I would think it would work like the Galapagos Finches. Yknow, how there were finches with a variety of different beaks and those with a mutation survived. And since humans come in different DNA make up and variations too, I would think a cure would be someone, cause Rick's dead now, has a genetic mutation to where the infection everyone has including Walker bites, that one person is immune to it and the only way to pass that genetic mutation down would be by having kids. That's my scientific explanation for the "cure" for the show. The walkers won't go away, but surviving human offspring of the person who had the mutation, would be immune to Walker bites and turning. So walkers and humans would co-exist with each other.

I thought he was going to say that the herd just walks right through him, and Rick realizes that he has in fact died and turned. Then he slowly feels himself losing his mind, his memories. He vigorously shakes his head and yells as he tries so hard to hold onto Carl. We see a flash of dreamlike Carl images with sounds of the herd and Rick's agonizing struggle to remain human. Finally, we hear Carl say, with a sense of wonder, "Dad!" Whether it's a memory, a hallucination, or something else we aren't told. The struggle stops. The herd is mostly past. The last shot is a close up of Rick's facial expression of losing his humanity and truly dying. You would see it in his eyes.
YES! That would be the perfect ending. It would even cater to the theories that Rick is still in a coma because the viewer could interpret it as the "real Rick" dying. I really love the combination of Andy and your idea.

They should make a short film, "Down With The Walking Dead" an alternate ending, written and directed by the cast of the The Walking Dead, give them full creative control of everything and see what happens 😂

Rick is immune all this time and we don't know it. It is pretty good. Would be better if we find out and he eventually gets torn apart by walkers before he can let anyone know.
