The reason why the silence of the lambs was so good was because it was incredibly clever and didn't just rely on the shock factor. Also the ending shows that he is blending in with society and has no intention of seeing starling again. The reason their scenes together were so good was because they couldn't physically touch eachother and the dialogue was amazing.
However, the way he put the titles is quite questionable. It was even better if they called the first "Hannibal Lecter-the return" or, I don't know, "Hannibal-Endless Escape"...On the other hand, "Hannibal Lecter-Hannibal" sounds pretty awful. Because the tetralogy is called with the name of "Hannibal Lecter Saga". I understand that Hannibal is centered around him and yes, I know it's taken from the book., but there are links to The Silence of the Lambs. And Hannibal has a fundamental and important role in Red Dragon as well. I err? But, nevertheless, it remains a very cool franchise.
I completely understand that everyone wanted to see Jodie Foster in this. And that Julian Moore wasn't all _that_ great at playing her. But that being said, imagine how difficult it was for Moore to even accept this roll? Playing this idiolized character from an award winning movie that was so superbly acted by Jodie Foster that taking this role would be a career killer for some actresses. So we all really need to give Moore a break. Julian Moore is a great actress, but this part wasn't for her. But honestly, have you ever really wondered _who_ would have been the perfect replacement for Foster? There probably isn't one, and I'm sure you agree with that. I also believe that any actress who played this part would've gotten ridiculed for it. I really admire Moore's guts to knowingly take on this role. You should, too.
Well ,actually this is the 'problrem' ,that everyone wanted to see Foster and not that Moore played it bad.. Since we had Foster in our minds as Clarise, and since she was so good we can't trully see how good Moore is in the movie.. As u said taking this role would be a career killer ,and since it didn't end Moores career that means that she was good .. I beilive that generally she would be a very good Clarice too if we didn't have Foster in our minds ,plus i think that Hanninal had some more problems that don't helped too and maked Moores position a little bit harder
Yadda Yadda Yadda she's laughably bad in this, the disappearing and reappearing accent is icing on the cake. Moore is great in boogie nights but I'll always remember her for ruining the lost world, she was just so boring
they replaced her because during the scene at the end of Silence of the Lambs where the original Clarice is searching in the dark for the killer, she was actually in the dark and it terrified her so much that she quit acting for like a long time
Silence of the Lambs is hard to beat. I heard Jodie Foster turned this one down because she did not see any challenge reprising her best role ever, which would be really hard to top.
I actually really *do* love this movie, but it bothers me that they had her say after being asked if she thought that he'd come after her, that she says, "Oh, just 30 seconds of every day." When in reality in the book she says, "No." "Why not?" "Because he said he wouldn't. "
This movie was just as good as it's predecessor "Silence Of The Lambs". The problem was it came ten years after "Lambs" so people got an exaggerated and inaccurate notion in their minds to what a "perfect" sequel to the original should look like AND they didn't accept Julian Moore which in my opinion could have just have easily played Clarice Starling in the original instead of Jodie Foster, who did fact did an outstanding job herself. Then of course the shock value of who Hannibal Lecter was was gone. But it didn't change- he was the same psychopath. Please think about it.So when you come across a typical and basic movie rating of "Silence Of The Lambs (1991) you justifiably see four stars on a four stars system, but when it's "Hannibal" (2001) you very unjustifiably see typically only two stars, when that movie should be four stars too.
Seeing the trailer alone made me think to myself, Hopkins doesn't even sound as convincing in the clips he's shown in here as he was in 1991. My impression was that either he didn't like the material (which he later admitted was the case), or the dialogues were bad. It's fine if you still liked the movie, but maybe there are more reasons than you think that make people dislike this movie more than its predecessor.
first time I saw this film I didn't like it. But on repeated viewings I've grown to love it. It is a very stylish and sophisticated movie. It's more subtle than other Hannibal Lecter movies. It's beautifully filmed, has superb performances, and great cinematography. Great music too. Perhaps my favorite scene is where policeman Pazzi visits Hannibal and Hannibal just toys with him because he already knows he is after him, and somehow even Pazzi on some level is aware of this. 'People don't always tell you what they're thinking, they just see to it you don't.. advance in life. I'm sorry Commendatore, I too often say what I'm thinking'.
I totally agree. It is my fav of the trilogy. There is more Hopkins, who is such a brilliant talent in this. It is subtle and that's what I love. You are right when Pazzi visits him my heart stops beating. I'm like, get out of there you idiot.
Jodie foster was flawless in the first playing basically a very young university student but Jodie foster is also superb playing the older Clarice starling. Not sure how people get so fussed about it. I believe it's only because they liked the first one so much
I have never seen the first movie... actually just finished watching this one and I see in the comments Clarice is played by a different actress... well since I have no connection to the first actress I can say this woman did a wonderful job at playing the character.
I just watched "Silence of the lambs", Red dragon" and Hannibal, really bone chilling. Why not have one more, after all Anthony and Jodie are still around, you could include Edward to make it more interesting.
Underrated. Think of it as a stand alone film and don't compare it to silence. Will be appreciated in the future. The book is almost impossible to adapt to a film so give it a break.
Anthony Hopkins is to Hannibal, as Dennis Franz is to NYPD Blue. As long as Anthony Hopkins is in the story, it has a good chance for success. He is a class act.

The silence of the lambs bagus. Mengangkan dr awal smpe akhir. Kalo hannibal memang diawal agak membosankan krn terlalu banyak bicara. Tp mampu menghangatkan hati melihat pedulinya lecter terhadap clarice. Apalg endingnya. Itu benerbener bikin enyesss. Gatau gmna jelasinnya. Tp bagian endingnya itu berkesan banget. Betapa lecter menyayangi clarice dan gamau nyakitin clarice bahkan mengorbankan dirinya sndiri😭 Jd hannibal menurutku lebih ngena dihati

For years it bothered me, but now I think I actually like Julian Moore better. She seemed to be more closer to Clarice as she was in the book.
Walter Stevenson I thought they had better chemistry with each other in this movie than the last one. But that’s cause the actors knew each other already. Jodi wasn’t a fan of Anthony apparently
The silence of the lambs bagus. Mengangkan dr awal smpe akhir. Kalo hannibal memang diawal agak membosankan krn terlalu banyak bicara. Tp mampu menghangatkan hati melihat pedulinya lecter terhadap clarice.
Apalg endingnya. Itu benerbener bikin enyesss. Gatau gmna jelasinnya. Tp bagian endingnya itu berkesan banget. Betapa lecter menyayangi clarice dan gamau nyakitin clarice bahkan mengorbankan dirinya sndiri😭
Jd hannibal menurutku lebih ngena dihati
I never seen this movie yet. I did see The Silence Of The Lambs and Red Dragon though.
A movie I must watch!
Melhor elenco....melhor filme...
no inferno
Hannibal ♥
I really loved the 3 films it was a great movie loved the characters in it.
A legendary movie that freaks out, but to my admirers of sin
I rather watch 100 times Hannibal Season 3 than this movie
Vicente Campodonico TV shows suck.

Vicente Campodonico says all the God's of all religions including Allah, Jesus, Buddha, Zeus & Tom Sellack.
No man .. tv shows are cool but it depends on which type you are watching .. there are many tv shows that sucks but many others are really good and even better than movies x)
