Good morning from Windermere, Florida zone 9b.
Laughing at your comment on thorns. I'm 70, gardening over 50 years and a retired florist. I remember just how much I wish Roses DIDN'T HAVE THORNS 🤣
But watching each and every video you produce reminds me how much I love gardening. I take great pride in my garden and in making videos on my little sucesses. I hope you have many more years of being excited about your next projects 👩‍🌾💕🌿

It's amazing how entertaining it is JUST to watch you trim✂️ roses 🌹!!! The ONLY prob I've ever had with your videos is that I hate when they're over. 😩🤣 There's no one else that could make learning so fun. You're such a sweet 😊 teacher. I'll say it again, thank you for your daily distraction from my constant pain 😟 darlin. 💜

Yesterday my friend & I went full tilt into pruning the roses, shaping my globe spruce, cedars & removing shrubs. (Zone 6) Then we pruned a sandcherry tree that gets infected with aphids & ants every year. All the time we were cleaning & pruning, we talked about what Laura would do & how she would tackle each plant. What we realized was that the trees needed better air circulation, dormant oil spray & a way to keep ants off the sandcherry as they help spread aphids. We had so much fun! We laughed, we worked, we took breaks & took steps back to ensure we were going in the right direction. Thank you Laura for guiding & inspiring us to take on change to remove things that weren't making us happy & make change. Sincerely appreciated, your fan from Toronto, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦

You’re already pruning roses and trees in Toronto?! I live in the GTA as well but I’m scared the cold nights this week will bite me in the arse. I’m too scared 😟

    • @michelelee5339
      @michelelee5339 3 года назад +2

@@jhonalynapostol3225 Hello neighbour 👋 I completely understand why you are concerned. This time of year can be a bit up & down with weather but my feeling based on the weather reports for our area (which is closer to the furthest west part of the GTA) is that things are milder & more stable than other years. My gardens are slimmer & mostly run along the side & front of the house & I have a small backyard. So my plants tend to feel the warmth of the sun & heat from our house bricks & the direction we face which is SW. The soil here is able to turn easily & that's when I knew for my situation, that it was OK to start pruning & cleaning. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed it where you are but the trees here are budding heavily. I could see the aphids starting to plump up on the sandcherry & new I needed the dormant oil quickly & I removed some branches I didn't realize were cutting off air circulation. I've learned a great deal from Laura & am very thankful. I hope everything will be ok. Most trees, evergreens in my garden are 5 - 10 yrs old, nothing new or tender. So far it's looking great & we are in for some rain & mild Temps which should help out the plants. Now if only we had the bio-tone line here, that would be really helpful! 😁It's easier to follow than miracle grow & organic which I like. If you ever find any here, please let me know. I won't be planting anything yet but I'm preparing. annuals are the Victoria day weekend, but I need a cedar & a yew for an empty spot. I must say, getting out & touching the soil, cleaning the old & seeing the buds of my magnolia trees & perennials was an incredible feeling. I'm also redesigning a section of my side garden with a new arbour which is fun & intimidating. I humbly suggest to do your gardening when you feel comfortable & it's right for you. Early pruning is new to me as well. I've watched the 14 day weather forecast for a while, it gives me a better idea of what's happening. The soil is soft & my planters are emptied so I'm fairly happy. I hope all goes well for you this planting season. Most of all, enjoy your garden, run your hands through the soil, it's very healing for the soul. I found this quote a while ago (not sure who wrote it) but it is something that always reassures me & I'll share it with you. "A garden is a friend you can visit anytime" everything in little bits & when you're comfortable. Best wishes this planting season. 🌱💝😁

So glad to see you returning to the more frequent posting schedule. It's much appreciated and we all know how much work it involves filming and editing.
And have to say the lack of disease resistance Zéphirine Drouhin is displaying is totally offset by its lack of thorns and the lovely fragrance and magenta colour.
And worth treating roses to some well rotten manure alongside fertiliser, they're such hungry plants but in the large scheme of things so easy to look after with a bit of a schedule.

Thank you for doing this rose pruning video. I have all three of the examples you demonstrated and always felt so much anxiety when I went out to prune them. Pretty sure I won’t anymore. 👌

Thanks so much! I really needed the help. The first video I ever watched by you was your rose pruning video from your old house and it helped me greatly. It also got me hooked on your channel. You made it seem less confusing and achievable. Thanks again!

Thank you, thank you for this tutorial! I remember the videos from last summer when you would comment on the rose bushes on the chicken coop and how they needed to be trained. So glad to see the “how”. I purchased a David Austin climbing rose last year and needed to know what to do this spring. Thank you for continuing to not just show us what you do but teach us how to do it too.

I've never really wanted a rose (seemed like too much work) but you make this look so easy that you may have convinced me to give it a try on an obelisk like this!

I bought a very small queen Elizabeth climbing rose two years ago and it has all very large canes. It is a medusa of a climbing rose. A huge plant!

Aaron, can you make a montage of all the times Laura says she ended up pruning more than just a little 😂
Also, the timing of this video could not have been better for me. Very nice job, thanks you two!

Great video! I couldn’t help but wince every time you ran your gloveless hands up snd down the thornless cans of the roses covering the coop, lol. I did a severe pruning on my 17 year old carpet roses that stand 8ft tall. I limbed them up and planted winter snd spring blooming bulbs. My husband said I took so much off of them he is worried. But the space is so tight I needed to raise the canopy so the path stays open. After watching this, I am encouraged. You give me courage.

i have a beautiful climbing rose that i trained to grown over a garden arch, one really stormy day a couple of years ago knocked it completely over snapping the rose bush near the base, i wasn't giving up all my hard work so i cut back most of the rose, cable tied the main plant to an old fork i pushed into the ground making sure the break near the base was pushed back together, it survived and nearly two years later it is growing lovely, plants are amazing.
