You can use the thinnest layer of PVA glue possible to coat a service and letting it dry before applying the crackle paste it makes a world of difference and the paste adheres super well. I have been testing on surfaces using this including bare ply and it has worked great. Boomer seals his surfaces using varathane(?) which also achieves the same result. Great video!

I think some sort of a black box under the bridge may work if you have that could use it to help stabilize the track at the end, hide the warping and also hide the turnout wire. For the pontoons I wonder if there is some wooden beads or something in the right size for those.

Scrape the paint off of the bottom of your car float apron and solvent weld some styrene cross members to straighten out the warp. That will straighten out the warp and be prototypical as there would be an framework under the apron. Good luck.

Amazing update and I'd be interested in how you did the water.

Thanks! I’ll have to do a tutorial on that soon.

I 3D printed an operational (and removeable) carfloat and non-moveable floatbridge (to include the half-turnout and points on the bridge side). Of course mine is based on the LIRR floatbridges (which have the "big crane" you mentioned) rather than the pontoon bridge the BTRR/NYNJ used. I would have to look up photos of the Bush Terminal/NYNJ pontoon bridge to see how I would approach it, but I can tell you with certainty it CAN be done! Can send photos of what I did if you like...!

You’ve definitely gotten the grungy city / water side scene down…application of static grass spruced up things…nice update…

The level of detail in this layout looks like something you would see in a Model Railroader article, and is really impressive! I’m beginning work on my first layout, and would like to know if you have any suggestions.

Are you going to add the office/caboose or the old engine house. I just associate those with that area of the Cross Harbor.

Awesome series. This layout is inspiring and it’s so neat to see your Trainz skills translate to real life (or vice versa)! It’s hard to tell that it’s N and not HO in some of the shots.

A real layout is so much more relaxing to build as it has its limitations due to room size etc .
I find building in Trainz I prefer smaller and smaller builds not the Mega layouts one tries to operate and gets lost in
I rebuild my N scale by modules as I dont have any layout room atm after the old layout went up in flames

Fantastic update - you're making really nice progress on the layout. In the spirit of happy accidents yielding good results, wondering if that open area with the poorly adhered crackle paste could simply be the remnant of a demolished structure. It just seems like it'd fit beautifully in there.

Thanks! I was thinking along the same lines. I think it's going to be one of those scenes that sort of develops itself once I complete the structures and get them in place. I need to stock up on some more detail items....

@@ApproachMedium that's a constant expenditure on my side too. The trash piles and jersey barriers are looking great!
