Its not that alternate picking is a bad thing when playing Metallica, but it just takes away from the energy that you get from down-picking. Tonally, it sounds a little different. Great cover Bro!
Well, if you're Ola Englund, you could even down-pick the riff. Englund has got a very unorthodox pickup-holding technique that makes every upstroke sound like a downstroke.

I can't tune my guitar without a tuner lol! I suffered menieres disease for years which claimed my hearing totally in my left ear and about 30% of my hearing in the other making things,shall we say, difficult lol! HOWEVER,I love learning to play my guitar and I love metal so I'm doing what I can. I can't believe people would rip on a talented guy like this, dudes inspirational as fuck!!!!!

It sounds great, it's just different, no body gives a shit other than JH nerds.To me the Down Picking is in integral part of his sound, the percussive staccato attack almost raking sound is aggressive and abrasive.

Yeah buddy your right...but it has another sound then and it doesn't sound metallica style ;) and to be honest it is not so hard if you practice long enough haha...me for instance I practice it with a metronome and develop step by step more downpicking speed...now I can't even play it with alternate picking because I am now more used to downpicking haha

alternate picking or downstroke...ok my take here on the discusssion which i find very sad.this guy plays awesome...he covers a lot of different topics,he has an amazing feeling and virtuosity...great stuff.what i observed is that he is not born in the thrash universe...he sounds a bit mushy ,not robotic enough and it doesnt matter if you pick alternate or not he plays it a bit too loose and doesn't have the ultimate thrash metal settings on his amp.but....hey....he is better by far than all the haters here.his videos are cool..he adds so much of his own input into the songs great stuff makes me jealous every time i see it...hey continue what you do and hopefully enjoy it...
