  • When most people think of poor quilting tension, eye lashing jumps to mind. Too often we don’t catch these eyelashes because our tension looks great on the front of the quilt. Always, always, always, take a second to flip your quilt over and double (triple, quadruple) check your tension on the back after you start quilting.

    I am always sad when I miss the live videos :( My son's bday today. I just want to say so far every suggestion you have given me/us has been right on.( I could see the bobbin thread on top but not really bumps)I I have (TWICE) forgot to check tension after changing a bobbin or top thread, cruised for 10 minutes or so and found a big mess on back. And broke a needle (2nd or 3rd since I started my journey with you in the INTRO TO FMQ class.), and sewed my darning foot to the quilt top🤣. In the past I would have walked away frustrated, especially by the eyelashes, thinking "I can't get it"...BUT...I have also now finished a lap quilt, 3 wall hangings and several quilt as you go blocks ( I will put pics on the Facebook group soon) and I am very happy with them am SO pleased to learn I CAN!!!!!!👏👏👏👏

    I normally don’t do FMQ because I’m not terribly confident in my skills and I find I’m to tense to really appreciate it. I use my walking foot instead and love it. However, for my current project, I’m working on small portions of FMQ wishbones. I’m finding tiny eyelashes on the back. I have been watching your videos and thought, I wonder if HollyAnne is talking about this today. Sure enough! Thank you so so much for your help.

    So glad I found these, I was all set to join the original shows, but life got crazy, my husband had a heart attack, ( he’s ok now after surgery) so now I can sit a relax watching these.
    Could this happen if I’m going to fast?

    oh I'm interested in this . I"m having problems getting my Q15pro midarm tension right with 100wt on top and 80wt deco bob on the bobbin. ( I was told this is what someone used on her fmq that looked amazing. I'm getting eyelashes on the back ... I've got my bobbin tension right. then my top is a bit higher than normal . at close to 4 I backed it off when all it did was break the top thead. now it looks good but I'm trying to bring the bobbin to the top to set it back down in the sandwich.. no luck

    Cyndee from Tampa here. I desperately need help with thread breaking and eyelashes on free quilting. Huskvarna topaz 50 is absolutely driving me to stop sewing. Just out of hospital after repairing a double bypass 2 years ago by putting in a stint. I am trying to sit up and calm myself with sewing. I have quilted for at least 60 years I am 76 years young. My dealer just tells me I am threading it wrong.. Stupid! I have HD it in the swing machine 3 times in 2 ears @ $169.00 each timem..hep, help,help 😕

    Eyelashes can happen when you do any curvy designs TOO FAST, slow down on your curves, swirls or sudden directional changes

    • @StringandStory
      @StringandStory  3 месяца назад

      absolutely! Curves are always a balance of going fast enough to have smooth designs without any eyelashing
