The amount of engineering that goes into designing and building a ship like this is mind boggling. When i was a kid a ship of this type, smaller obviously, came into Kahului Harbor on Maui and loaded an entire railroad. Not the cars, but the running gear, locomotives and steel rails. The captain and first mate operated the entire lifting apparatus, it was really amazing to see.
The engineering of this thing is insane, it's basically a mobile floating dry dock they flood the ballast tanks and the entire hull submerges with just those superstructure towers above the water, then another massive ship is manoeuvred over the submerged hull between the towers and the ballast tanks are pumped out again to lift the ship on top up out of the water.
Shipyards, train whistles, kittens meowing, rain on the leaves, soft thunder, sea gulls calling, my little Penelope's last breath. If they're not in Heaven, I want to go where they are.
imagine if a ship like that was turned into a billionaire terayacht cruiser, lol. there could be apartments in all of the four towers and a golf course in the middle surrounded by trees
Hmm... Interesting. How does it handle in heavy seas: whipping rolls or head on 60 ft swells? Will the towers manage without fractures st the base? Sorry for asking, just interested.
So it’s a floating drydock capable of lifting the largest Carnival Line cruise ships. It’s no wonder that Rotterdam is the most advanced engineering design port in the world.
and there is me having trouble parking my normal sized car. how does such a ship which is basically bigger than some villages dock without running everything over?
You can almost carry an aircraft carrier on that ship. Maybe not a combat nuclear aircraft carrier but definitely a landing craft helicopter carrier amphibious warfare ship
I feel like in a bad storm or with a rogue wave. That bridge is the first thing to go. I understand you wouldn't use the ship like this in a storm, but typically mother nature has other plans when it comes to that kind of thing
@@BigTArmada It's got the same likelihood as any other direction, that said, even in the side on profile the superstructure is likely tied into or part of the bulkheads. Finnish design, built by Hyundai, you know the engineering has to be good. I think the ultimate answer is as you said, this ship isn't used in those sort of conditions and steers wide around any inclement weather.
@@noahmoore2684 Engineering has no bearing on physics. I'm certain the point of contact between the bridge and hull is reinforced in a multitude of methods, but I'm also sure that placing that tall (and heavy) a structure on what effectively becomes a pivot, creates excess force that need not exist with a different design.
I've been there to the port of Rotterdam, and I hope they soon take back their title as the world's biggest port like it was back in the mid 90's when I was there.
There is a true calm in this video. The music is the sound of the sea and ships. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. This is what helps make RUclips special.
OCCITAN KEY könnte etwas Pflege vertragen, sehr verrostet das Schiff. Leider sind die mit "Schweröl, Diesel" betriebenen Schiffe nicht besonders umweltfreundlich.
Excellent Mega Lifting Vessels. With two fixed, two retractable azimuth thrusters, AND a bow thruster, she still needs a tug to help move about. Talk about unwieldy! This was the last of the hull-up builds for Dockwise before they were bought out by Royal Boskalis Westminister N.V.
Spectacular piece of nautical engineering and construction. Outstanding capture.
Love to listen to the sound of ships gliding through the water. Very relaxing!
Thanks amy:-)

BOKA VANGUARD is a maritime oddity. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you:-)
For centuries the Dutch have bin ruling the seas
😮Woah that's gigantic
Another great watch, thank you for your work!!
Thanks James:-)

SO, if you're in the middle of the Southern Indian Ocean and you need a valve job, call them on a sat phone. Awesome!
@@orchidorio Exactly, and that will probably only cost you 3 or 4 mil, cheap
When it comes to filming maritime traffic, this channel is the best. Congratulations. 👍🏽X %

Would love to see the crew facilities on that thing.
👍👍👍👊😎
Some of those vessels looked to be on the empty side of expense/profit.
A lot of cargoes are one-way; loaded inward, empty outward. E.g. crude oil, iron ore
Im scared if a guy jumps on the wrong side of that tower the whole thing is gonna snap and fall off

Can that thing really be seaworthy? 🙆♂️
Superb shipspotting. The first ship, I can't recall seeing one like that before.
Thank you:-)
It must be really strange sailing in that ship
That life raft drop is severe.

Or handle the Great Lakes.
Wow, a ship with outstanding looking!!!
Where's the rest of it..?? 😂😂😂
😂😂
@@airliners.ships.channel I will say though it's a great looking ship for what it carrys on it..👍🛳️
Super video about today's mighty vessels ! Very well done creating the right atmosphere.
Thanks:-)

Genius designer ship.

i would have to 🛌 after climbing those stairs

I'd think the tiny frontal area of the bridge "tower" would make it even safer than a normal ship

Super Cool !!!
Could probably land a C130 if needed! Like to rent a room, too!
No matter how big a ship, it is still a tiny blip in this vast ocean. And a human being is a super micro blip

😮 the true marvel of modern engineering
Kapal yang sangat besar².
Designed after one spliff too many in a coffee shop in Amsterdam!
Seriously though, what an amazing piece of engineering. A modern wonder.
It's Tanker/cargo, what it's?
@5:23 is that a Callesen diesel I hear? is it coming form the ship with the Dutch flag?
Wow that is a tall pilot house on the lift ship.
Wow
Looks like the ship submerges to allow large cargo to float onto its gigantic platform, then the ship floats back upward with yhe cargo and sail away
Yes, can lift up to 110000 t,
here is a video of the onwer company boskalis, where it lift up a cruise ship:

I wonder if an aircraft carrier would fit on that... a submarine certainly will.
Does anyone have photos or videos from the bridge?)
Now that is a BIG mover !
Amazing video.❤❤❤

Eighth wonder of world .
Wow,just wow.
Als zeeman wil je toch niet op zo'n gedrocht varen?? Wat een misbaksel.
This is Northern Europe's engineering at its best...Finland to be precise
And the Dutch owner operator that ordered it this way.

lol how the hell is it balance i was waiting for it to capsize the whole time, such a hater. Great Engineering

Wild machine....that would be a punishing "ejection" to get launched on those lifeboats! BAM!
It looks like something a cheap ai image generator designed. Cool tho
I didn't realize such ships existed until now.
IT is easy to recognize the safe distances around the shipping, just on working person's regular.

Interesting piece of engineering. What is this used for?
Excelentes ejemplos de buques de última generación,muy buen trabajo!!!!!!
I hope that comes equipped with an elevator.
Stark reminder of Reality. Proper planning, $ , time . Results that last & can be trusted . Congrats to everyone .
That's a floating dry dock WOW so very impressive and the engineer of this massive ship
Hate to be on any of those container ships in heavy weather.
This thing could hoist a Ford-class supercarrier out of the water. That’s bananas.
I can´t say that BOKA VANGUARD is a pretty ship, but it is impressive
The first one, very futuristic design, and a true engineering marvel of Dutch and Korean naval architecture as well ❤
I wonder what it costs to contract this ship per day!
Can this ship been used for recovery of the Fremantele Highway before it sinks?
Still not big enough to lift up our economy 🥺
The crew of this gigantic ship pretty sure the salary is not an issue to the owner...that really huge piece of engineering....
It has 3 apartment complex🤔
anyone with pictures or videos of the view from the bridge please share

Ship dock wise
It ain't much if it ain't Dutch...!
Thunderbirds are go !!!
anyone know of any more specialty crafts like the vanguard? awesome vessel
