    What a difference. New speaker sounds great and certainly tames the fizz.

      The 8" was just struggling, tamed the fizzyness and helped with the lows. Thanks as always Patrick.

    Changed the preamp on the dsl and the speaker now sounds huge. Love the thing.

    To add to your 8" speaker talk thingy.. cone cry is a thing that electronics will forever have difficultly emulating. Easy to do on an amp like this

    Think you could squeeze a 10" in the original enclosure?

    Tempting! How much to convert to 12"?

    Sounds richer and fuller, but does it worth the extra money for a 1 Watt amp just for aesthetic reasons?

      I know what you mean but the owner really loved the amp and wasn't that bothered about the budget. I think a big part of it was to increase the size of the speaker and while that was being done it may as well been covered in something out there.

    Can one stick a 10” speaker into the stock cabinet?...route the baffle?

      humbuzztube, no way. I have DSL1CR, I've looked inside, and there's maybe 3-4mm room above and under the 8" speaker. I'm thinking about this conversion DIY style, just not sure whether to go with 10" or 12".

      I have dsl1hr on a 2x 12 cab with a blue and greenback in it pushes them well no worries so I'd say 12

    What type of price would it cost to wrap a Marshall dsl1 head and mx112 cab in buttercream croc skin. Nothing else just a new cover. I know it all depends but let me know.

    I find the eight 15 speaker too bassy bordering on flabby. I wish the DSL1CR sounded tighter a bit and I do not hear any fizz on mine, this 8/15 speaker seems to tame a lot of highs. To my ears, the DSL20HR and the dsl1cr sound a lot more trebly through 70/80 , V type or even A Type Celestions. . It is hard to find an alternative to 16ohm 8 inch guitar speaker which is the main hindrance. The only replacement in 16ohm I found are some Weber speakers. I have been mulling the replacement for sometime and maybe the Weber Vintage 8F125-16 and possibly Weber British AlNiCo Blue Pup 8-15-16 Ohm could be a candidate. Anyone having an experience with running their dsl1cr through these ? I do not see much benefit in rehousing the amp sonically. But the Zilla cabs really turned this DsL1CR into something extra special.

    I want one bad. Also would love to upgrade a Fender Greta with the Marshall

      It was a cool little amp but definitely benefited from a 12" speaker. If you are looking for a quality small amp we have a Laney VC15 1x10 combo here and it sounds class, and they are cheap too.

    Curious about this since I wanna get a DSL1CR & hook it up with a 12" speaker... Did yinz have to get one at 16ohms to match the amp impedance or did a typical 8ohm do the trick?

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  4 года назад +1

      They sound cool with a 12, I think the stock speaker does restrict that amp. I can't remember what impedance went in there, I actually can't remember if the amp has an impedance selector or not but we normally just match up to what the manufacturer uses.

      The dsl1hr is 16ohm only so I'm guessin the combo would be the same

    Sound Great but i would buy external cab and plug

      It is true, there are some limitations in the combo format..... although as a cab maker I guess I'm biased ;)

    The 12” just sounds “right”. Got a way fatter bottom end and doesn’t have that piercing high end. But that’s just my personal preference.

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  4 года назад

      I think you got it bang on there, although the woods were better suited and the costruction was more rugged, the 12" neo creamback just allowed the lows in the amp come through more and tamed the top end. I think you got it spot on.
