I love the refocus, recenter. Not pushing or pulling your training or goals. Just doing what you love and you're so happy and excited. Glad you are so darn real!!!
I am scheduled to run a total of 104km, as my tribute run for my running mate who passed away last April 10th , 2020 due to heart attack. I mentioned to him months ago, about my plan to run 100km and will do it on April. Now, i have a reason to make it happen. Tomorrow, 21st April 2020 at 4am.... i am ready......thanks Sage I’ve been your fan since 2015....hope to finish and achieve my goal tomorrow......
Really excited for you to come to New Zealand, but gutted that I'm committed in Auckland that weekend! Try check out some of the nearby trails if you can. The Te Aroha climb, especially is wicked.
Thanks, Sage. Struggling with Achilles pain, but may run Tarawera for my WSER lottery qualifier, as it is down the road from Auckland. Will be supporting you regardless.
william dowling you must be in NE or KS I’m guessing - I’m a NE native. I guess I must have something against living in states with any topographical diversity!
I know you are still a bit disappointed on making the call to drop the Houston Marathon, but I'm super excited to follow your training journey for Tarawera! In the meantime, I'd LOVE any and all training tips you have for becoming a more efficient uphill runner, whether it be specific running tweaks or workouts or specific cross training exercises or tips. Keep 'em coming!
If there's any way you could make a tech running shirt option for the shirt I'd totally get it! I kinda have enough graphic tees as it is lol. Best of luck at Tarawera though!
Great vid. Good luck on this race. Possible vid suggestion: Maybe nutrition while doing a long race? For example: do the run and show what gels, water etc. you do at certain points
drfunk1216 I agree. It’s my understanding that WS 2016 didn’t go well for him largely due to hydration and stomach issues rather than the race being a net down hill. If memory serves, though he spent much of the race in 2nd place, he was still a few minutes under the course record pace at that time until Forest Hill (mile 62). I think he could do very well at WS.
check out my playlist on race day nutrition and fueling videos. Some depends on the weather...other factors include sweat rate and body size. Generally most people will need at least 200kcal/hour (if not up to 300-400kcal). Some of that can be from drink/fluid and some can be from gels/food. I drink plain water as well, but make sure to drink some electrolytes.
Go Sage 1st Tarawera, is Harry Jones gana be doing Tarawera? Like to see you two in top three, so far hasn’t been a very hot summer nz very mild coldish here in Levin 👍
I’m competing in a 5 hour obstacle race in June 2020. The aim, to get round the 12km course as many times as possible in the time. I’m already comfortable running a half marathon and have continued the miles from my half marathon training. When should I start to ramp up my training..my aim is to get up to 20/25 mile long runs with tempo runs/ recovery runs throughout the week. How long can those types of long runs be sustained..I don’t want to peak too early and be done in by the time the race comes.
Question, Sage! Do you have any issues with those sunglasses fogging up on hard runs from the sweat condensation on them? I'm in the market for some glasses and I'm thinking about the ones you have but I've had fogging problems with glasses in the past.
100km race that’s crazy .. I suppose you have over 20 years of running behind you to be able to do it .. I hope there is some money in it for you in the end .. that’s a torture slog to put it mildly
Look, I hate to bring this up... but if you ate meat you would be able to fix your hair faster. The extra protein goes to your combing muscles Good luck at Tarawera Sage!

As great a runner as you are, I'm always most impressed with your ability to translate imperial into metric measurements on the fly.

George Lane how long is that trail mate?
@@aaronlawrence6178 theres a few options. 3.9km is the shortest and the longest is 12km (that's one way). Total climbing is over 900m
George Lane yea it looks like a good run as Mt Te Aroha looks like a decent mountain. I’ll check it out one of these weekends.
@@aaronlawrence6178 the shorter trail will be a power hike rather than a run. Great views if it's a clear day though
All be best for the race, enjoy your stay in NZ!!!

Just ordered my shirt. I don't run any distance, but i do like to support 😎👍
Can you do a video on how to figure out how much calories and electrolytes to plan for a marathon?

That Hoka shirt looks 🔥
I came back to this vlogs because I signed in for my first 100k. And I'm so excited about it. Any Advice for a newbie Sage?
Boston marathon btw has 853 ft of climb and 1312 ft of decent.
When do you arrive in NZ?

Harry did it last year so I don't think he is going back this year..Tom Evens is running it this year though...
Yeah cool should be a awesome race, think Jim Warmsely has the course record or is that the 100 miler ?
This an old picture for the thumbnail or are we lucky enough that hoka is gonna bring back the huaka?
the HOKA ONE ONE Huaka was a classic!
Good for you for going to NZ! Thanks for the help. You have inspired me to take it to the next level. Good luck on the upcoming race.
Sage, are you getting a coach? May be helpful for someone with fresh and unbiased eyes looking at your training?
Totally off topic here, but does anyone know where can i buy that t-shirt? It is dope!
Hey Sage, I'm running my first 50k at Tarawera next month. Are you going to be organizing a meet up while your in Rotorua?
7:55 haha, that plug
Yeah....finally some stuff with international shipping ...:D :D :D
In Spanish subtitles please Sage 💪🏼
