NTSC and PAL have nothing to do with DVD regions. The Encoding on the disk is MPEG 2. DVD regions mainly have to do with motion picture politics such as a DVD may be released in one region on a certain date, and a different region at a different date. Some DVDs are even region free. They can be played anywhere. The problem with freezing may be due to that being a cheep DVD player. It is hit or miss however to see which DVD players play DVDs from different regions. Some models you can even change the region by obtaining access to the service menu settings. However NTSC and PAL have to do with the television in itself. They are two different analog broadcast standards that are very similar. So it’s up to the TV as to which it prefers. DVD players also have an output option for this regardless of the DVD region.

Does that happen often where the brand on the product and the brand on the box do not match? I had no idea this could happen or was even legal. Interesting!

Yeah, it is odd. I distinctly remember the name on the box was very quirky. A one syllable name I think. Maybe it will come ro me later!
