  • In this video I'll show you how you can fix you broken vent controls.
As the HVAC system ages, some of the tubing and controls may degrade over time. In my car, the dial to turn the HVAC on/off did not work appropriately because the air duct behind it had to much play. All I had to do was secure it to the dash and problem solve.

I just now did this to both sides of my 2005 E320 CDI. Worked like a charm! Thank you!

I have the same exact problem in my drivers side vent. Will try your fix when weather gets a little warmer..

Yea I had to do the same thing on the driver side! It was driving me nuts because it would retract every time I go to dial the vent open/close.

Great work! Quick question before I do this myself (both sides...ugh). What length screw did you use? Looks like maybe 2.5". I want to make sure that it's long enough to reach the vent tubing properly without going too far (and potentially screwing into something that perhaps shouldn't be).
Also, is it still holding up OK? Thanks a million! This has been driving me batshit!

It's working great! I don't remember but you don't need anything super long, 1.5 or 2 inches should do but you want to make sure it's coarse thread, it will catch and hold the vent tubing much easier. You won't damage anything if you use a longer screw because the hvac tube behind the vent is about 3.5 inches wide.

@@thecarchak Awesome! Thank you, sir! Good to know about the width of the hvac tubing, lots of room for "error" in screw length!
Another question, regarding the driver's side (since you did it, also). Does the pilot hole/screw go in generally the same "location" as the passenger side?

Yes it does. Good luck with your fix and let us know how you make out
