A generation ago their love story would have been forbidden, now they share a love that crosses borders, unites countries and shows how far history has come. North and South tells the true love story of a dear friend of mine. I was visiting her in Northern Ireland when she showed me a song a famous band had written for her friend’s wedding, ‘wouldn’t it be amazing for that to happen?’ she declared. I started thinking about what a famous band would write for her wedding, were she to marry the boy she had begun to date from the South. Well… it’s a few years late for the wedding, but I’m thrilled to share their story with the world!
With a gorgeous melody and beautiful infusion of Irish fiddle and tin whistle, North and South features the vocal talents of Phil Davidson… who began his life as a Belfast boy. Dedicated to Malcolm, Judith, Robyn and Luca.
Produced by Nashville-based Erich Sandersfeld, "Fern’s storytelling in song paints musical portraits of the common glories of family life and walking with God. She takes away the veil that commonness imposes, so we can see the wonder of our God given stations in life. Always relatable, she shares encouragement, peace, and the reminder that God never gives up on us, never leaves us, and isn’t quite finished with us yet!" (Cody Norris- Gilder Masters, Nashville TN)
North and South- LYRICS
By Fern Johnston
She blew in on an autumn day
Didn’t know what was coming his way,
But when opposites meet, there is chemistry sweet
And the hours disappeared in a little cafe.
He’s a country boy born and bred,
And just like all the stories you’ve read
Stable and reason, meets flair and freedom
And a city girl fill all the thoughts in his head
Woah, North and South
Where they meet in the middle of a wee little Irish story
Woah, adventure will be to the ends of the earth
And they’ll make a home halfway there.
While he never could quite sit still
He will tarry a minute until,
The light in her eyes tell him he’s her delight
And the hours disappear in a little cafe.
It’s a story of finding grace,
When the differences seem hard to face.
‘Do you appreciate me?” is really all they will need,
As the author of life helps them finish the race.
Woah, North and South
Where they meet in the middle of a wee little Irish story
Woah, adventure will be to the ends of the earth
And they’ll make a home halfway there.
Love never fails
It won't give up
All it entails
Is holding on to Higm.
And through the years, it’ll keep on growing strong.
North and south.
Where they meet in the middle… of a little Irish story.
Woah adventure will be to the ends of the earth,
And they’ll make a home halfway there.
