Dunno bout you guys but I loved my fx 8350. I loved all the pcie lanes. I loved the 990fx chipset. I loved my crossfire setup. When I converted to 1st gen ryzen, I lost all them pcie lanes and had to give up a graphics card, had to give up 2 sata ports from 6 down to just 4. Among other things, when I upgraded I felt like I was leaving a lot of cool features behind on a mature platform when i moved to the new and young ryzen platform. Ryzen has matured since then and has become feature rich so its not so much an argument today but yea

I could understand under the pretense that i was buying it as a stopper chip before i upgraded down the line, buy the i5, get an i7 that only worked on the entheusiast grade mobo. Then I'd probably save more than if I was upgrading anyways. Although if I'm upgrading, why not just wait until i have enough for the higher end i7? Nevermind I can't think of a use for this thing.
i thought maybe you would pick the pentium g4400. it was an awkward cpu... last gen g3258 could overclock and next gen g5400 has hyperthreading. so it was a pointless cpu in my opinnion. but you are right, the i5 7640x was a way more pointless cpu for sure. love the videos, keep up the amazing work, always looking forward to the next episode =) merry christmas and happy holidays =)
The 7640X was supposed to be a placeholder for budget-conscious consumers who wanted to be on the X299 platform without having to buy both an expensive motherboard and expensive CPU at the same time. The idea was to get a 7640X when you first transitioned to X299, save up your money for a few months, and then buy a proper X299 CPU when you were able to. It makes sense on paper, but the kind of people who are budget-conscious wouldn't want an X299 system anyway.
I’m a bit fanbio as regards the Llano/ Socket FM1 and feel AMD really shouldn’t have just dropped it so quickly- there were some good ideas there. Today I play a lot with the A300 chipset which I feel harks back to FM1. While it was uncompetitive against Intel (for compute, but superior for graphics) you can still build a usable HTPC out of one if you aren’t going for 4K (no chance). And of course you can then trace the chipset development from there until Ryzen. I do miss when AMD had lots of APU and for a long while that was mainly what I built and sold because you could just about game on (some of) them. I actually have New Old Stock of FM1 with suitable CPU that I have to shift, in some vain hope someone will share my affection for them-ITX builds.
i seen 1 review saying this processor has dual channel and only 32gb of ram max. so the board is waisted with its 128gb potential and its not even allowed to use quad channel.
The only reason I could see this chip existing is for sales material. It gave Intel's sales team a lower price floor for their higher-end motherboards when pitching to customers, not that it was ever intended to actually be used by customers. Just my thoughts.
Started out with a 7740x then bought another x299 platform but instead of getting a 7820x while it was still $470 USD I could only find a 9800x for my x299 dark at a very low $660 USD. I figured I might as well get a 2080ti FTW3 hybrid. Boy, I sure burned a lot of money with these “upgrades”
You could combine this with the Assrock x299 Mini-ITX motherboard, GT1030 DDR card, 8GB of RAM, the largest PC case ever, and so you would have a computer that has absolutely no reason to exist at all.

I own a 7600k, I feel that it is even pointless now. 4 core 4 threads seems stupid today. I keep thinking I need rid of it, but yet cloacked at 4.9 GHz it still seems to dominate anything I've been throwing at it. Used 7700k CPUs are way too expensive still, so I may as well upgrade the board and CPU in the distant future
I think people use it for competitive overclocking because it is unlocked and is going to be on motherboards with strong vrms etc which allows it to be pushed pretty far on ln2. + you can delis it.
I know its Christmas day and I dont mean to spam but Do you think you could do a video on the intel core i3 3220
I know u probably get questions like this all the time, and for that I'm sorry. But I just got one and u haven't done a video yet. Ur my favorite channel to watch when it comes to older pc hardware, and thus this would be an amazing video for me to watch...
Just an idea please do it...
Happy holidays. XD
P.S. good luck with the COPPA stuff
7640x was so fun to play with though and the x299 dark motherboard from EVGA might be the most stable motherboard I've ever played with. I dream for the day it makes sense to go Intel again for another EVGA board.
Merry Christmas PCMR
I consider that thumbnail as a rare piece of art that should sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars
If that face doesn't say "Happy Christmas" I don't know what does
2:32 Look at those gains. Amazing. I guessed Celeron. Wouldn't have picked an i5, but you've explained it well here. Very much a strong pointless contender.
That face in the thumbnail. Lol, says it all.
The Sempron 2650 was way too underpowered upon release to do anything with it.
misigun it's a Sempron, wtf were you expecting?
You could use it in a NAS, it was OK for that, you could even underclock it.
Lol ok it was obviously targeted the lower segment
But i find ridiculous that even the browsing was so choppy on that thing, barely usable
@@Misigun99 Yes, but they still sell a Sempron I think? Just checked it appears they don't old stock. The cheapest is the 200GE Athlon for £40 which I have used for NAS as well and it is fine for a powerful NAS (aND BASIC pc i GUESS). I did have a PC with the 3000 Semprom (754 board) for a while and I think it played Fallout 3 at about 20 fps, but with plenty of dropped frames. It was a bad time in my life. I have a R2700 now
The athlon 200ge is pretty good actually. I had a sempron too back in the day, the 3400+. It was decent for windows xp.
Been using my fx8350 black for well over 5 years and its still kicking after everyday gaming use
Happy Christmas from Nottingham
bro, you should talk about the i5-530, what means a 2c4t i5 for lga1156, released in the beginning of the decade
Do you mean the i3 530?
jason campbell i5 LGA 1156 aboard from the i5 7xx generally only have 2c/4t.
Remeber, this was like 2011 where a fast dual core was recommended over quad core
@@gamersaroundtheworldunite3362 I just never heard of the i5 530, I think you mean the 630? But I get your point about the early i CPU. I had an early i5 and just remember not being that impressed despite it costing I think about £200. I think it was the very first ones without any 'apu' graphics but can't be sure a decade has passed. The i3 looked better.
@@twmbarlwmstar It's the only dualcored i5 in history
@@progressivevalen I see, quite possably the one I ended up with then.
Merry christmas RGHD!
I DID know it was going to be that one even before the "hello everyone and welcome".
I had the FX6300 and it was a great midrange gaming CPU with a lot of bang for the buck.
Congrats on 300K
the 7640X is literally a 7600K but on LGA 2066 motherboard makes sense because you could purchase a good LGA 2066, but didn’t have the budget for a i9 extreme... you could always add it on later
I love that everyone is tlaking about the thumbnail. So good.
TBF, the X299 platform is an enthusiast HEDT platform. On top of that, they are still supported by Skylake-X, Skylake-X refresh and Cascade Lake-X. The 2 Kaby Lake-X CPUs were definitely pointless and was only really there for people to cheese their way onto the platform... Just with less PCI-E lanes as a caveat
Merry Xmas dude :)
Have to love how natural your face looked in the thumbnail...
ngl, i was distracted by your reflection from the youtube plaque!
been with this guy for 3 years never disappointed me
that face made it even better
I put an i5-4670k cpu in a home rig using an nonproprietary mobo and Ubuntu OS. It’s pretty quick for playing retro games and other things.
Frohe Weihnachten Computer Mann
your videos are a delight 😊
Happy holidays. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Budget Lord.
Merry Christmas :).Until last year i was still sitting with a fx 4170 which was horrible but she did her job and are still running today my brother actually have a 3750k(i think it's called)and i upgraded the igpu to a rx 550 just so he can play some games. The onboard igpu was horrible.
I have an MSI X99S MPOWER with an i7-5930K 6 cores 12 threads bought in 2014, still fine today.
Merry Christmas!
I was hoping this would be the 9900k.
And m8 you should get into some 2011 stuff. It's really fun playing with the Xeons. I've had some Xeons and others do just fine at 4k and 1440p 120hz.
That thumbnail is priceless.
"there are no bad CPUs, only bad prices for them" - I forgot whose quote this is
Anandtech
the thumbnail picture is so funny xDDDD
Yeah
-reality- cpus is often disappointing
You rant on dudeee :) merry christmas :)
Your face in the thumbnail...😂🤣😆

I first thought about the I3 7350k, but my god I had already forgotten about those
I could understand under the pretense that i was buying it as a stopper chip before i upgraded down the line, buy the i5, get an i7 that only worked on the entheusiast grade mobo.
Then I'd probably save more than if I was upgrading anyways. Although if I'm upgrading, why not just wait until i have enough for the higher end i7?
Nevermind I can't think of a use for this thing.
Any am1 socket chip, and I speak as someone who has two
And I am here using an pentium dual core for literal 7 years
i thought maybe you would pick the pentium g4400. it was an awkward cpu... last gen g3258 could overclock and next gen g5400 has hyperthreading. so it was a pointless cpu in my opinnion.
but you are right, the i5 7640x was a way more pointless cpu for sure.
love the videos, keep up the amazing work, always looking forward to the next episode =)
merry christmas and happy holidays =)
The 7640X was supposed to be a placeholder for budget-conscious consumers who wanted to be on the X299 platform without having to buy both an expensive motherboard and expensive CPU at the same time. The idea was to get a 7640X when you first transitioned to X299, save up your money for a few months, and then buy a proper X299 CPU when you were able to. It makes sense on paper, but the kind of people who are budget-conscious wouldn't want an X299 system anyway.
like you said, x299 and budget don't go hand in hand
I never knew this CPU existed and how poorly it performed in comparison to the i5 7600k for the price of the motherboard. Thanks for this video. :-)
I love my 8700k. Excellent chip. Even handles 4 VMs at once, which is important when you get into advanced Linux.
That thumbnail Pic is perfect for memes!
Merry christmas all of you meatballs out there!
Love your videos, bro.
What about the a8-9500. It's an Am4 dual core that is literally mostly used to update motherboards.
i seen 1 review saying this processor has dual channel and only 32gb of ram max. so the board is waisted with its 128gb potential and its not even allowed to use quad channel.
my boy def just came back from a nice wholesome family Christmas dinner
The thumbnail summarizes all
Hi Vax, merry Christmas.
merry Christmas RG :))))
The only reason I could see this chip existing is for sales material. It gave Intel's sales team a lower price floor for their higher-end motherboards when pitching to customers, not that it was ever intended to actually be used by customers. Just my thoughts.
That thumbnail just says it all.
Honestly this video could have been made for any of the 7th gen I series, or the 8th, or the entire FX lineup for that matter.
me at the beginning of the video: "Oh I swear to God if you talk about the FX series..."
You could combine this with the Assrock x299 Mini-ITX motherboard, GT1030 DDR card, 8GB of RAM, the largest PC case ever, and so you would have a computer that has absolutely no reason to exist at all.
