I have been collecting for years and have several hundred thousand dollars worth of cards from every sport and years this big problem has me concerned about my investments to be honest I kinda think it might be best to unload my collection and be done because it doesn't seem like PSA and BGS have immediate solutions and I already got burned for 5k on a fake BGS PRISTINE 10 Slab Giannis rookie about 1.5 years ago

    • @BreakoutCards
      @BreakoutCards  2 года назад +5

      It really is jaw dropping when you consider how many different fake cards/slabs have creeped their way into the hobby. Now, with this being said, I don't believe it is worth it to force sell your whole collection. Most fake cards tend to be very iconic with the #1 fake card in a slab being the Jordan 86 fleer. Even so, most slabs out there of major companies are real, but you must keep your eye out for possible fakes. As the scammers get smarter, we must get smarter as well. Hope this helps!

    • @Bnguyen276
      @Bnguyen276 Год назад

      Stop buying bsg and psa grading. Bring a magnifying glass because fakers don’t use multimillion dollar printers. The best way is to use a magnifying glass and it’s easy. It’s very pixelated. I stop buying high value cards long ago. I just buy rookie grades cards early, because it gives no time for them to make fake slabs or fake cards in time. That is why card companies are making high end looking cards. Just too hard to make a good refractor fake.

    Great video! When I purchase a graded card I always scan the bar code in the PSA app to see if it checks out, then check the borders of the casing for any sign of tampering, and finally check the slab header if it aligns with PSA style. Once that all checks out I always look at the quality of the card itself- don't purchase the grade, but rather purchase the card in the slab. A PSA 10 doesn't mean it's a PSA 10 quality from what I have learned over time so do your own due diligence before purchasing.

    • @norespectgiven2u
      @norespectgiven2u 2 года назад

      I've never used the app. But I'm getting bigger into buying graded cards after holding out for so long. It's a good tool then? I'm always worried about this on ebay cuz just looking up the serial isn't enough. I've seen duplicated numbers.

    • @Ed-ch4wq
      @Ed-ch4wq 2 года назад +1

      @@norespectgiven2u I guess if someone wanted to fake a slab, they would probably photocopy someone else serial and bar code. It's not a full proof method, but it does help as a starter. I usually scan the bar code and compare it to the serial code. The rest is judging the case and the card itself. The rest is by looking at seller historical feedback, etc. I personally haven't seen any duplicate # before- even when I get my cards reholded, PSA would give me the same serial # back.

    I bought 2 stolen lebrons that someone had claimed didnt get delivered from clearwater show and also a fake nolan ryan elite psa 10. Had message to contact PSA as well on Lebrons. Seems someone in Tampa was ordering high end cards and telling AMEX he never got them and then sold in person at shows.

    Been collecting all my life and nothing pointed out stands out all. A lot of cards are small in the holder. A lot of edges are inconsistent. If the plastic slab markings had checked out - from the pictures at least, they’d have fooled me.

      I had collected since about 1974, it’s going to get harder to sell as the industry is slimy now. As you mentioned the fakes are pretty easy for a lifelong collector but the fakes are just going to get better as time goes on. What a shit show

    I don't like it but how is this illegal??? They are selling pieces or cardboard not legal tender. If you can't tell the difference that's your fault/problem. PSA can sue because of misrepresentation but this is not technically illegal.

      I always look up certs and prior sales and match up pics. If something doesn’t look right I pass. Be careful with most consignors as many of them will sell anything. But it frustrates me too. I don’t even usually buy super high end cards but even find questionable slabs at a few hundred dollars. Remember a lot of these cards were double and triple the price in early 2021. So they may be in the cards for more than the current value and motivated to scam sadly. I wish all grading companies had photos of every graded card easily accessible.
