tho Sam has killed an Other, a Thenn, and seems extremely gifted intellectually his greatest accomplishment is somehow staying fat throughout the series

Whats most sad about Sams story, Maesters take similar vowes to the nights watch. His father could have forced him to go commit himself to become a Maester, which is already Sam's dream, and would have gotten Dickon to become his heir either way. However, Randyll chose to be cruel and send him to the nights watch instead, separating him from what he loved instead of embracingit out of pure spite. Pretty horrible when you think about it.
If Randyll was smart, he would've sent Sam to the Citadel to become a maester and after that, to the Night's Watch!
Sam's father was not so much a father, and more a tormentor. He couldn't see the value in Sam, that most other father's would have loved to have. Tywin would have traded Tyrion for him in a heart beat. Ned would have guided him to be great. Jon Arryan would have done the same. Sam would have been a great intelligant lord. Who would have brought much wealth to his house. His brother could handle the military side. Its like Jamie and Tyrion, together they would have been a heck of a duo ruling the Westerlands.
Damn, the show went more off the books than I had originally thought.
+The Bastard i want more Sam in the show... they never showed us the change of babies and the stop on Braavos and they changed Maestre Aemon's death. Well... we could see the stop in Braavos in the next season

Samwell has some of the best chapters in the books.
I think that the "Perfumed seneschal" that Quaithe warn Dany about is Marwyn. Perfumed in the sense he is travelling with the "Cinnamon Wind". It fits how GRRM has a play with his words.

Nah I think George is referring to Varys who is always described as smelling of perfume. And also he is assisting the possibly fake aegon whom quaithe refers to as the mummer's dragon. Remember varys used to travel with a group of mummers in his early life

Now this may be a silly question but does gilly know that the kid she worried would get sacrificed to the others then being swapped to be sacrificed to r'hlor??
That's one part of the secret swapping plan that didn't make sense to me right away. were they going to tell stannis and Mel that they sent Mance's son away? if they didn't Gilly's boy would just die and it wouldn't make a difference. I guess they had to keep it secret until it was out their reach then reveal it.
I don't think it matters "who" they would sacrificed to.

But that was not the ultimate goal, he was going to be fostered so that if he met Lord Redwyne's approval he would be betrothed to his daughter. That was what they really wanted.

did Sam send gilly away? I thought he planndd too but didn't. as maester marwin takes the cinnamon wind with maester aemons body. ( its brought up in ADWD) I don't think he sent gilly away by the end of the chapter. did he?
I'm reading the books now so I didn't watch the whole video. I just came to double check that I understood correctly how Sam slayed Other and it was different from the TV show
So dragon glass can kill the white walkers but only fire can kill their undead army? Does that mean Jon Snow would have to be ready with both kinds of weapons? Seems tough...

I believe Sam does not visit Horn Hill in the books and goes straight to the citadel.
Sam has not stolen the sword in the books, he hasn't even been home yet.
