless of course you are super busy I in the gentleman that I used to work for up here in Indiana a little town called Dunkirk we done his if not fun but it can be done

+Ken Rhodes they Break. but it's better than Losing a Toe because for it to be Osha approved it only has to take 45lbs of force from 4 feet in height. most of the things he deals with is over 100 lbs. That would crush a steel toe and could possibly cut a toe off. That Hydraulic Ram probably weights more than 200 lbs.
I have always wondered where OSHA comes up with its regulations. The steel toe is a joke when you work with things that are actually heavy. I use to work in the Ship building industry. Some of the parts we worked with were over a ton we all new that if they broke free and your toes were under it you could kiss them good bye.
I do enjoy your videos, but sir didn't your wise grandad tell you that there is no such thing as a safety sandal, I know it's hot but a busted toe/foot could lay you up for weeks, just an observation, keep the vids coming when you can.

I bought a 1966, ck 530 180 Diesel Backhoe for the farm getting ready to dig gravel out of a natural gravel bank on the farm

Well snazzy, I just bought cylinder kits for my CK580 and just repack them in place, takes an hour or so each.

Did that dent the tube? If you can crack the nuts repacking is easy. Buy the spaner from Case.
