    Great tip! Another thing I do that smashes the urge almost immediately is to visualize EXACTLY WHERE I’m going to store that item. So if it’s shoes, I picture my shoe rack with all the shoes already on it and realize there’s not room for another pair. If it’s wall decor, I visualize which room and which wall. If it’s a kitchen gadget, I picture the exact cabinet and the space it will take up. If I don’t have the cabinet space then obviously I can’t buy the item. If it’s a cute storage tote, I must know exactly what items will be placed in the tote and where it will be stored. Every purchase must have an assigned home before it even leaves the store!

      That’s amazing! I think this also goes hand-in-hand with the advice to put empty hangers away (not let them hanging in the closet so it would enforce buying) so when you visualize where to put a clothing item, you most likely don’t think „oh I still have hangers in the attic to put in my closet“ when thinking about buying that clothing item. I hope my point came across fine, English is not my first language :)

    Thank you for this. I found it very helpful. I acquired loads of stuff when I was unhappy in my marriage. Now, over 10 years later, I’m still decluttering it all! And thinking about all the money I spent. But I guess it was a coping strategy for that time.

    I love this idea. So often we buy something then later decide to get rid of it but can never recoup the money. Seeing how much can be saved by not buying items is really motivating.

    I wish making the list could work for me but it actually increases my want for it. It’s like knowing the cookies are hidden deep in the kitchen cabinet. Must be out of my house to be out of my mind. The list is like an energy cord of my most wanted things just taunting me lol. Plus, when I fail and buy said thing on the list, the shame is way worse. Just like with sugar, I stop looking period. I removed all social media from my phone including Pinterest which was a sneaky trigger for me to want things. I guess I’m a cold turkey person vs gradual lessening

      @rachellbc 11 месяцев назад

      What if you write things down on a list of paper and throw it out? Then allow time to go by, and write a new list. Maybe if the same item shows up on the new list even after throwing the old list out, you could think about buying it.

  • @leek7987
    @leek7987 Год назад +6

    🎉lol, I saw on your list, a new hose for garden. I just bought a new hose yesterday. I will say that I had been looking at if for a while and I really did need it. Yesterday it was on sale for 10.00 off so I did buy it. I really like your idea. It is a way to visually see how much money we are capable of spending if we do not stay aware. Hope you are feeling okay.

  • @vb2219

    This works so well. I have a list of things I’m “Thinking of Buying.” Time is a powerful tool. Once the initial impulse passes, most things are not as attractive and are easy to pass up. And the things I do still buy are more likely to be good purchases.

      I compile "Wish Lists"- If items stay on the list after a good amount of time has passed, I will then go and purchase them

  • @williamclark1244
    @williamclark1244 Год назад +3

    This is a really good idea. I have a wish list but I don't put down the prices. If I see something that isn't on the list when browsing online I pause and think if I have something else like it. If I do have something I take that money and place it on debt instead of purchasing the item.

    this is good idea. I did it for a while and it was fun and encouraging. so often I make lists of things I want to do, like buy or declutter. then ofcourse I get really obsessive about the list until I can get or declutter all those things, which can induce restlessness. I feels good to make lists that are just celebratory !

    So, I think this could be helpful, BUT I am wondering.... Let's say I was really tempted to get a dress online. I decide against it and then write it down. Then I am tempted to make another clothing purchase but decide against it. I think if had I bought the dress, I might not even consider the second or or further purchases. So it really doesn't add up for ALL the things one is tempted to buy, right? Not trying to be argumentative, just curious if I am the only one who thinks like this. For example, for four days I have wanted to go buy an ice cream sundae. Does that mean I have saved $20? Or did I just save $5 once???? Help me here.

    • @beans4853
      @beans4853 Год назад +2

      I think every time you have the impulse in a new situation you can count it, if you're pining for the same dress again and again it's 1 save

    • @ElinLesser

      haha, no I get it! When you find the right bag you gotta go for it. I think you're talking about the Clare V bag -- I think it's the "Moyen Messenger" in black. Just to warn you -- it's pricey (definitely my most expensive piece), but I was able to get a promo code on sale or you might be able to find it secondhand on poshmark sometime! Hope that's helpful!
