I really hate how dragonball super tries to depict Goku as a bad father, despite the number of years in which Goku has been a good father to both Gohan and Goten, but even dragonball super had its moments that show Goku being a good father to his sons. Even though it is true that Vegeta became a better father after years in which he was a terrible father to both versions of Trunks, it doesn't take away from Goku being a good father. Also, Goku didn't abandon his family when he trained Uub at the end of Z. Goku clearly stated that he would visit while he was training Uub, and planned to return when he was done. Overall, I think Goku is a good father, Vegeta became a better father to Trunks and Bulla, and Piccolo was a good father figure to Gohan without being his actual father.

As for leaving with Uub, we have to remember that nowhere in the manga does it explicitly state that Goku is abandoning his family and friends. It was only filler in DBZ that included Pan tearing up at the idea that Goku was abandoning her, and in the first episode of GT where Goku said he hasn't seen his family in years. In the manga, we can always assume that Goku would just use instant transmission to return to his family every night. And even if he didn't have instant transmission, by this point, the Z Fighters were so good at flying that they could literally circumnavigate the globe in a matter of minutes. So at least in the manga, there was no reason to automatically assume that Goku was abandoning anybody.

I think this is good analysis and I thank you for mentioning the years that Goku spend with Goten after the majinbuu saga as I personally always believed Goku was the worst father because when Goten was born he never bothered to even see him, to figure out how he looked or ever talked to gohan, chichi or goten while he was dead despite de fact that he could literally have used kaiosama (king kai) as phone line. I am not saying to call on the weekends but perhaps at least on a birthday.

I confess I used to think Goku was a sucky dad, but looking back on it, I see now that considering his upbringing, unconventional childhood and did not go to school himself, he's not only a great dad. He's a successful man.
Vegeta was a terrible father up until the point he met future Trunks. Vegeta was recovering from the emotional trauma of Goku being a SSJ before him. When he did not try to save bulma and baby trunks from certain dead during the android saga he had not met future trunks yet, at that point he was upset with Bulma for risking Trunks' life and her own. in other words for Vegeta if that woman and that baby were to die right then and there it would not matter because to his eyes they were weak and perhaps even a burden. But all of that changed once Vegeta spent time at the hyperbolic time chamber with future trunks as it was until that point that he understood what legacg really means. Since that moment on Vegeta stayed and he was a better father than goku.

I grew up with several of my parents best friends being introduced to me as uncle or aunt so and so, so it's not weird to me to think of close friends as family.
KAI KAI #ENDERS, Goku was the better father up until Goten was born, then the roles started to shift to Vegeta being the all lovey dovey kind of guy (when Trunks was born).
One thing that is criminally underlooked in this video is that Goku beat Frieza who is supposedly the strongest in the universe and rather than going home immediately to spend time with his family he willingly chose to spend over a year training with complete strangers on a far away world. It doesn't matter if Gohan was safe or not the fact is Goku abandoned his 5-year-old for over a year. He didn't know of any future threats he just willingly abandoned his 5 year old and that alone makes him a bad father.
A year training and also that Goku did not know the controls to the Ginyu Ship for a while. He was actually stranded on Yardrat for a bit and by the time the dragon would wish him to teleport back, Goku stayed to learn a technique that'd make distance no longer be a problem to getting to the people he loves. A technique that saved the planet when Freezer arrived, which Goku killed in the future timeline. And a technique that saved the planet again against Cell. I'd say learning that technique, even if it took a year, worth it, to save those he cares about.

@@mwperk02 yeah even though cell was holding back which he was I'd say he was fighting at 70-75% while Goku was fighting at 100% there's no way he was holding back that much cause in that case he wouldn't of had to catch his breath a few times. We've seen characters in dragonball that hold back a lot of power they're not even tired. Yeah I get people say cell told Goku to take senzu bean but 1. He was most likely taunting him he knows Goku's character would NEVER allow that and 2. who's to say cell wouldn't stop him later on or take a senzu bean for himself as well we really don't know how that would of played out doubting Goku would of even did it. Maybe if Goku fired another wave at cell with half of his body down he may have won but idk if he would of had the energy to do two of them back to back like that I also don't think Goku knew about cells regeneration to do it.
But yeah I don't see what Goku was suppose to do keep fighting cell get killed let earth be the destroyed cause there's no way Gohan would of done it without his dad's encouragement cause he didn't believe in himself at all. By all technicality Goku actually won the fight because if you destroy the head you can't regenerate and I think Tori admitted he forgot about that and turns out to be a plot hole because cell was not supposed to regenerate after that. So Goku did win even though the narrative was clearly set where he wouldn't.
Wdym Goku spends time with his family when there isn't a threat. He literally abandoned his 5-year-old to go train with strangers halfway across the Galaxy for over a year. He could have came home but he literally left for over a year because he would rather train than spend time with this 5-year-old son lmao (he also didn't know of any future threats so he wasn't preparing for anything he literally just chose to leave his family for a year)

I think this is good analysis and I thank you for mentioning the years that Goku spend with Goten after the majinbuu saga as I personally always believed Goku was the worst father because when Goten was born he never bothered to even see him, to figure out how he looked or ever talked to gohan, chichi or goten while he was dead despite de fact that he could literally have used kaiosama (king kai) as phone line. I am not saying to call on the weekends but perhaps at least on a birthday.
that's a great point about King Kai as a telephone. How could Goku forget about that ability of King Kai's? And use on a special occasion such as a birthday. This would have been great to see in a filler episode.

Vegeta was a terrible father up until the point he met future Trunks. Vegeta was recovering from the emotional trauma of Goku being a SSJ before him. When he did not try to save bulma and baby trunks from certain dead during the android saga he had not met future trunks yet, at that point he was upset with Bulma for risking Trunks' life and her own. in other words for Vegeta if that woman and that baby were to die right then and there it would not matter because to his eyes they were weak and perhaps even a burden. But all of that changed once Vegeta spent time at the hyperbolic time chamber with future trunks as it was until that point that he understood what legacg really means. Since that moment on Vegeta stayed and he was a better father than goku.

Gohan shouldn't be there at all. He should be in school. The show's premise makes them terrible parents. I mean a commited parent spends most of their non-work time with their kid. Also, what people tend to ignore is that during the saiyan saga, Piccolo made the same mistake with Gohan that Goku did in the Cell saga; putting Gohan in a position that he wasn't ready for. Piccolo is a good father figure to Gohan, but he's still not Gohan's dad, nor is he a grandfather to Pan.
@@StareachValcin After watching the new movie, I guess you could call Piccolo an uncle to Pan (metaphorically)? Their relationship is incredibly close. Also, I'm not criticizing Goku, I'm just saying Piccolo has earned his way into the Son family through his continued love and care for Gohan and Pan, and his close friendship to Goku. I grew up with several of my parents best friends being introduced to me as uncle or aunt so and so, so it's not weird to me to think of close friends as family.

KAI KAI #ENDERS, Goku was the better father up until Goten was born, then the roles started to shift to Vegeta being the all lovey dovey kind of guy (when Trunks was born).
One thing that is criminally underlooked in this video is that Goku beat Frieza who is supposedly the strongest in the universe and rather than going home immediately to spend time with his family he willingly chose to spend over a year training with complete strangers on a far away world. It doesn't matter if Gohan was safe or not the fact is Goku abandoned his 5-year-old for over a year. He didn't know of any future threats he just willingly abandoned his 5 year old and that alone makes him a bad father.
A year training and also that Goku did not know the controls to the Ginyu Ship for a while. He was actually stranded on Yardrat for a bit and by the time the dragon would wish him to teleport back, Goku stayed to learn a technique that'd make distance no longer be a problem to getting to the people he loves.
A technique that saved the planet when Freezer arrived, which Goku killed in the future timeline.
And a technique that saved the planet again against Cell.
I'd say learning that technique, even if it took a year, worth it, to save those he cares about.
