  • I've been using the Boss Elite BE10ACP for almost a month now. Overall, I like the head unit a lot, but there are definitely some things I would change. For the price, I don't think you can find a better unit with the same sized screen (yet). See pinned comment below information and updates.

UPDATE - Hey y'all, I will not be answering any more questions on this video. This comment has some more information and answers to FAQs.
This unit should fit in almost any car. Check for your specific car on Crutchfield or some other website.
    - Dimensions of the unit are 10" x 6.5"
    - Here are some photos showing the dimensions: imgur.com/a/lno5a1A
    - And here are some photos looking at the screen from the side so you can get an idea of how much space is between the dash and the screen. The screen is maxed out all the way up in one photo and all the way down in the other: imgur.com/a/wjqosPP
    - Apparently this unit now comes with a better system to remove the screen
    - If you have issues with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connecting, try swapping the USB cable
    - Android Auto (and I assume Apple CarPlay) are only able to connect via USB, not bluetooth
    - I used the Axxess ASWC-1 to integrate steering wheel controls. Works great
    - You can "turn off" the screen by touching the clock in the top right corner. This doesn't really turn off the screen though, it just displays the time and date on a black screen, which is still (IMHO) stupidly bright at night
    - You can access your radio favorites by clicking the blue circle in the center of the radio
    - The backup camera works immediately after you turn the car on, so you don't have to wait for the system to boot to use the backup camera

The reason it cuts the music off when your backing up with the backup camera on is because some people, not all people, can't walk and chew gum at the same time. So from a safety and liability point of view they want you to concentrate on backing up ONLY when your backing up. Listening to loud music while backing up can be viewed as a distraction. Boss is just covering their backside.

Both Boss and Planet Audio have a head unit now that has wireless Carplay and Android Auto, with a smaller screen that's flush if you're not into the floating display. They're both also the same resolution of 800x480 but since they have a 6.75" display rather than the 10.1" it looks much sharper.

Wish the screen was a bit higher res and better quality.. but from this, is to like the Alpine Halo 9 that is smaller, costs almost triple and is 95% the EXACT SAME THING, or the Halo 11 that is a bit larger and costs quadruple. And everything else in between like the Sonys and stuff are all way over a grand and again are almost the same thing. Best radio on the market for price!

@@robbyslacks what were your end results with the BU camera image. My OEM unit with its 6ish inch screen had a great image with the OEM camera. I am finding this BOSS unit produces a very grainy image. Far worst than I would expect with such a minimal display size increase.
I have to drive a good variety of new rental cars for my work. I have found several whose OEM system also reduces the volume and a few completely mute the music when backing up. Their manuals state it is for safety to better hear horns honking or people yelling while backing up.

You can disable the audio level drop while reversing with the camera by NOT connecting the reverse sensor wire. This will enable you to watch the rear of your vehicle while still enjoying the radio (I tested this on a bench setup before install!). Boss tech said I couldn't do it, but they were wrong!! I also installed a simple switch I will mount somewhere on the dash that will supply 12VDC to that reverse sensor wire in the radio harness so I can switch on the Parking Assist guides lines. Radio audio will also mute (almost anyway) while that switch is on. Mine is going into an RV, so watching that rear camera was a deal killer for me. Problem solved!!

Finally hubs just hooked up a wire to it that makes it constantly run but had to add a kill switch to it because leaving it on drained my battery and forced me to need a jump. Yep, that's exactly what I used. The installation is a little tougher than the radio itself because you have to make the connections directly to the wiring in your car rather than using a wiring adapter like with the radio. That being said, the instructions are straightforward, and if you're able to install the radio yourself then you should be able to install the ASWC-1 with no issues.

@RobbySlacks: Just re-read the comment below your review and noticed you have or had connection issues. If you're using some sort of extension dealio for your USB cables you may be screwed, (luckily I have an older civic with the amp pocket right below the hvac controls where the USB pigtails just barely reach) but going by what someone else was saying on a forum about a similar head unit, you want the cable as short as possible. I started witha 6' cable and was having issues with it disconnecting randomly so used a 3' cable and it was slightly better. Then found a really short cable (probably about a foot long) and have been using that for a few days without issues. Think the head unit doesn't put out enough power because it barely charges the phone and longer cable runs just makes it that much worse. Just some food for thought.

@@robbyslacks I'm going to eat my words now, later that day on my drive home it disconnected two times on me LOL. It was doing so good! Still seems like it's related to the cable length to some extent because when I initially had the 6' one attached it was disconnecting like clockwork after 45 min of driving. Wondering if you're even having the same issue as me though. You said that you're getting a device not recognized message. All mine does is disconnect from android auto so the headunit screen changes to handsfree screen (music, nav, phone call, or whatever keep on going, just via bluetooth). In order to get the android auto screen to re-appear I have to unplug the phone and plug it back in. Kind of more of just a nuisance than anything else. Really wonder if it's a phone thing or android auto or it is an issue with the head unit. Wonder if any apple users that have this could chime in about it. Wish the unit had a few more features like high pass filters (especially handy if you use your headunit to power some speakers while you power a sub with an amp). I have an amp feeding a sub and my front components and have the head unit powering the rear speakers so not too huge of a deal for me. But a lot of people just add a sub and having high pass filters allows you to get the most out of the headunit. And another feature missing that most modern head units have is time alignment for the speakers (set the distance of the speakers from your ears). Had the feature in the kenwood that I had for a couple of months before I even tried it out and it makes a noticeable improvement (fixes phasing issues the eq simply can't). Nothing about this Boss stereo screams cheap though. Nice clean, decently powered preamp outputs (the low end Kenwood I had really low output and also had alternator whine which I couldn't totally get rid of). Screen is nice and responsive too. Overall I'm fairly happy with it (especially what I paid LOL).

Plug your info into a site like crutchfield and see what's needed and recommended by them. A lot of times it makes more sense to buy car stereo gear from them simply because they include a lot of it for free and have decent tech support if you run into trouble (most modern vehicles are a hot mess with their radios and all the additional stuff they cram into them). Info-tainment systems they call them. For example, my wife has a 2019 golf wagon and the stereo has all the vehicle information available on there too. Plus information from the radio is displayed on the instrument cluster by the speedometer. Haven't looked into it, but I'm betting that it would take a lot of work to get an aftermarket radio into there and retaining all the features would be crazy difficult, time consuming, and expensive. Just some food for thought. If you have an older vehicle like me (08 civic), then you probably don't have to jump through too many hoops. If it was a 2018 civic, then I would expect to lose something like the side view cameras.

Then again, a lot of it was done out of necessity simply because they didn't have wiring harnesses available for everything. Now you can look up just about anything an the internet. But yeah, it does make a lot more sense to just buy the harness adapter to save a little time plus it makes removal of aftermarket radio, reinstallation of old much easier (sell or trade in vehicle).

I'm trying to figure out of this will fit the sloped dash in my ride...can you tell me what the distance is between the front of the receiver and the back of the screen? And, what are the dimensions of the screen?

Here are some photos of the screen from the side, maxed out in either direction. Hope that helps. imgur.com/a/wjqosPP
Not sure on the screen dimensions, I imagine you could find that on the product page.

I just bought this radio and have been trying to get it to work for the past 6 hours. Everything is hooked up and getting power but the radio will not turn on. Do you have any suggestions?

This happened to me. Finally hubs just hooked up a wire to it that makes it constantly run but had to add a kill switch to it because leaving it on drained my battery and forced me to need a jump. So now with the kill switch, after turning it back on to listen to it all of my fm presets are gone and I have to redo searching for stations EACH TIME. Not worth the headache and I’m taking back to Best Buy.

Where did you get the bracket to keep it still because on my chrysler its just hanging out of the center of where the radio goes

You should be able to find an adapter made specifically for your model of car that will accept aftermarket radios. I bought mine on Crutchfield, only had good experiences with them.

How’s the sound quality? Does steering wheel
    Controls work

    • @robbyslacks

I am by no means an audiophile but the sound quality sounds fine to me. I do have a pancake sub under my passenger seat so that definitely helps.
      The steering controls work fine.

@@robbyslacks What adapter did you use for the steering wheel controls. And I mentioned this in the other RUclips review comments sections for this stereo but you can have just the date and time display on the unit while listening to muisc; just click on it in the upper right corner. Also turning gamma down for the night dimmer settings helps a little bit but yeah, the screen is a bit too bright at night even at the lowest setting. Not a hell of a lot difference between level 1 and 10.

@@robbyslacks Thanks, just ordered that ASWC-1. Shame that you never need an adapter in this day and age; many aftermarket stereo makers have it where you hook up the steering controls, bring up a menu in the settings and assign different buttons on the steering wheel to different functions on the radio. Hard to believe, but my crap Kenwood DMX125BT had a SWC setup menu (and I assume JVC is similar since they're the same company now) and Sonys have options for it too. Even looked over owner's manuals for other Boss units (thought maybe something was missing from the documentation for this one) and other headunits of theirs have it, but not this one for some reason. Pioneer and Alpine still need SWC interfaces to work from what I can gather though. Will hook the adapter up this weekend and post back (one of the common complaints on Crutchfield was lack of steering wheel controls and wonder if they're selling people the wrong ones). Thanks again. And BTW, it was mentioned in the other youtube post but this thing is cheaper at Autozone (in store only) right now (about $100 cheaper than anywhere else). That's where I grabbed mine and I was even about to get them to apply 10% off too (since it wasn't showing up on their website I told them I wanted to order it online and use the 10% discount offered but I couldn't so they helped me out). And keep in mind that this only seems to be at larger Autozone locations. The smaller/newer stores don't seem to carry them (or much else for that matter LOL).
