Excellent doco giving the rugby-loving public behind-the-scenes insight to this defining time in rugby union history. Makes logical sense to go where the money is (not just talk, but actual funding that is readily available). Kudos to those who got the ball rolling, though (WRC). Have to laugh at Fitzsimons being so anti-Pienaar and his comments in general. Used to like Kearns, but since retirement, his TV rugby commentary is so obviously biased which is unprofessional (mute button is really handy). Brilliant that Pienaar could still laugh about it all... even being kicked in the head by NZ players in a scrum and being used as a scapegoat by some southern hemisphere rugby influencers. Pienaar is an astute businessman with integrity and total professionalism which is what made him an excellent captain and leader who commanded respect from his team and his President, the late Nelson Mandela.

Stealing Rugby documents an extraordinary moment when sport and business collided. It gives a unique insight into the turbulent events that helped make rugby the game it is today. In mid-1995, a group of Sydney businessmen backed by Kerry Packer made an audacious attempt to steal the amateur game of rugby union and transform it into a lucrative, world-wide professional sports franchise.

RUGBY IS A GAME THAT TEACHES
    * In life u cant always choose
    * They put u in a situation in wich u are always down, and u get hurt badly
    * When u get down, u must go up quicker than ever... or somebody get hurts
    * In life u cant always be beaten
    * So u need a team/friends
    * The team is composed of people that look ur back
    * A wall cant be put down, but a force like a wave can break the wall in a long period of time
    * This is in tipical situation of constriction
    AND MONEY
    * Are good to improve the business with a strategy
    * When the game is not changing, money are indispensable... cuz the name of a player can improve the game
    * So salary grows up to the top= it is the end of the game
    * A star born when the team/the game is a shxx= he wants to go to another team and/or improve his salary= 50% of games certain defeat

Brilliant documentary...I was 15 when the Springboks won the first world cup. Louis is projected in this documentary though in a favourable light ...he was despised by most South African fans.... Perhaps not bulls supporters but most of us. This gives a bit more understanding of the division between South Africa, NZ and Australia on a rugby board level. Hence why we had to go to Europe ... Southern hemisphere rugby as lesser as a result but northern hemisphere is definitely improving. All in all.... Probably better for the game as rugby can't grow more in the southern hemisphere compared to the north.

Totally agree.i was 14 at the 1995 World Cup but later it was revealed how Louis Luyt got his "revenge" by getting rid of Pienaar and coach Kitch Christie(whom he felt betrayed him).it lead to South Africa embracing the professional era so slowly and a first ever test series defeat against NZ at home in 1996

Of course it can´t, if all the time there are shady plans between AU, NZ and SA, to make things difficult for Argentina, like they did with Super Rugby, and are very likely to do with the RC.....

as the saying goes at the time.
what's the difference between a Rugby Union player & a Rugby League player?
A Rugby League player pays tax.

A place for all vintage and classic rugby games and video content. A time when scrums were often deemed to be a "Den of Iniquity" and you could staircase, ruck and knock your opposite number into next year!
