  • Wow! These cities are totally awesome for you to consider as your new home!
    New York. If you’re not from here, when you think of the Empire State, I’m sure you think of New York City, the Statue of Liberty, maybe the Yankees and probably pizza. And, while living in New York City is a dream for those who love live entertainment, art, culture, crowded spaces, crime and a high cost of living, there’s more to New York than just the five boroughs. It’s a large state with a rich history and it’s a great place to call home. Sometimes. I mean, people say “I love NY” all the time for a reason, right?
    But, as always, some cities are better than others - and today we’re talking about the ten BEST places to live in the Empire State.
    To measure the best cities to live in New York, we have to use two things - data and opinion. We’ve looked at a bunch of data, you know - crime, poverty, the quality of schools and home prices. Plus, we took into account YOUR opinion - that’s right - you New Yorkers have a lot to say about which places in your city are great and which are not so great. Let’s get started.

    The problem I have with this list is that I have lived on long island my whole life where 95 percent of this list is. Alot of these towns are highly highly congested and the traffic is horrible. Property is tiny and property taxes and prices of homes are very overpriced for what you get. There are a lot of homes on eastern long island or upstate that would have been better choices as far as income and space.

Went to the assessor's office (we went to high school together), she showed me the complete breakdown, line item by item of the reason it was so much. I left her office and went straight to the realtor's office and listed it for sale. She stopped in on her way home from work when she saw the for-sale sign in the yard. Moved to Nevada.

    Hey Nick, I gotta say, Interesting video. As a lifelong NYC resident, Ive been to ALL of the places you’ve put on your list! I actually live in Queens Village just outside of Floral Park (shown in 10:20). While I agree that there are lots of places in Nassau County that are really nice, you don’t accurately portray the best of New York. There’s tons of places in nearby Suffolk County Long Island (like Brookhaven, Huntington, Patchogue, Southampton) that are really nice as well. There are also beautiful spots in Westchester, Ulster, Orange and Broome Counties in Upstate New York. I felt that this video doesn’t really show the grandeur of my state - despite all its flaws. This video could’ve been better suited as a “Top 10 places of Nassau County Long Island” video.
    I’d be happy to talk more with you more about additional areas you can look at for future videos about New York State. Plus, I also have some awesome footage not only of all the 10 places you’ve described here in this video, But Also I have footage places in Suffolk County, Westchester, Broome, Ulster Counties and beyond.

    With the exception of a few places, most of Long Island is a great place to live, it’s just crazy expensive, so those 6 figure salaries don’t stretch as far as you think they would. The property taxes are the biggest issue. Figure 10K to 15K a year in property taxes on the average home. (Those million dollars homes have property taxes of 30K+) The schools are very good for the most part, and they better be, considering the property taxes. As far as young people having something to do, it’s not even an issue. If there’s not much going on in your town, it’s only a 10 minute ride to get to someplace where there is something going on.

      It is nice there. My sister went to school at Stonybrook. I enjoyed visiting her at school.
      Problem is long island is an island. There is essentially only one way in and out, the traffic wall of NYC. Even a couple bridges to Connecticut wouldn't solve the problem. I'd recommend the Hudson valley before I'd recommend long island, better access to the rest of the continent.

    • @denisechristiansen4633
      @denisechristiansen4633 2 года назад +1

      @@peterbelanger4094 Trying to get past NYC isn’t fun, you have to time the traffic when leaving the state, but people are used to it, or at least resigned to it. My mother in her 70s used to make a trip to New Jersey a few times a year on her own just fine. Personally, I refuse to drive in the city. It’s a very aggressive type of driving, as ‘in kill or be killed’ lol The Hudson Valley is beautiful but the problem is that many people who live in the tri-state area commute to the city for work as the pay is much better. The city is more easily accessible from the island. I believe you have only one train line along the Hudson, whereas Long Island has 3 which are very easy to get to from whichever town you live in. Also, if you’re a beach lover, it’s a great place in the summer. I admit that hurricane season is not fun, although we don’t get hit as bad a other coastal cities down south. However, because of the coastal winds, we don’t get the more extreme weather, like heavy snowstorms, that they do in the Hudson Valley.

    Nick, did you know that a long time ago, they were actually considering building a bridge connecting Orient Point on Long Island with Watch Hill, Rhode Island? The plans fell through, though, as it would have been costly, and both New York and Rhode Island ultimately lost interest in it. Think of it this way, though: if such a bridge had been built, then would the communities of Nassau County, New York still be so desirable? I think the reason all of these rich people want to live in Nassau County may be that they figure nobody wants to deal with the NYC traffic mess in order to get to them--and dealing with the NYC traffic mess, by road/land, is the ONLY way to get to them. It's like NYC acts as a buffer for them from everybody else. NYC would no longer have been a buffer for them if that bridge to Rhode Island had been built. So probably the rich people of Nassau County paid the New York State government to abandon such plans, so that they could continue living in their own little bubble. As for their getting into the city when they need to, they have the Long Island Railroad, so they themselves don't need to deal with the traffic. And since Nassau County is at the end of Long Island near NYC, they don't even need to go very far on the train to get to NYC, too. Seems ideal all the way around. As to why Rye is so nice, maybe it's because it borders Greenwich, Connecticut? I mean, the people in Greenwich are certainly loaded. I guess they figure they can buddy-up. Of course, one perk that Rye has going for it that Greenwich doesn't is the Playland Amusement Park.

    Unfortunately Nick low balled all the home prices for these areas. My daughter and son-in-law bought a small home last year in Williston Park and it costs $650,000. I have family in East Hills, Sands Point and the homes in their area go for 1.5 M and up. I live in a nice part of Queens in an attached colonial home and the property assessment for my home is $850,000. I get phone calls from realtors all the time looking for homes to buy. The homes don't stay on the market long. It is very difficult for young people starting out to own a home in any good area of N.Y. and they need to make 6 figures for sure. That's because property taxes in Nassau County are astronomical!!!
