This is great info I stumbled onto. My tech is starting a 67'JTM 50 build and I kind of want it to have one foot in JTM land and a big toe in Super Lead world. He felt splitting the cathode wasn't a good idea, I'm thinking about something like adding a bright cap with a switch. We're also doing a switchable SS/tube rectifier.I love aspects of both types as I've heard them played. This will be my first 'vintage' Marshall.
Had a big smile on my face when you dropped that the low string to D...it sounds awesome mate, ive got a jcm800 never tried to dial an adam jones tone with it.... be interesting to see if you can get close with the 5150... i love my 6505 so loud though
Awesome tones! Are you Using anything to boost the signal? I can’t seem to get the same tone without a boost of some sort on my superlead unfortunately, even with the thing cranked,
Great sounding head! What would you say are the biggest tonal differences between the AJ specs and a traditional Super Lead circuit? Is it more of a sound or feel thing? Thanks a ton mate!
Hey man, you’re using IR’s correct? The suhr doesn’t attenuate correct, so you’re getting all this straight from a computer? I never used any of these devices, two notes, suhr, boss tae, etc, I noticed they all have a bit of a different sound. This sounds pretty nice , was curious though since I’d like an attenuator
You are correct on all points sir. I went with the Suhr because it was the only load box. that actually kept the feel and response of plugging into a real cab. And yes load box’s are not the same as attenuators. A load box will just reduce the sound to a line level.
What circuit changes make this different then a standard 76 Superlead? I have a 50w 76 and just wondering if it’s worth doing these mods to it. Thanks!
As loud as super lead goes. After that it only distorts more. So maybe something like 120db. I would say unuseable level for most situations. Check the diezel settings as well. If you're familiar with those, you know he runs that really loud as well.
Also, you mentioned to someone it may be easier to just buy a super lead if they want to do the mods but even with the mods, wouldn’t it still have more body/weight and density to the tone than a super lead?
Thanks for your responses . I might be getting a superbass locally . I definitely prefer the sound of this one over the other superbass video you have playing a gretsch and sg. Probably is down to the mods a la Adam jones I guess . I see you mentioned some of the mods can be found online, is there anyway you would be willing to share the mods/specs to this amp? If not I understand , but if it’s no biggie I’d be interested Either way thanks for your input
I remember now. This amp did have a bright cap! I removed it as requested by the customer to copy the AJ spec, BUT! It sounded lifeless and lost its snarl so I put it back. It works for some amps, but not this one.
"Do not know any Tool riffs" *plays Tool riffs*
Lol, I did pause recording and learnt a couple
Lol

What you did here sounds incredible! Well done indeed!
THancks so much to share this knowledge and taking time to tell us how you re working together with Jones
Rosalie sounding great!
Love your channel man... Hetfield, Jones...always great playing and talk ..great find
Huge and rich sound 👍👍... Thin Lizzy 😍

Glad you enjoyed it. Might be tricky with a 5150 style circuit. Might have more luck with the crunch channel on the 5150
Nice I can not believe the tone at channel 1 Vol 2....ay yi yi... Nice!
this is a reminder that I need to try everything on 10!
That sounds killer! 🤘🤘
Digging those Gov’t Mule riffs!
I like that Thin Lizzy part!
Sounds just like my 73 and traditional Les Paul

No boost, you may need your superlead checked.
Mine also not half as gainy. Is it stock circuit?
One of the best Marshall amps i've ever heard, do u used attenuator here ?
I was using a Suhr reactive load
Even down quite low on the volumes it seems to have quite an edge. Meaty sounding amp, also that Burny sounds wonderful! What pickups are in it?
Just a cheap set of ToneRider Alnico IV’s.
Thanks for watching!
Anyone know if Adam has his amps volumes 50/50, or is one set louder than the other?
Great sounding head! What would you say are the biggest tonal differences between the AJ specs and a traditional Super Lead circuit? Is it more of a sound or feel thing? Thanks a ton mate!
To be honest, very little.
Is the output transformer the same in a super bass and a super lead?
@@katman11 , yes.
13:00 mark...That's what we came for.😑
Oddly enough, Chad Taylor from Līve has similar tone.
#GASisReal
So....does Jones run this amp in a very distorted manner like this? How does it work with the Diezel when he plays live?
You have started to test w/ sm57+royer121.
To which mic combo have you switch to on your suhr when you played in drop D?
I changed to a v30 loaded cabinet. Same mic’s
Sounds awesome! I thought superbass was a shared cathode. Are they the same circuit as a superlead with no bright cap?
Has anyone ever talked about the filtering on Adam Jones' Marshall?
I was told theres just one resistor in the tone stack to give more midrange headroom. It sounds thwacky and nasally like any jmp does.
Man these use to be somewhat attainable but now the price is ridiculous
Like many things unfortunately

Hardly anything, the only mod I consider quite different is the .68 cap across the presence. Certainly has a different character.
What decibel level is that when you have the Adam Jones setting volume levels?
I have no idea thanks to the reactive load. I betting it would be freaking loud!!

What is the best modern age Marshall that will sound like this cheers
A used Marshall Vintage Modern would be my choice to get close for a lot cheaper.
Add an eq pedal and that’s it… early Adam Jones tone
Marshall 😮
I have one I'm refurbishing would like to talk to you about it

Where do I find these schematics?
Did you go with a .005uf bright cap?
Also, you mentioned to someone it may be easier to just buy a super lead if they want to do the mods but even with the mods, wouldn’t it still have more body/weight and density to the tone than a super lead?
Not really. The changes between the super lead and bass are small and minimal.

What value bright cap did you use?
What ever Dave Friedman said it should be. 500pf I think…
@@RDamps dave told me he didnt think adams amp had a bright cap… hmm

@@RDamps i have an AJ spec amp, im deciding whether i should put in a bright cap.
You could put it on a push pull pot
Sounds amazing - Burny Super grade les paul?
Yes it is 👍
Hi. Can I ask you for modifications (step by step) and send them to my email? I plan to buy Marshall Superbass 76´ amp.
In all honesty, it’s easier to start with a super lead. I can send you a list of the mods
ok, I try write you to email.@@RDamps
@@RDamps Seems like there's a billion "super lead" out there. Can one start with any super lead?
@@RDamps Could you do it to a JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead?
hi mate. what's your email please? regards david
If you send me a message on instagram or facebook (in the description of the video) I can give it to you there. Thanks
Oof!!!
