My name is Terry Kent and I am a General Aviation PPL private pilot operating out of Andrewsfield EGSL about 25 miles to the north east of London in the UK. Short Field is my channel focused on the lighter side of General Aviation including flight and airfield reviews, equipment unboxing and review plus all things private pilot related. I use various cameras to record my videos including GoPro and Insta 360 and stills and edit them in Adobe Premiere Pro, I am an animator as well and often use animations to describe situations more clearly I use Blender and Adobe After Effects for these. I always attempt to post my videos in the highest possible quality, normally 4k.
I fly a 2011 Pipersport two seat single engine aircraft that is also known as the PS28 or SportCruiser in the USA (America) it is known under the FAA as an LSA or Light Sport Aircraft and can be flown on a very basic license. In the UK it is a Part 21 airplane which requires a full licence but it's generally cheap to run, affordable maintenance and great value for money. It cruises at 100 to 105 knots and has superb short take off and landing or STOL capabilities. I visit farm strips, back country and short airfields, some of them dangerous and I try not to crash :-), as well as international airports and try to learn something new every time I fly.

I fly VFR and IFR as well as visual and instrument approaches.
While my videos may offer insights for pilots, it's essential to note that they are purely for entertainment. I am not a certified instructor, and viewers should not apply anything showcased in the videos to real-world aviation. Additionally, the status of airfields featured in my videos may have changed since filming, so it's crucial to refer to the latest information for accurate details in your region.
If you enjoyed the content, please consider giving it a 'thumbs up' and leaving a comment. I value your feedback and appreciate hearing what aspects you enjoyed or disliked. Feel free to share the video with others who might find it interesting, and if you haven't already, consider subscribing and enabling notifications to stay updated on future uploads.
If you are interested, I have hundreds of hours of light aircraft video content which is available to purchase as stock footage, please contact me via my email address in the ABOUT section of my channel for more information.
If you like my content you could buy me a coffee but no worries if you don't want too, I'm just chuffed that you are even interested in my videos, and if you ever see me at any airfields please come over and say 'Hi' and I'll probably buy you a coffee.

I have been a commercial pilot for over 40 years now, working for the moment I can retire(soon now) and spend the rest of my days flying from a grass strip with no schedules to keep and no deadlines to make. Thanks!
Sir this is an amazing comment. From one who earns their living flying it makes me so happy to hear that a simple aircraft, a grass strip and a blue sky with fluffy clouds and with nowhere to go sounds so appealing, I have to agree, this is what it's all about. Thank you Captain.
@@ShortField The career I have now, started on a grass strip back in 1970, when I experienced my first flight in an airplane. It was in a military surplus Stearman biplane, which was flown by a WWII veteran pilot. He owned a crop dusting service in our small town in the Great Plains region of North Texas, while I was just a kid who liked hanging around the airport. I still remember every second of that experience and it became the standard for what flying should be like. Ever since, I've been working towards the time when I can have the opportunity to repeat those experiences. Thanks again.👍
I too started out in an L-4 off grass back in 1968. It went a long way from there. I did all kinds of things with airplanes until I went on the line where I flew for 35 years. The last time I was in an airplane was the when I set the parking brake at the gate six years ago and retired with 32K+ in the log. I don’t miss it one bit, don’t know why, but I don’t. Guess I got it all out and am ready for other things now. Really nice video though, brings back memories; very well done 👍
@@williamhollis6578 I got my start only a few years after you. I received my first flight/ride in a Stearman, but the first airplane I later soloed was an old J-3 Cub. Learning the flying part wasn't difficult, but it took a while to become comfortable with hand-propping it. I'll soon be retiring myself, and I plan to never fly far away or much above pattern altitude again. Additionally, I also managed to locate that same old J-3 a few years ago, abandoned and worse for wear in the corner of a hanger. I bought it and I've just begun slowly restoring it, so my flying career can end right back where it all began. Good luck in your future non-flying endeavors!😃
When I first got my archer 22 yrs ago I looked for just about any strip to land and I did. Now that I’m older I throttled that down a bit
Great job capturing a flight. Too bad you can't video the feeling I get every time wheels leave my backyard grass strip.
Nice crips 4k. Fabric planes are strange though :)
This was such a special occasion and a memory i shall cherish forever .... you have given me a perspective of flying, that many people will not be able to see for themselves. Top Work as always
Beautiful. The romance of flying wonderfully captured. Well done.
My granddad many times had to drop down in the desert because struts or the airframe had developed tears ..He became an airframe engineer, all become of basic aviation
Even Leonardo got the bug. I love my flying disease. It obsesses me, takes all my time, keeps me poor and the only thing Id do differently if I had my life over, would be to learn to fly at an earlier age so I had the bug longer 😊 Great video thankyou
♥
Beautiful in every way. So well done. Every part of this speaks to a passion for aviation and cinematography. Brilliant. Thank you for sharing.
Wow thank you so much Captain, when you know, you know.
Thank you so much for sharing Terry! The Rans is such a beautiful little aircraft and this footage captures not just the beauty of that aircraft, but it also shows just how beautiful aviation can be. Excellent shots, Just stunning! 👍.
Amazing comment, thank you so much, really appreciated.
Capitulates?
Or captures?
Terry
A very emotional video, you have portrayed what flying light aircraft is all about in this green & pleasant land ,we live in.
Those that can fly, follow previous generations that only dreamed of being like a bird
Yes Mike I felt emotional when I was putting it together, it's such a basic feeling of freedom. Thank you sir.
@@ShortField It is something I always wanted for myself .As achild I went to work with my grand-dad on Saturdays who was working on airframes for the RAF in the 70's..I had the privilage in sitting in phamtoms, n playing in victors at the scrap yard ...but now cannot afford my plane , but enjoy your posts of enjoyment
Little aircraft built togetether with string n silk, put an engine on it n I can fly to the stars. As a pilot we perchance life& family every time we pull that stick back n be airborn. But we we feel a freedom that most humans will never percieve
@@ShortField Enjoyed watching your flight today on flight radar..not quite so high today, but weather was glorious for you Kent & Anglia flight
For those of us on more average incomes - try Radio Control flying with/without an onboard micro camera.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!! It truly says, "Come join me." or "See what you could do with a few spare minutes." Damned inspiring!
The joy of flying!!!!
Well done Terry . . . brought back fond memories of flying my J3 across the US . . . in 1963 . . . Bob
Wow thanks Bob. The Rans was a little on the orange side to be a yellow Cub but against the lush green grass and the blue sky she could have almost been one. You are awesome and your kind comment means so much sir. Thank you. Terry
The video quality is amazing! What beautiful shots
Thanks Cae see you on Friday.
The essence of the passion of flight - set to music.
Gorgeous work. I have been landing on asphalt in LA County for 20 years, flying long cross -countries to find a grass strip, which you apparently have in excess.. Perfect score as well.
Lovely! Cracking drone footage too - nicely flown by the drone operator 👍
Charming, just charming 💜✌️👍😊
Absolutely gorgeous! Nice work Terry.
Thank you sir.
Very smooth and cinematic, well done sir.
What a lovely video❤ It's great to see one of the many WW2 airfields still being used for their original purpose, albeit now peacefully, and with a lot of the original infrastructure slowly returning to nature and/or farming purposes. I always enjoy your videos along with the Flying Reporter.....keep up the good work😊
Amazing, thank you for your wonderfully kind comment Georgina.
Not much I can say other than......BRILLIANT!
Thank you Paul.
Amazing .. Yes worth sharing 😂😂
Good talk at Private Flyer South this morning. 👍
Nice, the drone did well not to get blown away! The joy of flying captured perfectly. 👍
Beautiful, thank you. As a former pilot I only can confirm the quotation from Leonardo da Vinci 😊
When you know, you know. Thank you sir.
Really well done. Takes me back - grass strips and looking back at the tow aircraft back on the strip after the aero tow in the glider.
brilliant!
Beautifully done Terry and well matched to the music! Expect Chris is well chuffed with the results. You know I still use your clips in some of mine. 😊
I'm over the moon, Terry did a great job ... hope to ctach up with you soon Tim.
Beautiful 😊
Absolutley Farken beautiful! Thanks Terry, enjoyed that!
Wow thanks so much.
Our dear old Nut'd looking green and luscious.
Lovely 😍
Very good of you to video your friend in his aircraft. Elegant flight. Cheers!
That was awesome! Beautiful backdrop too. Can’t wait to go flying tomorrow now!
Enchantingly beautiful.
Very cool.
Fab intro. Looking forward to hopefully seeing you at Private Flyers!
Actually your epigram at the end reminds that DaVinci was stimulated by observing birds in flight...as we can still do that today. They are the first fliers of awe.
Watching this video on Memorial Day 2024, I find myself thinking of Lancasters, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Typhoons, Mosquitos, etc. taking off from fields like this, and the far too many young men who never came back. Dang, getting a little misty. Thanks for a beautiful video. Cheers from Arizona!
Very nice. Always valuable to revisit the fundamentals.
Class 👌
Well done!
Thank you.
Beautifully shot ❤
Nuthampstead
love the shot at 2:59!
My kind of malarky, Terry!
Beautiful.
Thanks.
Cheers Phil
Beautifully done Terry! The video and atmospheric music shows exactly what it's all about... in a capsulating short video typical of your passion and talent.. Well done, it's great see your natural skills being appreciated 👌🏻
Kev you are what makes this all worth it. Always encouraging and always kind. Thank you sir.
@@ShortField 👌🏻
Beautifully done 🤩 & so lovely to see Cris taking to the air 😎
Cheers Geoff.
Sweet little bird !! 👍😁❤️❗️
That's what I call real flying. Grass strip, taildragger. The only aspect not represented is a biplane. Thanks to the algorithm for dropping your video into my feed. 🛩👍
Very nice indeed. No explanation needed. :)
Thanks Terry, you've captured the joy that I feel every day I get to fly 😁
We should never take this for granted. Thank you Matt
absolutely brilliant 🤩
For those who have never flown a tail dragger I suggest a few lessons in a glider first. I guarentee it will improve your landing skills. Remember in a glider a go-around is not an option.
WOW! Beautifully done sir. Appreciate you sharing this footage, absolutely stunning!!
God Bless!
Thank you for your wonderful encouraging comment, I love this community.
Brilliant
Beautiful video, the daVinci quote is actually John Secondari, for a documentary, 1965.
Beautifully shot Terry... thanks for sharing. Enjoy the season!
Amazing thank you and maybe see you around?
@@ShortField once our aircraft is back out of its avionics refit I certainly plan to!
Full Circle.
53 years ago soloed a J-3 Cub. USAF F-4E & A-10, American Airlines Captain Boring 767, Retired built Rans S-21 and flying it. Best memory ever Solo J-3.
Beautiful ❤️
Beautiful and well done. I'm no longer able to fly my self so I especially enjoyed the flying ,photography and music background Thank you
Great video….very cool. Saw your aircraft at the weekend in Andrewsfield and Chris’s the same day at Oakley.
Hey Terry great shots of Kilo Mike she such a beautiful bird Chris has, before I forget that music u picked fits very well 😊 from one of Chris friends keep up the great work 😃💪
Thanks for commenting, Chris is a great pilot and you're right KM is lovely. Thanks for the kind comment as well sir.
@@ShortField your welcome mate 😀, Chris sure is a awesome pilot just like yourself 😁 keep up the awesome work bud
Thanks🎉❤
Beautifully done, sir!
Great job and beautifully done! Bravo!
Wonderful!
What a great video grass field stick and rudder seat of your flying nothing like it.
We are a strange lot, we love our gadgets and boys toys but there's nothing like a basic aircraft and a grass field on a beautiful day. Thank you.
Oh to break the surely bonds of earth !!!!!
A great little video Terry.
very pretty
Excellent drone flying and videography - well done :)
Thank you for watching and the lovely comment. Terry
Thanks Terry. I join with the other contributors - just lovely. BTW, where is the strip? Fly safe. Greg.
Nuthampstead, located between Stansted and Luton 😃
@@crisjpalmer
Thanks Chris. Unfortunately not much chance of getting there soon but I continue to work on it.
Meantime, I look forward to more of your videos. Keep well and fly safe. Greg
Great little vid
So beautiful… thanks!
Excellent!
Stunning. It looks like a theme from MS Flight Simulator. Yesterday I had the pleasure of sitting in TECAM 2010. I fell in love with GA..
Tecnams are also LSA aircraft
Great little video, nicely put together thanks! Hopefully it will inspire others to join us in sport and recreational aviation. Blue skies!
Amazing! This is why we do this! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Beautiful.
Well done
Wow! I wish I had a 360 degree Panorama shot of that flying field. The luscious green grass and beautiful country or quite a sight.
I'd love to add it to Phoenix RC flight simulator as a flying site.
Thanks for sharing!
It is my fav farm strip, they do have a model RC club that fly's from there.
Summer Colours. 👌
No cranked up saturation either, pretty much straight off the SD card.
Great video thank you for posting, I owned a SA Bulldog IO 360 for many years. Now have a near completed Rotax powered K7 taildrager. Seat of the pants flying that costs a fraction of the GA price and it gets into any bush strips, paddocks and beaches.
Ah quality :)
WOW! Great video
Helped Maurice to build it early 1990 at Routar.
Beautiful footage I really enjoyed this 👍🏻 my aircraft is in annual inspection for the past 3 weeks and I really miss the sky this gave me some really great inspiration cheers
I hate being without my aircraft so I know how you feel. Really appreciate the kind comment.
Beautiful
Nice!
Beautiful video, nice music.
I enjoy your work.
Means so much thank you sir.
I need to get back flying
Lovely
I just love your channel !
Thank you so much.
Terry, I’m going to be at North Weald on Saturday May 25th for my girlfriend’s first flying lesson. Hope to see CZ, Guppy, or maybe even yourself there!
Oh no I'm up in Wales on holiday, that's such a shame, maybe next time or how about over at Andrewsfield?
@@ShortField Ahh that’s funny, as I’m actually from south Wales haha. No worries at all, we’ll certainly be back at North Weald a few times over the summer, and maybe even Andrewsfield 👍 have an excellent holiday, hope the Welsh weather treats you well!
Really sorry not met uo with you at Wycombe...NHS work provailed, but on the good side I am having my 2nd flight next monday
