The only tell-tales I use on the mainsail are on the leech, near the top. I have two and they indicate if I am oversheeted or not (easy to oversheet the main and not realize it). I reserve the steering/driving tell-tales for the jib, two sets, one about a quarter way from the bottom near the luff, and another set about one third from the top also near the luff (8 to 10 inches). I am confident I can stay in the "sweet spot" with just these few indicators.

I've picked up another H16 after 30 years. There's so much I didn't know back then that I want to know now. Great stuff

    Hello Josèphe,
I was at work during your live broadcast.
I'll have to wait a day to see your live show (Q+A), so that there's French subtitling.
Thank you so much for your explanations, I understood everything... 😂🤣 !!!
In French, we say: un petit dessin vaut mieux que un long discours (a little drawing is better than a long speech) 🤣😂.
I just need to replace my triple pulley, which is under the sail, with 2 double polished ones.
    That's great.
    I'm off to the shop...
An F18 is a lot more complicated than an HC16 ...
Thank you very much and look forward to your new video...😂😂
    slts
    David

Cheers David - I'm glad that my excellent drawing was good enough to make it clear.

Hi Joe, 2 questions for ya. I just picked up a used A -cat in Vermont and wondering the best way to step the mast so I don’t injure it. Any suggestions for some printed material for rigging? Im going to email Marstrom as well.
Secondly, is the a way to fix a tear on a hobiie trampoline that welds the vinyl perhaps. Maybe sewing a patch is best

For the A cat mast - what we do over here - point the boat into the wind . Put the mast pin in and lay the mast out forward from the boat. Tie on your forestays "extra long" (we use rope / dynema lashings for the last couple of feet of stay). Walk the mast up so that it goes past vertical and is supported by the forestays. Connect the other stays. Walk back to the front and shorten the lashings on the forestays to appropriate (like tight) length. Remove the mast pin. Its common to use the mast pin as the gooseneck moutn pin to make sure you dont leave it in. Apparently leaving it in is risky if your mast goes down and the pin is still in it can cause damage along the boat. Note that the mast has a decent surface area, so if its a windy day you may want a helper to connect the rear stays for you while you hold the mast in position. Taking it down is same process in reverse.

Oh yeah would normally set the boat so the dolley wheels are positioned under the forestays at the start of the process.

I couldn't say about the mast stepping as i'm not familiar with the A-Class mast step - I'd perhaps use the Hobie 14 reverse pile driver - assuming that the mast is very light.
For the trampoline repair - i'd sew a patch - 1 inch bigger on all sides of the tear.
