I had a problem with my hot water getting cold after only being shut off for a short time - and not luke warm but dead cold. This video and a few of the comments gave me a clue. I had a faulty mixing cartridge in my shower which was allowing water to flow when the shower was off. I was able to verify this by installing some isolation valves on the lines to the shower and shutting them off. Then everything was back to normal. So if you are having a similar problem and have a single handled mixing type shower valve, you probably have a faulty cartridge.
I do apartment maintenance and that comen issue shower mixer valve go bad and cause hot water in toilets and cold water, mixer valves are a single hand fixture that controls mixing cold and hot with one valve when they go bad it mixes hot and cold when not even In use... That faucet has two valve so you manually adjust cold with hot and mix it the way you want water mixes at the nose of faucet now mixer valve is since handle one way for cold other way for hot and it mixes c/h water at the valve itself,, as for him turning off the cold water is to make the problem stand out more hot water vs cold water stop cold water it shows that the hot water is leaking past a valve
Yeah I think you might be correct. This video this really did not help me other than to give me some ideas of what my problem might be. It takes a long time for hot water to come out of the tap in the kitchen and bathroom faucets on the 1st floor - water heater is on the second floor. Once it does and it's shut off...it cools down real quick...and I mean in just a few minutes. All the hot water pipes are insulated in my crawl space but since this also happens in the summer too so it is not really and insulation issue. I was able to isolate all but one cross over valve which is the one in my first floor shower. So I suspect that is the culprit. I am going to go into the crawl space tomorrow and see if I can isolate it too, but if not, I might add a valve so I can isolate it. Not an easy fixture to change, but it beats the cost of a recirculating pump I was planning to purchase that probably would have been a waste of money. BTW I have a 5.8L Hemi 300 C and love that power brother.
I live in a mobile home park and I' am having this same problem, although the water is warm and Thankfully it doesn't get hotter. But, also everyone in the whole park about 150 residents are experiencing the same thing, its not just me. Could you Please advise on something I could do? I would greatly appreciate it very much.
@@Gulldccm Had the same problem, which was getting worse over the last couple of years. Replaced the cartridge this weekend and everything is back to normal. Wish I had done this a long time ago. Can't even imagine how much water I wasted waiting for it to get hot multiple times a day.
Problem is in the cheap tub shower mixer valve. Don't use cheap mix it brand rough in valves

Thus video did absolutely NOTHING to tell us how to fix it.
Technician never explains what is causing this problem.

Is this an expensive fix?
I have the problem in my house hot water goes on the cold water and on my washer is that shower valve bad? Thank you.
Cold water cross connection usually found in the shower valves risers.

Hello there, I've got the same problem but the other way round: cold water comingo out from the hot tap.
What did you do to fix it?
Thanks.
rodrigoccsp . The cross-over leak was caused by a faulty thermostatic shower mixer. I replaced the cartridge and all back to normal.
