Good Morning Henry, a neighbor called me last night and asked if I could help them with their mower. I figured it would be a standard Toro self propelled model. This one ended up being a Cub Cadet rider with an 18 HP Kohler engine. I've never worked on anything larger than 7 HP so this was an eye-opening experience. I found out the spark plug cable was disconnected. Never saw that before. It turns out the clip in the connector wasn't tight enough and came loose. Really unusual. I closed it up with pliers and it snapped on properly. Next, I found they left gas in the tank last summer and the carb needs cleaning. I'm going back with Gumout tonight to spray the hell out of it. That should help. Thanks for starting fluid! I've learned a ton from watching your videos. Thanks for the great content. Keep making those videos!!!
You're welcome, you can sell the parts I don’t need back and those eBay dollars for contribution. I need to sell my kohler parts and others too. Glad to help bro

@@rogermcdonald1607 Thank you Roger. I try to give advice to Henry and others, help out when I can. Stay safe and healthy Roger, Henry, and all others in the small engine community...
Yes of course! I did that before this episode when I troubleshooted it. But….compression gauges still aren’t accurate with camshafts with ACRs. Compression release levers will skew the readings. Also these commands have non adjustable hydraulic lifters which contribute more to inaccurate compression readings. As you saw, we found out the reason why it had no compression, regardless of checking the compression beforehand.
@@MowersNBlowers I wondered about that "Compression release lever" issue. Know NOTHING about it. How it works, or what it looks like. Just condemned mine due to 50PSI compression reading. Has spark and flooded with starting fluid, but not a single pop. Just picked up gorgeous, CV14S from local Marketplace for $150! I'll install it tomorrow. Even has electric start, which my current one doesn't. I think its death was a blessing in disguise. 😁 BTW... Subscribed!
Great Video Henry. Have you got any of the new design stickers in or did I misunderstand? My mind has been in a million other places other than where it should be. Early on Monday morning, One of my former co-workers who is now the equipment supervisor called to tell me that our parts guy had taken his own life over the Easter weekend. He was the last person on the planet that I thought would snap like that- He was always so bright and cheerful to be around. As a former police officer, I am quite sure that you would be fully aware of what extreme stress does to a person over a period of time - The COVID protocols that were going on especially at our facility didn’t help matters to the least. Henry, I appreciate your videos a lot more than you or anyone else will ever know. I always credit both you, Henry & Jason for helping me keep what little sanity that I have until I officially retired from the quagmire in 2020. Yeah, You’re Stuck With Me!!! 😎😎😎
@@MowersNBlowers On a positive note; Earlier last fall I dropped a like new Sofirn C8F LED flashlight while I was on one of my tractors that I had accepted the fact that I would probably never see again So I was mowing this afternoon on my 165 John Deere in which I was going around a tree and happened to look down and there it was. The surprise was that the battery still had a good charge and the light worked just fine after being out in the weather all this time. I had to dig the mud from out of the heat dissipation grooves and the lanyard string was deteriorating towards the end But that is it. The Sofirn C8F flashlights are some of the best that I have found. Most generally these lights are shipped directly from China.
I have two cv491s Kohlers and cv16s and a cv15s Kohler i can get it running to an can get new starters for them to one part they quit making for those are the valve cover gaskets so you gotta make it yourself
@@rogermcdonald1607 yes it was all done in the video, right now, I will be doing mobile work for the next couple months super super busy, we had 3 guys that did mobile including me in my area, and the other 2 left for Florida, so it's only me now, I am going nuts, but the money is freaking awesome..... I don't video my mobile my customers don't like it, but will be doing some snappers when the season slows down.... Tks for asking buddy.

On the valve cover there is a little filter in there mine was filthy tossed it,is it an essential part?assembled mine without it.
Nah, not that important as long as it doesn’t leak.
Well at least bro you found out what caused the issue with that engine I never thought of the rings that caused it.
Now we know. Was thinking it was timing.
I was thinking the samething James!
I eventually got your name right
@@MowersNBlowers Mr Generator! 👍 Very knowledgeable and a great channel! If only he had his own Sticker. Lol.
Great video Henry.Hats off to guys like you👍👍👍👍👍
I heard no mention of the flywheel key. If it was sheared the engine won’t run.
Key was fine! That’s why there was no mention! If you watched the video, the piston and rings was why it didn’t run!
Fly wheel is correct
I will be replacing the head gasket on a 1999 Kohler CV16s this tuesday or so... wish me luck! 😊
Easy bro! Make sure surfaces are clean with degreaser. Make sure Governor is sitting correctly before closing it up. Timing marks are critical
Um, no offense, but isn't compression one of the first few things to check?

another great video Henry. To be honest, the first bolt was probably loosened by the DeWalt and then the Chinese impact finished it off
No one will ever know for sure
