    ABOUT THE PROJECT
Part of the appeal of this story is its fantastic illustrations. As Maurice Sendak says in his 1996 “Appreciation” for this book, not many artists are able to draw ideas. This project honors Jules Feiffer’s ability to make a threadbare excuse or an awful din something we can see. We lead viewers in appreciating Feiffer's unique style, and then try our hand at honoring him with our own "take" on his work. We celebrate Norton Juster here, too, by recreating his title. Doing so with mismatched letters bought at the “Word Market” lets kids experience a key scene.

    ABOUT THE BOOK
For Milo, everything’s a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he’s got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Milo visits the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping), learns about time from a ticking watchdog named Tock, and even embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason! Somewhere along the way, Milo realizes something astonishing: Life is far from dull. In fact, it’s exciting beyond his wildest dreams -Amazon.com
The Phantom Tollbooth is a fun, easy read-but it’s densely packed with wisdom, and gently drives home the value of education.
