The bane of my life(idiom) - meaning the cause of unhappiness or misfortune Puberty - the stage of life when a person changes from a child to an adult Emotionally vulnerable - has their feelings and emotions easily hurt Trivialise - means to make something seem less important than it really is Get through - you manage to survive a difficult experience or period of life
Thanks Neil and Beth. The bane of my life is suffering from claustrophobia, a very distressing feeling. Buying something over the counter won't help much. I feel sorry though for people who have acné because it's a very self-conscious condition.
My review vocab: 1. Puberty: the stage of life when a person changes from a child to an adult. - the onset of puberty varies among individuals 2. Get through: to manage to survive a difficult experience - after getting through having acne, he tries to help others have the same problem 3. Trivialize: to make something seem less important than it really is - we should not trivilize the mental impact of acne on teenagers as it could has detrimental effect on their confidence. 4. Bane of my life: the source of persistent unhappiness or misfortune - Having acne is such a bane of my life. 5. Emotionally vulnerable: be easily hurt - I'm an emotionally vulnerable person. 6. Over-the- counter medicine - Because I'm not a luxury that my family could afford to see a dermatologist, so I have to find an over-the-counter medicine to get through it.
This episode reminds me of my puberty with some acnes on my face which was not a good experience due to lack of knowledge. At that time, I didn’t know that it was natural and happened with most teenagers so I think it would be better for children when parents share their knowledge and experience about the changes in puberty with their children.
It's not new to all that all of us experience acne. But for me during my teenage years I only got 2 to 3 acnes when I am in my menstruation, but after my menstruation my acnes will gone. I know that acnes are normal and natural since we are experiencing hormonal imbalance. However, I experience worst time of my acnes during my 12th grade it was COVID-19. We are asked to wear a mask every time we go to school the reason why I had many acnes before. A certain reason why I had acnes before is bacterial infested. I was so insecure at that moment seeing others having that 'glass skin', but never let others knew that. It just happened that I realized I no longer appreciate myself where I seek for self-love, but never found it because I don't see myself valid and worth it.
When I was a teenager, I struggled with acne nevertheless it appeared in the back especially, when a I was stressful, I did not visit a dermatologist. Thanks for discussing this topic what adolescents suffer that impact on our self- esteem and confidence due to hormone disorder causing to emotional impact.
1. 'cohort' means 'a group of people who share a characteristic'. 2. 'It will persist well into the 30s, 40s - much longer than people often give it credit for.' - 'well into' in this sentence means 'advancing quite far into the 30s or 40s'. 3. 'self-conscious' means feeling aware of yourself (your appearance or actions) to an uncomfortable degree.
I was really affected by it when I was in primary school. It made me have low self-confidence. It was a very difficult time for me. Although I am 21 years old now and my skin condition is much better than before, I still get acne sometimes.
When Jeremy was entering puberty, he was very emotionally vulnerable. Jeremy trivialised puberty and tried to get through it on his own with some over-the-counter medicine, but that didn't work. Jeremy also got a horrible case of acne, which was the bane of his life because it left scars on his face even after several decades.
For people out there want to improve or control acne, learn or look up some ingredients: Tretinoin, Salicylic acid (BHA), Glycolic acid and acids belonging to AHA group, Azelaic Acid. It will help😊
Hidden spots ruin my life 😢 My doctor told me to come off but I didn't care much and consumed medicines with some overdose times and you know what? My mandible lines had problems.. even my hormone had the same situations... Like a roller coaster, I felt up-n-down.
