- One more teaser from the upcoming DVD Greg Koch and the Tone Controls "Vivid Gristle" to be released spring 2015. All the tunes except two go back 20+ years and are given a "live" in the studio treatment they didn't get the first time around. This is a new instrumental tune called "Rex Charmer" which is the name of the house I stay in when I'm out doing videos in Louisville, CO. Gary Koehler on drums and Kevin Mushel on bass.
The guitar is a 50th Anniversary '63 ES-335 made by our friends at Gibson Memphis…into a Jetter GS-124 Overdrive pedal, a little bit of delay from a TC Electronics Flashback X3 delay into a Fender Custom Vibrolux and a '68 Reissue Vibrolux.
Details on the release of the DVD and ordering (when the time comes) can be done at gregkoch.com
I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this beautiful song.
This tune kind of makes me feel like I'm about to watch an epic anime series. Make of that what you will.
This song is somehow simultaneously smooth and savage.
like a thief in the middle o'the NITE calling us as if by name!
WOW!! Cool song, great tones and excellent performance. And, lovely production.
Another gem from the guitar genius.
Awesome 🙏🏻🎸
Man,That 335 is the SHIZZ!!!!!!!You wear it well, sir.You are indeed, a warrior of the night! :D
That one of the best songs I have ever listened to! 😎
Nice tune dude, really. And I'm a picky bastard.
Your playing & your music is like breathing fresh air for the first time in a long time.
I just heard this played for a second clean on a Wildwood video and was blown away all over again.
What a shame this gem of an instrumental doesn‘t have vocals. This could easily be a hit!
Damn, I just can't get over this tune. I come back here at least twice a week to hear it again. I hear this tune in my head nearly all the time lately. Great stuff. I've been playing guitar, singing & performing for decades and then chilled for a while. Sadly, the recession hit Florida so hard, I had to sell all my gear & other possessions to save our home. Should I ever buy another electric & amp.......THIS WILL BE THE VERY FIRST TUNE I WORK ON............I love it that much.
I wanna jet ski while listening to this song
Nice tone . ชอบเสียงโทนนี้มากครับ...
One of the best guitar players alive to day! Everyone he plays with is just rock solid!
Gosh darn it thats pretty! One word came to mind when I heard that song "FREEDOM"!!!!!!!!
Just in time for our impending tour of Europe…we are releasing a CD of the audio from the "Vivid Gristle" DVD that came out earlier this year…some people just want to hear the jams! Greg, you weirdly make me wanna never ever pick my guitar up again and at the same time motivate and inspire me like only a select few of the guitar legends do! Hope to see you live some day.
Yes.
Greg seriously i was upset when this track stopped! How about a 20 minute version!
As I spend my last day in Australia, rocking the marsupials in Perth...I bring forth great tidings of Gristle, the new, GK and the Tone Controls DVD can be preordered now...all the preorders will be signed...DVD release will be at Shank Hall at our gig March 13...dig it!

Greg...you're so good...melodic meets licks.the band is terrific too.love the drummer's voice...on another song I just listened to.keep rocking...you're a blessing and inspiration to me as well as countless others. thanks...
how many trees were killed and cars shredded to make that freeking huge bass?
Good band really tight
Loving this here in Bonny Scotland, the 335 suits you sir!
Excellent Greg and dudes!
My fave song at the moment!
This is a talented, entertaining, and deviant mixture of tones, riffage and chordal textures.....Its kinda like...if you put together, Robben Ford, Kings X, the Allman Bros., Cream and Zep....iiiiit still wouldn't be this good! Red Rocks baby! Red Rocks! Somebody make it happen. Dig it!
Fantastic tone ... through the fingers and that 335 and out the amp. The tune sounds like a "rocked up" cross between Robben Ford and Motown. Dig it all.
yep, I got the same vibe from it. Robben Ford
Great Tune !
I had that strap in red back in 1972.
great song , love to hear in it's Final Form..
Monster backing band Greg!
There is some clapton/cream feel on this one. Wonderful!
Yeah Man!!! That tune is just "Too Kool for School". Very catchy. Awesome hooks and teetering between gritty & smooth. LOVE IT!!! Thanks for bringing back a musical bright spot in my life guys!!! You make me wanna get back on the stage for the first time in 15 years. ( Rust never sleeps, lol.)
Great song, great performance !!
Awesome!
Esse cara é fera demais
Love hearing variations on this great riff in your videos.
Great Players Greg! Fantastic!!!
So DOPE!
Sounds great, Greg!
Love it!
Ouch! Just almost too good! Mighty fine. Gristle-icious.
cool tune!!!
Tasty!!!
Mr. Koch......... you are a super cat!!!!!
Epic! Zero dislikes!
Wherefrom did the title of this beautiful piece emerge? Love the proto version. Keep that compression high, my homies.
Daymmm that bass is gigantic !!! Lol
Nice tone Greg🤠
What about the shirt??? Only garment that could rival that tone!!!
Nice Hook Kochy........Tezza!
Oh man, great song, great performance, great shots, great tones... I love it.
Looks like Cascade Fat Head mics on the amps, just wish I knew if they were stock or upgraded transformers. The guitar tone is immaculate, yet fat and beastly.
Absolutely love your music.
Do you ever play in Canada - Vancouver preferably?
Awesome musicianship.
Sweet! I've heard you play this tune on wildwood with a Leslie effect and it really had a gospel vibe. It still does, but I must say, it also sounds cool with the band and with a bit of gristle!! Well done
Sweet! \m/
Greg I hate to break it to you , cause I know you're a Greg Tele man, but damm you make that 335 just sound amazing... I think you're the 335 dude!!!!!
Nice! Great chops!
I used to, as a kid, have a Cherry CRestwood (guitar) that looked just like that.
Sure wish I'd held on to that one. Dumb Kid! Haha!
Nice Tune!
cool 70s vibe. somehow it reminds me of a cross between james taylor and EJ...
How do you play this. I cant find tabs or a guitar lesson anywhere. I am a huge fan of you in Wildwood Guitar videos and you are a huge inspiration on my guitar style and tone.
Gibson Guitar?!?!? Naughty!! Gregory Stephen, go to your room. I''m on my way with the Slipper!! :P
Classy playing and awesome tone ! Can't believe your getting that heavy tone from a Vibolux? What else lurks on that pedal board ? Now I have to buy a vibrolux.
Hey Greg!! Why isn't this on Spotify?!
kudos to the engine room
Greg Koch bro you should give me the tabs to play this on guitar :D
Hey Greg! This song is one my absolute favorites of yours. Are there tabs for this, and if so are they for sale?
great Greg and company, what amp do you use? DR68 ressiu fender??
MrToniRoll Judging by mic placement I'm guessing one of the new vibrolux reissues. Just played through one a few weeks ago and would have saved the extra to get one over the princeton had I known they were coming.
Greg Makes the 335 look like a little toy and the bass player looks like he's shrunk in the wash without his bass hahaha
I feel pleasantly centered between a decent Van Halen groove and Aerosmith melodic filth.
A less gritty more natural distortion would suit this song a lot better...The distortion is hiding the voicing too much.. Sonic clutter!
That's simply because we can only hear it here via the lousy compression of the youtube format. You can bet your ass this exact recording actually sounds MUCH better.
