  • Hey guys! I recently outfitted my Tama Starclassic Bubinga kit with Remo Silentstroke Drumheads and Zildjian L80 Low Volume Cymbals for late night filming and practicing! Being a night owl, this kit is a game changer for me plus anyone looking for a low volume solution for practice without getting an electronic drum kit!

    One thing to note is that it's so quiet, you can hear my feet hitting the pedals! :)

    I can usually hear my neighbours drum kit from a mile away and the noise made me not want to learn for fear of annoying everyone, this is an incredible solution.

    Definitely worth going for. Thanks for the review! I have been thinking about getting these for a while now, but I'm convinced.

    I wish I had this when I was still drumming haha, always a lot of visitors for business in our home so I could rarely play if I didn't want to disturb the people or neighbourhood at night, sounds cool to play while listening to a track you are playing!

    Quiet drums sounds like an oxymoron, but it's actually really cool

    Hey mate! I Also got myself the Silentstrokes and the L80 Cymbald for my kit, but i cant hear the typical snare sound at all. It just sounds like a tom. Do you have any tips for tuning with the Silentstrokes?

    I assume we don't need to put a pillow in the bassdrum to change the sound with the remo silent strokes right?

  • @richardmmackay
    @richardmmackay 7 лет назад +10

    If you put a patch over where your beater hits the head it takes a lot of that bounteousness away. We have a kit at the shop that has all mesh heads and putting a moleskin patch on all of them made them feel like normal heads again and they were still just as quiet. Just do it underneath the head. Hopefully it works as well for your kit as it did for ours! :)

    • @LittleVMills

      Cool! I'll give that a shot!

      Richard MacKay i was giving that a thought. so i built a 8x20 bass drum just to keep a silent stroke on it. and it sounds bouingy and high pitch. so the patch will actually take care of them issues and, you know, make it sound loke a bass drum?

    I have the Silent Stroke on my 14" Tama snare and i've found no matter how I tune it - it's hard to roll on it. How are you tuning your snare ?

    Adding tape to the heads to improve the tone.

    one thing that intrigues me is how different does it feel to play drums compared to playing guitar ... or bassguitar

  • @h3lio5

    I went with this combo as well, in my band we also use load boxes on the amps... Kind of funny for a prog metal band to top out at 80db lol

    Do you use any dampening for your snare? It sounds great ! Mine has a weird type of echo. It's not that bad but still obnoxious and I wish it could sound like your snare.

    we need heads that are a bit louder and we really need to improve on that cymbal solution...the cymbals should be designed for more musicality...and for smaller rooms. This could likely mean smaller cymbals...which sound better in smaller rooms.

    How much do all the parts cost together?

    • @ejj9956
      @ejj9956 5 лет назад

      Anyoru if you want the 3 pack of cymbals hi hat crash and bigger crash (ride) and a set of the mesh heads for a 5 piece kit they sell a pack for 349.99 at most guitar and drum stores and online. If you just need the heads it’s around 75 and around 300 for the cymbals

    I recomend you to use Drum-Tec Real Feel Mesh heads, they are a bit more noisy but the rebound will be notably down

    You can't play these at 3am unless you have a sound proof room in the west wing of your mansion. This will disturb non-drummers. I can't even play a practice pad without someone bitching. The vibrations of the bass drum alone is going to piss people off. You talk about it as if it's the quietest thing in the world.
