That was a great old bike I bought my 1982 in 1985 off the showroom floor. For $1800.00 everyone who rode it was amazed at how smooth and solid it felt. It would do right at a 12 sec quarter mile. Lots of features on it they charge through the nose for a nowadays. Put almost 40,000 miles on that bike and only had it serviced three times. No problems at all.
@@initialdoosh5716 I just picked an 81 up for 200 in decent shape(needs gone through and TLC) and can get another exactly like it just as a basketcase of parts and a rolling frame for another 100...Got parts for days!! Might take the basketcase and do something similar to this since its already bobbed..
This thing is beautiful. I've got an XJ 1100 and a Midnight Special 750 in the shop. I knew I wanted a bobber, I think I've found my inspiration. With a kick stand :)
Bike looks and sounds great! Only thing I don’t agree with is the 1950s nurses cap on the front for the fairing and the tank. Other than that, this is pretty great.
With that thick seat and no shock absorbers whatsoever one cane only hope you'l never encounter a pothole/rough surface with that thing! Otherwise - clean look, engine sounds incredible
YOU TOOK A MOTORCYCLE THATS NOT POPULAR, AND PUT SOME KOOL IN IT WITH A K! IT HAS A MEAN STANCE TO IT, AND I LIKE A BIKE YOU CAN SIT DOWN INTO, LIKE THE BIKE EMBRACES YOU LIKE A RECLINER IN YOUR HOME. YOU GAVE THIS YAMAHA SOME SOUL. NICE JOB, I KNOW THIS CLIP IS OLD, BUT I HAD TO COMMENT.
"BEST" Looking xj Bobber on the internet,,Prob in the Whole world,,,Beautiful Job!!!....Did that start of as a virago? or seca or Maxim ?? Dam Thats just a Beautiful Bike .....
I have the same model and I'm trying to get this look. Currently it's setup as a cafe racer, would like to know some info on how your system and suspension is setup. Thank you.
@Steven Urbanski I would assume just make a small account on the XJ forum and then just try and PM him and see what he can do. I haven't gotten to that point yet on my build so I haven't tried to contact him yet...
very nice build! (tips hat)... I just bought a 1980 XJ650 today... looking to bob it out too in the near future, would appreciate some help from ya. Do you have a build thread by any chance? Also, what size are those tires? I'm trying to figure out what the widest tires I could fit in the back, as it seems the shaft will cause some limitations... thanks in advance for your help
Where can I get that light faring? I have my fathers 81 650 midnight maxim. Just restored it back to its black and gold glory, but she's dated by her bars, and seat. Like to change those elements and she will be on point in modern era

Bike looks and sounds great! Only thing I don’t agree with is the 1950s nurses cap on the front for the fairing and the tank. Other than that, this is pretty great.
I'm going to view an XJ650 this evening on the strength of this vid alone. I'm broke so this will mean more credit. I hope you're proud! :)

gas tank looks sweet with the lines of that bike
One of Few Bobbers that look good.
The drive shaft is on like a U-joint, so you lower the rear by welding the new hardtail framework in place.
'82 XJ650 Maxim build, start up,
A build video for this would have been awsome... oh well :(
Mop
