    you are amazing! I am teaching the American curriculum for the first time this year and this just made me feel as if teaching standards is not as hard as I made it out to be. Thank you.

    This is really intersting for someone who is a teacher trainee for English as a foreign language and history in Germany. Glad to know that aligning the curriculum to the common core state standards is an issue teacher's face everywhere. ;)

      How interesting! Yeah, I hear in France it's very streamlined. One of our teachers always complains that we're turning into France, haha

    It's so nice to see how another middle school ELA teacher plans during the summer. I'm in NC and I teach 7th grade ELA. I plan almost exactly the same way when it comes to the vocabulary. I have a separate vocabulary notebook for words I need to teach them from the standards.
    Do y'all focus a lot on the Speaking/Listening standards? We tend to focus mostly on RL, RI, Language, and Writing standards in my district. (RI/RL mostly because they are tested)

      Andi Gardner Yay, I'm so glad to hear from another ELA teacher! Last year we focused HEAVILY on Reading Information and Speaking/Listening because the majority of our students are English learners. But I think we focused a little too much on those standards at the expense of others. If I had endless amounts of class time I could emphasize them all!

    Reading: if the students can't read teach phonic if the students can read the standards really,Language: really, Speaking/listening: not get into fights/shouting matches over when your get disagrees with you. Easier said than doneWriting: why can't it be how was your weekend, what happened in earlier class, or what happened last night, if anything else, what did you eat for dinner last night or that nightmare last night.Does school really have to be that difficult?

    I’m curious. What novels are you reading as a class? What poetry? What Shakespeare play are you studying?

    Hi there! I'm a first year teacher in Los Angeles, California and I really, really enjoy watching your videos. I love love your enthusiasm and personal style. Will you ever do a Meet & Greet? Or, if not, will you ever get a P.O box so subscribers can send letters? It'd be nice to meet one way or another. Thank you for the beautiful, informative, colorful, joy-to-watch videos!

      +PersonalSuccess Hey there! Aww, that's so nice of you! I would totally love to connect with other teachers in the LA area and "meet and greet." Hopefully someday that's in the cards for me! And a PO box is a really good idea, I need to get on that! I hope your first year is going well and that you stay positive and encouraged! It's so exhausting, but so worth it! ;) What grade do you teach?

      toocoolformiddleschool blog Thank you for the reply :) My first day teaching was August 10th and I am teaching a combination class. It is an insane first year teaching assignment because I teach all subjects (7th grade Math, 7th Grade English, 7th grade Science, 7th grade Social Studies, 8th grade Math, 8th grade English, 8th grade Science, and 8th grade Social Studies). It's a charter school. I have no free time but what little free time I do have I enjoy going on RUclips for inspiration. I am in an intern teaching credential program which is the only reason why I took this particular position. I have completed one year of academic work for my credential and I am currently working on my second and last year. In order to graduate I had to secure a one year teaching assignment. The tricky part was that when I was on Edjoin it asked me to submit a copy of my credential but my Intern Teaching Program wouldn't recommend me to CTC for an Intern Teaching Credential until I had secured a teaching position. It was a catch 22. So I had to take this position because they hired me a day after the interview and I really want to graduate and have my preliminary teaching credential already :) So far it's been very challenging but I love working with kids. I am truly passionate about helping them learn and grow.

      +PersonalSuccess Oh my GOSH, that is a tough teaching assignment! Sheesh! My husband taught at a charter school in South Central last year and had a similar EdJoin/CTC situation that wasn't so fun. The good news is that A) you're a total angel and doing amazing work, and B) there's going to be a giant teacher shortage, so once you have your credential you'll pretty much have your choice of jobs! ;) I know you LITERALLY have no free time with all the planning you have to do plus all your credential stuff, but try to take care of yourself as much as you can!

    You said you have 130 vocab words you want students to learn. Where do you pull these vocab words from? Where do you get your standards from?

    I know you got your social studies credential (from a video I watched). You're also teaching english now? Did you have to take the english CSET to be able to teach English? Only asking because I want to get my Social Studies SS! Thank you!

      @toocoolformiddleschoolblog  8 лет назад

      +Perla Navarro Lewis Hi Perla! Yes, I also took the English CSET, so I am qualified in SS, English and PE. It backfires though, because I'm always the one that gets stuck with a million preps!

    • @perlanavarrolewis
      @perlanavarrolewis 8 лет назад

      Thank you for all your help! I am hoping to study for the social studies CSET this summer. I'm assuming you had to take them all for english? I believe there are 4 of them. Did you feel like they were really tough? Sorry for all the questions! :)

    • @toocoolformiddleschoolblog
      @toocoolformiddleschoolblog  8 лет назад

      Yes, I took all 4 for English in one sitting and barely finished in time! I think it's computer-based now though, so it may go quicker. I just studied super hard for all the tests I took, so I felt prepared and none seemed too difficult.
