come on Ola... get serious here. Try running two mxr dimes, one into a Klon and the other into a Fuzz Face from 1969 then run them into two Dumble amps in stereo. Just an educated guess but im pretty sure thats how Hendrix did it

Yeah, but don't forget to use 2 Boss EQ's at both ends of the chain with the deepest mid scoop possible! You gotta eliminate all the mids to get that sweet Dimebag tone Jimi was so inspired by in the 80's!
@@tommyvercetti5802 Then use a rack para eq to dial back in some of the upper mids. That's what Dime did. Also, you'll need a rosewood fretboard on the guitar.

I bet you could use it in a certain situation. Like maybe infront of a cranked Marshall for death metal or something. but for the use its marketed for its crap.
Crimson Ghost I highly doubt it would work in front of even a marshall jcm800, 900, etc b/c from every combination seen from the two videos, that pedal really just drains the presence and necessary eq ranges for a good tone. Or it adds unnecessary noise that covers up good tone

In most of the settings it sounds like being outside the closed room where someone is playing with a Dimebag-like dry distortion, but you never get to be in the same room as the amp

Your need to run the DIME into a Line 6 spider 15 watt amp. Amp on Insane setting then use a fender squire (has to be a red one ) and use the neck pickup. Also helps if u use a 3.0mm pickup. Then chug away

The "Boost with a 5150" I do believe the guy meant a MXR 5150 Overdrive pedal... even tho I'm pretty sure it won't work anyway. but it seems more logic then the Amp! ahahah

Take the pedal and put it back in the box. Turn on Damageplan or Pantera. Instant Dime sound!

I’ve read that and heard that so many times over the years. I’ve been playing for over 20 years, just never really gotten into it or put any real time or effort into it, until recently. Never knew anything about recording. Just trying to learn all this stuff at age 33. 😂
I was inspired to break out of my shell by an amazing woman who has brought about an amazing change in my entire life, which is why I recently started uploading last year, after almost 12 years of having a channel. 👍🏻

This video is so good. I love how no matter what it either progressively sounded worse or that it just sounded like wearing ear plugs at practice.
alan wake if I always wore ear plugs, I wouldn’t be able to hear anything at work, or at home.. going to movies would be pretty hard too..
I got this pedal when it first came out, I had it plugged into many different amps over the years and could never make it sound good. I still own it today, and the only reason why I held onto it, because It was a gift from my parents. They knew how much I love PanterA and dime. \m/

Plugging into the front and also using it as an overdrive actually made a huge difference and was much better than the original video

Actually the setting with the pedal into the front of the amp did not sound bad.
Oh, and now that you mention it Ola, here's my vote for an Ola designed Solar distortion pedal, c'mon do it!!! \m/
I remember seeing this pedal in a Musician's Friend catalog. I thought it was super awesome and I needed to get one. Then I tried one out at a music shop and ended up buying a Metal Master instead. It was that awful of a pedal, that I actually picked the Metal Master instead.
Typical Ola not using it correctly, You need a emg 81 in your guitar, then boost the MXR DIME
by running a MXR 6 band eq into a OD pedal into the MXR DIME with all the knobs on full with the boost on, which is then run into the front of a 5150 on the drive channel which is then then patched into the FX loop of a 2nd 5150 but on the clean channel. Simple.

I think that the sound of the MXR Dime into clean channel of 5150 was pretty good. But hey, I also think, that one of the best distortion pedals ever is Digitech Grunge, so I think that my opinion doesn't matter ;)

There we have it, you run it through a real amp and it still sounds like ass. That is why you can find those pedals under 50 bucks.
The only problem is, if you look on Reverb-dot-com, you'll see a picture of the pedal with this blurb:

You guys do realize he is playing the old shitty dime right? The updated version sounds better. And has rubber knobs not those shitty plastic trash ones. They know they fucked up and remade a new batch i have one. Shows how much research people do into the pedals before commenting really.

This pedal is awful. No pedal should require all these “tricks” to still sound terrible. MXR needs to apologize and remove the sucker from the market
wrong, this pedal is AWESOME, only reason i say that is cos it is a good distortion, it's not Boss MT2 levels of bad, but it's a joke and a complete lie to what it's meant to do cos it's practically impossible to get it to sound like Darrell

Would love to hear some Hypocrisy tones given some love. I saw those dudes about a decade or so ago, not knowing much bout them cause I was at the time a brutal death loyalist, and they blew me away. Was a fan ever since. Feel lucky too cause I'd of never given them a chance back then but they were touring the states with Suffocation. 🤘Cheers

The "boost with a 5150" was the best one, but it still gargles ballz
Dime used an MXR ZW-44 Zakk Wylde Overdrive Pedal in Pantera and Damageplan. The only time that he used this "signature" model overdrive was for demo purposes, never for recording or live events. For those who think that he did, look at his rig setup reviews, watch his videos, and read the articles that he did from the Pantera days and with Damageplan. All of them have the Zakk Wylde overdrive. He always said that nothing will ever replace his Wylde overdrive.
The secret to Dimebag's sound was in his fingers!
Overall he had pretty terrible tone over his career IMO but his skill and personal tone made it what it is

I'm a huge Dimebag fan. He was one of the best metal guitarists ever, and he was probably the best metal guitarist to emerge in the last 30 years. All that being said; not everything with his name on it is going to be the best ever. Simple truth. He had a unique setup and a particular way of getting the sound he wanted. Luckily for all of us, that sound is amazing and we all wish we could sound like it, but we won't.

There is difference where you put your distortion pedal. If you put it before Input jack the signal first will be distorted and then amplified by pre-amp and then amplified by power amp. If you put your distortion pedal in FX loop the signal will be amplified by pre-amp then it will be distorted by your distortion and then it will be amplified by power amp.
