1. Keep doing what you're doing. The comedic irony, the 80's workplace safety music, the overuse of visual effects, and you're overall style of talking is all so unique and entertaining. This brand you're promoting for yourself is awesome.
2. Draw more. I love hearing what you have to say, but I love your artwork so much too that I wish a larger percent of the video was filled with it. Maybe make some more drawing focused videos, but not necessarily tutorials. Or at least not tutorials on the basics because there's thousands of other resources for that already.
3. Mix in some longer videos. Maybe stream yourself sketching characters for 2 hours and post that here. I would love to see real-time examples of the ideas and methodologies you use and promote.

I'm not really an animator, but I love to draw and paint. These videos make me really want to dive in
The big take away, " You need to meet/know people" is so right. Unless you're a superstar bad ass artist, the best way to get a job or an assignment is by who you know- your network. And of course, a ton of hard work.
But it's kinda a horrifying concept because how exactly does one do that?

@@yyg4632 I'm not experienced yet with studios yet, but all my commissions went through mutual friends IRL (mostly). Plus, you can have a face-to-face with some editors on events. Sometimes they don't hire you but they give you an email/contact of another person/editorial and you start the process again.
Ethan, I just gotta say this: the content you're putting out here is great. It's helpful, it's meaningful, it's true. The music however...it just wouldn't be the same without it. Don't even get me started on those wacky jackets.. I'm looking forward to meeting you someday.
5:38 I am from poland - And I am basically forced to self-learn and animate alone. There are no people to meet in industry, because the industry simply doesn't exist.
The reason? In poland, the animation industry Basically doesn't exist (Except Platige image) - Most animators are after either the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine arts in Cracow or Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Lodz
And maaaaaan, they fart higher than their ass. Both Professors and students have that "People Republic of poland" Mentality - They think that american or japanese or any animation other than polish or russian is shit:
Disney (Older movies, like, idk, Robin hood or The great mouse detective, OR EVEN Lion king ) - for them it's "Ugly shit
Dreamworks - "Uh,oh, Kung fu panda is ugly shit, because it's american"
Laika - They don't know that this studio even exist, but it is american, so for them, is "Ugly, Simple bullshit"
Sony pictures - yes, they are so pretentious and pseudoartistic, that for them "Spiderman: Into a Spiderverse" is also "Visual shit for these stupid Americans that can't understand a "real Art" ".
Studio Ghibli - For them it is "uh, oh, this "ANIMEH STYLE!!!DUUR HURR"
One of the professors, who was visiting my high school, said that straight in my face, after i showed him a stills from "howl's moving castle", "Spirited away" and "Kiki's Delivery service": "I don't know about this entire "Hayao Miyazaki". He has no talent whatsoever"
There is a facebook group called "Non-Profit Film Work" (In polish: Praca w filmie Non-profit) - It is basically a group for beginners that want to help each other and enter the industry, find some people...You could find there a bunch of people that could help you create a movie, that have Equipment, studios etc.
Except if you are an animator - Then they are like "Fuck you, this is too much work, good luck, i GTFO". People were searching for the help in animation - Every time the discussion was like - Good luck, but We will not help you"

Eh dzięki za ten komentarz. Miałam nadzieję że chociaż w łodzi podchodzą do tego ambitniej jednak w wychodzi na to że w Polsce nie ma perspektyw dla animatorów.
@@agnespodobinska6648 Ja miałem właśnie tak, że w liceum mieliśmy wizytę z ASP (krakowskiego bodajże) - A nawet kilka - Czasami byli to studenci, czasami byli to profesorowie z ASP - Za każdym razem ja i moi znajomi korzystaliśmy z okazji i pokazywaliśmy rysunki do oceny.
Ja może dopiero wtedy zaczynałem rysować i moje rysunki nie były jeszcze dopracowane...Ale moja koleżanka rysowała zarąbiście - Zarówno rysunki w stylu anime, jak i coś pomiędzy realizmem, a anime (Najbliższy styl, który przychodzi mi do głowy, to styl rysunków autorstwa WLOP) jak i realizm...
Co usłyszała zarówno od studenta, jak i potem profesora stamtąd?
Te same gadki:
"Ech, ten styl anime"
"Ech, ale to nierealistyczne"
"Może spróbuj realizm" (mimo, że takie rysunki też tam były)
Moi znajomi z kółka teatralnego też tam byli - oni z kolei robili humorystyczny komiks fantasy w stylu, nie wiem, np. Scota Pilgrima czy tam jakiegoś chibi.
I teraz, nie żartuję, usłyszeli od profesora i od studenta tekst, że "lepiej by to wyglądało , jakby zrobili w stylu "Tanga" rybczyńskiego"
To samo ja usłyszałem, jak poddałem swój pomysł na animację o kotach-kosmitach, w stylistyce anime - "Może zastanów się nad zrobieniem tego w stylu tanga rybczyńskiego"
Myślałem, że problem jest tylko lokalny, i że w innych miastach są lepsze szkoły...Dopóki nie opisałem tego, co wyżej, na grupie dla artystów na facebooku.
Od razu masa osób - zarówno licealistów zbliżających się do matury, jak i studentów na asp/filmówce, jak i jej absolwentów - Wszyscy opowiadali podobne historie, o tym, jak to przy okazji spotykali ludzi stamtąd, albo przechodzili/ przechodzą przez podobne rzeczy, gdy byli/są na studiach...Opowiadali o tym, jak to Profesorowie i Część studentów stoją chyba mentalnie w latach 70/80...
No ale co się dziwić, skoro polskie uczelnie w rankingach uczelni świata są grubo powyżej 300 miejsca.
@@agnespodobinska6648 Ja sam jestem po realizacji dźwięku, ale rysunku uczyłem się jako samouk - Zresztą na realizacji dźwięku chyba jest podobny typ ludzi - wywyższający się, robiący śmieszki, jak coś ci nie wyjdzie, i bardziej zakręcony i zapominalski, niż największy leń czy inny bumelant
Jest taka prowokacja "Studentka ASP przeprasza", ale jest tam jeden komentarz, ładnie podsumowujący naukę na ASP:
"Jako student Wrocławskiego ASP na wydziale grafiki niejednokrotnie ludziom odradzałem naukę na uczelni wyższej, bo nie jest do niczego potrzebna. Nie jest to problem jedynie malarstwa, a wielu kierunków, co dostrzega większość studentów. Ja już czas zmarnowałem, inni nie muszą - to jeden z tych powodów, dla których było warto, by przestrzegać. Uczelnia kształci wykładowców, a nie przyszłych pracowników. Całe szczęście to już koniec i po wszystkim zmierzam raczej w kierunku concept artu i modelowania 3D (do gier i innych pierdół), bo o wiele bardziej mnie to interesuje niż nieżyciowe filozofie, którymi próbuje się karmić studentów."
I to nie jest jedyny głos, bo na wielu grupach artystycznych np. na facebooku widziałem absolwentów ASP, którzy stwierdzali, że "żałują pójścia na tę uczelnię" i twierdzą, że już lepiej uczyć się i doskonalić samemu.
I love the way you deliver the advice, artists need some tough love to strengthen the natural squishiness of artistic soul. And your art style is so cool! The moment I found you I tough "this boy means business, I better listen."
Man You don't know how much you're helping me rn.. my relatives including my parents don't want me to be in this career.. but I'm gonna prove them wrong.. and ever since I've watched your videos and applying your tips, I've been improving a lot.
How are things going now?
For the polls, my only suggestion for improvement is that you give a verity of content. Tips, tricks and exercises for improving your art, discussing the fundamentals more(for beginners), and doing all the "big idea"/"major concept" talks would work best in my opinion. So don't just stick to one thing. (Also, I love watching you draw, so more of that too.) Or, just do whatever you feel most passionate about. This is your outlet after all. I'm just here for the ride. Thanks man.

i just went from making traditional drawings to using ps for digital art and it's just. so hard. i feel like i'm battling the program to get something that barely passes as a drawing, i don't know colors, i don't know lighting, shadows, anything. i feel anxious everytime i try to draw and i constantly compare myself to artists my age. i just wanted to vent.

Hello I love your videos but I have a few questions that would be awesome if you covered one day. The first one is you said you need perfect practice but what exactly should I be practicing Ik I need to improve on clothing the most and other specific things but what exactly are the essentials because when I study it feels like I’m hopping around too much with not much focus and reason for study what I’m studying if that makes sense. Next question is do you think art school is essential or necessary? Thank you for your videos they’re very helpful and motivating.
I'll make a video addressing some of these problems- thanks for pointing those out! a quick answer is if you're just starting out, clothes are the very last 1% of your drawing. the anatomy foundation is most important for sure. As for school- if you have the right classes, it can boost you years ahead. but these days all you really need is the internet and the ability to apply yourself. forreal

does anyone know a similar brush to the one he uses in all his vids? i know its no pressure pen type brush but i cant exactly get that same look he gets for his lines
I remember i used to be hella crazy about getting in the industry i wanted to be a storyboard artists and work on featured animated films ,or tv shows , but as I got old older I noticed i had a conflict with the current tv shows and the Disney culture that they’re trying to implement on every animated featured. The animation industry in the U.S lacks of deeper story telling and most of them, if not all, tend to have this childish structure on every animated film, and no wonder why nobody takes them seriously.
Im still trying to aim to be a storyboard artist but not for animated features for sure. They’re wack

hi there. Fundamentals are usually the same in all forms, so the quick thing is to learn
1. Perspective
2. Anatomy
3. Design
Perspective you can learn quite easily with drawing boxes. It is not the most interesting thing to do, but it definitely helps. Just get your boxes, set them up and copy them as if you'd copy a still life. Then move on. Fill a sketchbook with boxes. After you filled that sketchbook try to put stuff into boxes, cut them in half (visually), form shapes out of them and work from that.
For Anatomy... well... you just gotta study the human body, look for life drawing classes or if you don't have any nearby try to look at youtube life drawing stuff, like what new masters academy do.
For Design... Master Studies.
I think cubebrush also has a rather nice fundamentals-thing going on
