Goku wasn’t perfect, but he was far better than most. He was present in gohan’s life, supported his endeavors and even sacrificed himself to save him, multiple times. He even came back from the afterlife to save his life.
The main point of contention is the cell senzu bean thing, but goku’s whole arc was realizing that someone would need to replace him eventually. He trained gohan himself for a year and even saw him go super saiyan, if anyone knew Gohan’s ability to beat cell, it was GOKU
The thing is about the senzu bean act is that Gohan literally wanted to train with Goku.
I wouldn’t say Goku forced him as well as Goku wasn’t fully sure if Gohan’s potential worked in that way or not till witnessing his progress in HTC. Now, you can say Gohan trained with Goku because of Piccolo’s statements mentioning that Gohan wanted to spend time with Goku. Which is fine but if he wanted to just “spend time” why did he seem all surprised when Goku picked him like he didn’t just train with his father for a whole year in another dimension?
Well I think there’s a big misunderstanding in Gohan’s character. Firstly, the HTC training. Gohan talks about being useless and being a side character though always need to be saved while being the son of the main character. He realizes how horrible that is so he goes super saiyan for the first time. Why is this important? It shows Gohan’s reasoning for fighting even though he doesn’t have the desire to. Gohan wasn’t shocked at the task itself he was shocked he was chosen by his father for the task. Cell literally being the strongest warrior the earth has ever seen is to be defeated by a mere child? How? Exactly what gohan was thinking but he then reveals he knew why Goku picked him. Goku picked him because he trusted Gohan with the task due to belief in his power, before even piccolo would trust Gohan’s strength and he would fail them but now he has a chance to prove himself to not everyone but to himself. So what Goku did was actually a good thing for both sides, it was just very risky like piccolo stated. You shouldn’t just send your son out there to possibly get killed with no second thought
@@xvingar6318 I mean it made sense though, at the end of the day Gohan was the strongest by far. It wasn't without a second thought either, Carthu's Dojo explained it way better than I can but Goku knew the risk but it was the best shot they had at beating Cell. I can't even say plot armor would've saved Goku because majority of the time the Plot Armor is given to the villains in the DB verse.
I pity the childhood and family life of anyone saying Goku is "far better than most".
@@xvingar6318 not true gohan went with train becuse h e thought his dad need help to beat cell
He only accepts he had to fight cell after 16 death
@@chavaspada Pity yourself.
People also tend to forget that Goku and Gohan spend a whole year in the timechamber together, he even had to give the kid a haircut. You can't tell me that goku never spend any quality time with his son when the dude spend a whole year with him doing nothing but training 24/7 and being completely postive and supportive throughout all of that. Hell they even went fishing afterwards
Goku should have given Gohan the fade tho 😂😂
3 years training in the android saga
And the birthday party when they got out.
people also forget that he spent the first four years of gohan life with him before the saiyans attacked
Plus between the db and dbz time skip goku was a stay at home dad who forgone going on adventured to get stronger. He helped raised his kid and enjoy spending time with his loving family. If it wasn’t for the plot Goku would’ve probably spent the rest of his life doing that.
I also want to point to a scene in the Buu Saga. Once Gohan’s off to fight Buu after obtaining his ultimate form, Goku has a chat with him. He tells Gohan he’s proud of him and the man he’s become, and basically apologizes for missing out on having a little more father son time along with not being able to fully see that man come to fruition. Even Gohan looks to Kobochi and asks him to change his Gi to match Goku’s because Gohan has that much respect for him. Hell, he described Goku as an angel who only brings love and joy to the people around him. Where did this notion of Goku being a terrible father come from? It ain’t from the bean because that’s just Goku’s kind and fair nature with NOTHING to do with being a bad or good dad. Is it Goku letting Gohan get the shit beaten out of him? So Goku and Vegeta can go through hell to unleash their power but when Gohan goes through it it makes Goku a bad dad? Seriously? the only reasonable counter argument is Piccolo sympathizing with Gohan by telling Goku he’s just a kid and a scared little boy. I know Picoclo has gone through significant character development but he’s none excusable when he sent Gohan to fend off giant dinosaurs by himself. And when Goku’s plan almost backfires and Cell unleashed his minions, Goku apologies for the mistake he made. He knows when he fucks up.
I'd say TFS were the ones that brought on this notion that Goku was not the best father. While the show itself was fine and had many good moments of writing as well as the comedy. There notion of writing Goku as not the best father essentially made it kind of a meme at that point. And so it kinda just stuck from what I can understand.
Piccolo was always around during Gohan's training to make sure he didn't accidentally get killed.
Piccolo also stood in front of a Ki blast to protect Gohan which ended with him dying and going to King Kai's planet.
After defeating Freza. Piccolo chose to stay on earth to look after Gohan even though he could've left with the namekians.
During the cell games Piccolo had to literally tell Goku to his face that his plan wasn't going to work because Gohan was gentle in nature.
If you look at the dichotomy.
Initially Piccolo was also counting on Gohan's hidden potential to fight off Vegeta and Nappa, yet unlike goku he had more insight into who Gohan was as a person and recognize it wasn't going to work without anyone having to tell him to his face like Goku.
The narrative that Goku was a bad father came from the fact that he didn't really raise his kids...
After the cell games Goku chose to remain dead despite Gohan saying he still needed him because Goku believed he was the reason for all the bad things happening (Piccolo chose to stay.)
After beating Buu Goku chose to go live in the desert with Uub completely abandoning his family...
Dude's living the life of a single man when he's got a family. That's why he's a bad dad....
Goku doesn’t say he’s sorry for not being around when Gohan leaves to fight Buu. He says he wished he stayed with Gohan cause he wanted to see him grow. But he didn’t want to put earth in danger.
@@Dave-gk6si arguably the same thing but you have a good point

Bruh Goku wasn't even there for Gohan's birth, but go off
@@EJones-dk8xcHe actually was since he was doing nothing else but living with Chichi and Gohan for the first Four years of Gohan's life to where he comfortably knew him as his father.
Ironically enough which no one ever ever talks about, during the Five Years in between Dragonball and Dragonball Z.... Goku basically retired from Fighting since he was already the World Martial arts Champion, Piccolo was still out there but not causing any trouble and they both had their eyes on each other from afar... which is why when Radtiz confronted them separately they both initially assumed Radtiz was either Goku or Piccolo.
Roshi mentioned that Goku was "still strong" like he was during the 23rd tournament but he didn't get exceptionally stronger during those Five Years. He still trained and kept up with his moves but he also told Piccolo he doesn't have any new moves etc with Piccolo saying that he's been slacking.
As far as we truly know, those Five Years in between Dragonball and Z was the only time Goku truly pretty much put a pause on his overall training... and was really just spending his days and time with Chichi and Gohan as a Husband and Father.
No one ever brings up that time period when they're bashing him for doing the opposite.

Ging also asked his friend to play a killing game with his son to see if he's "worth it". Wouldn't even visit him while in a coma. Even then, Ging isn't necessarily a terrible person to Gon. When Gohan could have easily killed Cell and his hubris got the better of him, Goku payed for his mistake with a smile on his face trusting him to take care of his mother and the planet
My only problem with him staying dead was his reasoning, his motive should have been Gohan has a new perspective he's younger and smarter than any z fighters.
Goku should have stated that his personality naturally morphs people to replicate him which isn't false, and how being around a father who cares about fighting affects his friends and family.
Goku was leader of the group and decided to not go after gero which lead to perfect cell being created that should have been a focus.
I think Gohan should have brought up stopping gero instead of Bulma and bring all these solutions to stop conflict from the beginning but oncd Goku mentions not hunting gero gohan should have dropped it immediately.
Gohan focus of intelligence and stopping fighting before it happens should have been center, gohans strength should have been a sub factor with Gohan IQ, logical reasoning and his leadership be what stands out rather than just his potential.
Gohan only acted savagely after having been out under stress by Goku to be better, Goku should have reflected on this and say that it'll be better if he wasn't around because he drops the iq of the whole planet basically instead of simply attracting bad guys.

Goku is a country bumpkin that just likes fighting. The man has displayed almost no leadership qualities nor has he actually led a team.
Also, remember, before Z started nobody thought The Red ribbon army still existed. Goku didn't even know who Gero was before Trunks told him.
Goku wanted to stay dead because he felt like his presence on earth caused nothing but trouble. And guess what happened on the day he comes back to see his family the same way his grandfather came back to see him? The Buu saga.
I called him a country bumpkin earlier, but the man has a really good instincts.

Even in DBS (anime), Goku is a pretty good father and his sons don’t have many bad things to say about him. Gohan allowed Goku to go to his wedding, Gohan defended Goku’s desire to train with Whis against Chi-Chi’s desire for normality in an abnormal world that’s constantly in danger, Goku would hang out with Gohan and his own family just to chill, Goku would take up farming to pay for his family’s needs, Goku respects Gohan’s desire to be a scholar over just forcing him to train, Goku almost dies to Hit and both Gohan & Goten are very visibly concerned for their father’s wellbeing, Goku after rivaling himself asks Gohan if it’s ok for him to chase after Hit, Goku tells Gohan about the Tournament of Power and trusted him to keep it a secret so everyone wouldn’t possibly freak out, Goku honors his son’s request to take him seriously once he does train, Goku makes Gohan the leader of the Universe 7 team, Gohan defends Goku against other fighters after his battle with Jiren weakened him and Gohan & Goten always calls Goku “father” instead of seeing him as a bastard who’s never around for them.
Not to mention even Pan loves him! Flying around with her making sure she doesn’t die and keeping her engaged. He’s a good father and a great grandpa too!
We ignoring when Goku was confused why Vegeta would be willing to skip out on training to watch the birth of his daughter?
@@galientl4723 I’ll admit that it was definitely a weird thing to see, but it was less about basic training and more about getting Vegeta involved in the TOP. Goku saying that he wasn’t around for his sons births and Vegeta calling Goku a bad father is definitely a Toriyama moment that contradicts certain details. Goku wasn’t around for the birth of Goten since he was dead (free pass) and Goku lived with Chi-Chi during the time of Gohan’s birth, so even if her father was around and Goku wasn’t, I doubt Chi-Chi wouldn’t have been happy with Goku’s absence for such an event and would have explained the importance of it back then. Even if what was said was true, Vegeta wasn’t around for Trunks’ birth, so it’s not like he could judge Goku here. I just think it was one of those moments where Toriyama wanted Goku to look as bad as he claimed, but since the guy needed to do research on his own series to understand it to some unknown degree, it’s hard to take his words seriously if they contradict certain details of his own series. Goku was around when they (Goku, Chi-Chi & Ox King) were trying to figure out Gohan’s name in the anime, so he’d be around for that, but not the birth of his own son? It doesn’t seem logical especially when Goku never trained Gohan during those 5 years before Z started and Goku is practically addicted to training.
@@JustADemon2023 Vegeta was still a bad person when Trunks was bad. Goku was never evil nor adhered to Saiyen cultural norms so he doesn’t have an excuse. The fact he couldn’t even comprehend why that would be something worth skipping training for days enough about Goku’s mentality. Chichi shouldn’t have to strong arm him into it.
Talking about Super not Z, I don’t think Z Goku was bad.
@@galientl4723 That doesn’t really matter. In the real world, if someone committed a crime, improved themselves and called someone else out for doing something similar, wouldn’t that be considered hypocritical? Vegeta was a horrible father, even if he’s changed, he almost let Bulma and Baby Trunks die just so he could go after Dr. Gero. This just means that if Bulma died at that point, she was replaceable. I only mention Z because it’s connected to Super and many things in Z are relevant to the discussion. As for Goku, it just doesn’t make sense for him to not be present for Gohan’s birth since that could have effected the beginning of Z. If Goku went to visit Bulma, Krillin or Roshi while Chi-Chi was in labor, then they would have known about the kid sooner, but they didn’t even know about Gohan’s existence until he was 5 years old (if Goku ran somewhere else, I can’t think of anywhere Goku could go at this time). What I’m saying is now that Toriyama can write Goku how he wanted in Super, so he tried making him a “bad father” even if it contradicts who Goku is. Chi-Chi is also important here. Why would she want another child after that horrible experience? If Goku’s that uncaring in Super, why would she go through that again if he learned nothing?
Part of this mentality might come from DBZA, the guys from team four star did excellent work with the series, but I think they did their job too well.

The thing about the cell scene is that Goku fully admits his mistake. We truly see that Goku has that "Oh shit. I fucked up badly" face and it stems from him being too confident in his son and forgetting that Goku and Gohan's childhoods were vastly different
@xana7617uh no they weren't dude. Gohan was forced to be a child soldier the majority of his life despite hating fighting. Goku did what he did of his own free will.

He sacrificed his life to save everyone on earth and why shouldn't he, he granteed to get revived in the end, dying himself gives piccolo a higher chance of survival leading to the dragon balls still being around.
A real sacrifice in dragon ball is bardock saving his son with no way to see him, no way to get revived and he's probably in hell so even after his death he can't see the man his son grew up to be.
The person who put Goku in the same tier list as Peter Griffin is insane. You didn’t mention it. But people always complain when he dies during the cell saga and decides not to come back. Goku’s reasoning was that, every time he’s around there’s always a big bad that threatens the earth. And so, for the safety of his friends and family. He stays dead. When he eventually comes back with the halo on his head, to participate in the next Tenkaichi tournament. Another BIG BAD appears. Might be too much of a coincidence, but he wasn’t wrong. It's sad because Goku is a better father than some real life parents (Those who abuse their kids, Those who hate them, those who uses them, those who neglect or ignore them, and those who didn't even bother to be part of their life and left or abandoned their kids) and yet people still hate on Goku as a dad like bro sacrificed his life twice and broke the rules of life and dead and yet they all still have the Audacity to call Goku a bad dad
The bean is literally the one thing I would say is the most egregious of any of his acts, but something that I always point out to defend Goku is when he is literally taking time off training during the lead up to the Cell Games as a literal means to give his son, as well as his friends a reprieve from the violence and exhausting training. Even admitting that he was unsure he could win but didn't want anyone to panic and so chose to set aside his ignorant pursuit of strength to ensure their was good morale between his family and friends until the end.
He did it cuz he knew Gohan could win anyway. Besides it would make him stronger
@@goldenlockx Incorrect. He knew he had the potential to win and was hopeful. Goku knew that Gohan had to be pushed to a breaking point, but also knew Gohan wasn't like him. Knowing fighting was a second nature to him. An obligation in a time of strife. Goku was thinking of Gohan's potential and did react accordingly after Piccolo pointed out that he was in immense pain, so he wasn't completely blind and still acted paternally, but risked Gohan's life on a gambit. Gohan did win and was made better for it, but had Cell not pulled out the Cell Jrs and killed 16, Gohan may not have had enough rage to actually reach the necessary state.

It's gotta be that TFS after effect man. They REALLY laid it out there to make it seem like Goku is not the best father. But I just recently watched some of the scenes between Goku and Goten. And I gotta say. Goku is an amazing father. Truly some of the best. I say this because I also love my dad very much as well. And as an adult I can now understand the flaws that were in my dad as well. He wasn't a perfect dad. No one's ever able to get it right 100% of the time. But the things that I was able to gain from my father. Like his level of patience is what really matters to me. His patience and understanding he had for me and my siblings was something to be marveled at. So when he had passed away back in November of 2020. That loss still hits me and my family every now and then. But I am still able to carry on because of what I got to learn from him. And Gohan and Goten had certainly gained something from Goku during the times they were together. No matter how brief.
The "Goku is a bad dad" narrative started from a joke made by TeamFourStar back when they did the Abridged Series. It just happened to have turned into an arguing point overtime.

I thought this because I haven’t watched actual dbz since i was like 12 and ive watched dbza like 20 times since then
Peetty sure dbza is the main reason ppl think this cause thats why i thought this
Ya'll remember when they got the news that goku was going to be coming back for the day to participate in the tournament? How freaking excited Gohan was? And then how he literally cried and ran to hug his father the moment he saw him again in the flesh? If Goku was the terrible father that people love to potray him as, Gohan would not have that reaction, no child has that kind of reaction when seeing their parent after a long time. Gohan hold pure respect for his father and loves him so much it's honestly sad to see soo many people misinterpret their relationship and call Goku a bad father. As much as I like to laugh to the jokes tfs has made with dbz abridged, I honestly believe it's their fault why the community heavily believes the narrative of Goku being a bad father, and even believe that gohan hates and hold no respect for goku.
You can't blame TFS, they have always explicitly stated in every episode "this is a fan-based parody". It's not their fault people can't separate a parody from the official series because they don't have the attention span to sit through the entire show again or are too lazy to read the manga.
This is what happens when you view a series solely on your outdated memories of it and haven't bothered to re-experience it in recent times.
@peace1290 I understand where you're coming from. Normally I would say yes you are right, but as a community, we definitely can put some blame on TFS. Yes they are a fan based parody, but they are the ones who perpetuated this narrative of Goku being a terrible father. Hell, they even reference scenes or events to try proving their point in the show to point out why goku is bad while misleading the audience and they have also outside of the series, popularized the idea that he's a bad father. Even in their most recent buu bits with what vegeta comments of him being the better father after knocking out trunks and goten.
Again, I would normally agree with you but when they don't even try to separate that "joke" from their content that isn't a parody, yes we can as an audience and community put blame on them for ingraining that idea to people.
The way I HOLLERED when you said "He wasn't a dead-beat......HE WAS DEAD!"
"papa goku was not a deadbeat he was just dead" LMAOOOO
I’m so glad you made this video i’ve been saying this for years. if anything vegeta deserves more of this he literally admitted he hadn’t held his own son since he was a baby but goku gets the bad name cuz he’s dead
Nah Vegeta''s a shit dad too. If I'm not letting Goku of the hook for dying twice to protect Gohan, I'm not letting Vegeta off the hook for dying ONCE to protect Trunks (with whom he was incredibly distant and demanding for the kid's whole life up to that point) from a crisis HE caused in the first place.
Another point I'd like to mention is something that happened during Gohan's battle with Cell, before he went Super Saiyan 2. For most of the fight up to this event, Goku wanted to just let things play out in hopes that Gohan would awaken his power on his own, but when Cell was giving Gohan the mother of all bear hugs, Piccolo set him straight, letting him know just how much he'd miscalculated. A bad father would have just shrugged off this much-needed reality check and let it keep happening, but Goku asked for a Senzu bean. If Cell hadn't released Gohan and decided to try a different approach, Goku was about to step in and save the kid's hide once again. He was seconds away from rushing back onto the battlefield to get his son away from Cell.
Did Goku misjudge his son? absolutely. Does that make him a terrible dad? no, not even close. He may not have fully taken Gohan's motives and personality into account, but he more than made up for that by giving up his own life to try and rectify the situation when it got way the hell out of hand. Also, there was an evil maniacal android powerhouse threatening the very existence of the planet and everyone/everything on it, and Goku knew that his son's enormous power was needed. In that moment, all that ultimately mattered was saving the world from the biggest threat it had ever seen up to that point.
If anything, I'd argue that Chi Chi was the misguided one, believing that Gohan's education was of greater import than the salvation of the planet. If she'd gotten her way, the Earth would have been reduced to space dust and everyone would be dead. Goku is far from perfect. He has his flaws, there's no denying that, but this whole "he's a horrible father" thing is way overblown in my humble opinion. He's definitely made mistakes, but honestly who hasn't. In that regard, he's no different than anyone else.
Edit: there's something I forgot to mention when I typed this out a few days ago. We all know how Goku chose to stay dead after the defeat of Cell, believing himself to be the cause of all the threats toward the planet he had come to call home. Another factor that people in the "Goku is a lousy dad" camp seem to overlook is how he set all of that aside. When Gohan and his adoptive home world were in mortal danger at the hands of Super Buu, Goku didn't exactly balk at the prospect of the elder Kai offering up his life force so that Goku could rejoin the fight. Goku opted to forgo his wish to remain in the afterlife and stay out of the affairs of the living world, just so that he could rescue his son, and save the Earth once again. Would a bad father do that? I don't think so.
Exactly he is not perfect, most fathers are not perfect but i think goku did a decent job at it.
@@Takerutomy Amen to that! He did the best he could, and did what he thought was right. His decisions might not have been the best at times, but by no means does he deserve his reputation as a crappy dad.

Absolutely agree , just because goku let gohan fight sell alone doesn't mean he is a bad father ,it means he trust gohan and knows what he can do
And he was right in the end
It’s not the fighting alone part it’s the fact he gave him a senzu bean to recover him to full strength. That’s like giving your child’s bully a gun and telling your child that they’re strong enough to defend yourself from a armed person. If that doesn’t show how bad of a father he is idk what will.
True, i think goku letting gohan fight cell is a good and bad decission. it is bad on the other hand because the red ribbon shit is technically goku's issue, especially with him allowing 17 and 18 to be created + the fate of the world is on the line.
But it's also very much based on the fact that goku knows he can't do it but gohan can he has faith in his son it's a mix.
It's not the best decision but it makes sense and it just shows how goku believes in his son. And it's one of those things actually better in the long run because somebody needs to be reliable when goku isn't around.
That is why he was teaching goten and trunks the fusion technique instead of try to beat buu by himself because at some point these problems need to be solved without just goku.

Goku on the other hand suffered a traumatic head injury that likely was never properly cared for. Unfortunately a common side effect of trauma to the head like that is a major loss in impulse control. This really does seem to be Goku's main flaw as a father, if he gets some idea in his head he can't seem to just sit on it, he has to start putting it into motion(be that "I'm going to train", "I'm going to stay on this planet to learn their techniques", "my son is probably going to be better able to defeat Cell than I am", "trouble only seems to show up while I'm on earth, so maybe I should stay dead". Piccolo chucking Gohan at a mountain: *flirting*
Goku tossing Cell a senzu so Gohan is more likely to be backed into a corner to use his full power and save the entire universe: *harassment*
Two things I want to add. Goku stayed on Yardrat not just to take a vacation but to learn abilities he has never seen before, abilities that would allow him to save more of his loved ones as a lot of people got hurt in the Saiyan Saga because Goku couldn’t get there fast enough and his son almost died, then getting to Namek he barely got there in time to save Gohan again. So it makes sense that he goes oh cool an ability that will let me get to my loved ones in time to save them instantly yeah I’m definitely going to learn that.
Next Goku didn’t just believe Gohan could beat Cell he knew he could and also knew that someone would have to be able to save earth after him as he had already died once, nearly died twice, and was now seeing more and more enemies show up.
Ironically, I think Goku's innocent shortsightedness (and weird upbringing) is the cause of a lot of this discourse. Goku has THAT much confidence in Gohan that he sometimes figures he doesn't need to be shadowed, which can feel weird from a dad/son perspective. Especially when you consider Goku's own parental figure was more of a Master/Student situation, though he clearly loved Grandpa Gohan.
And another thing....everyone forgot, gohan trained with everyone's intention of him fighting, yet with cell, they magically forgot that. He was already gonna fight, not even as a ssj yet they was willing to ride wit it. Also, ppl also forget, after frieza died, hoku was hurt, needed to heal...and he just watched his best friend die, with no idea how he was gonna come back to life! Let that man have his time.
Like sysnsei pointed out,
Goku didn't really get the chance to be a father. Villains were constantly coming after him. Sometimes killing him
What I find as another reason he’s a good dad: he warns Gohan that he’s about to go insane when he first goes super Saiyan and you can tell he’s yelling at Gohan in fear of what’s gonna happen if he doesn’t get outta there right now, not in anger

I personally always thought that thing about "Gohan don't like to fight" a little forced at this point... sure, he don't love it like Goku does, but he does have interest on fight... before that scene, if you ask anyone if Gohan prefer to study or to fight, everyone would answer "fight"... we have dozen of times of him, by his own iniciative, wanting to training, or help in the fights... everytime he appears studing, is because Chichi is making him do it..

I use to think people were just bantering but people were actually serious. When you add the popularity of DBZA it seemed like gospel that Goku is bad father.
I feel like a MAJOR part of the problem is TeamFourStar, but even Takahata and Lanipator said themselves that they basically wrote Goku to be like Homer Simpson (notably listed among the "horrible dads list"), and also begged people to not take it seriously BECAUSE IT'S A PARODY.
BUT WHAT DID EVERYONE DO?! THE EXACT OPPOSITE!

This whole narrative of Goku being a terrible dad might've been exasperated by TFS. As well-written as DBZA can be at times it really does perpetuate misconceptions in the community like Piccolo being Gohan's real dad even though Goku busted his ass to save the universe and improve Gohan along the way.
FINALLY, a video that describes how I've felt For YEARS. I Appreciate you...
One more thing I'd like to point out, is that when Goku arrives in the Sayian Saga against Nappa and Vegeta, who is the first one he goes to help? Gohan. He does it again on Namek against Recoome.
When Goku sacrifices himself against Cell, he pretty much tells Gohan that he's proud of him. Not those exact words, but the meaning is clear. Even though Gohan messed up and didn't kill Cell when he had a chance, Goku is still proud of his son.
Was rewatching DBZ and in the beginning of the namek saga goku is literally in hospital and one of the first things he says is “I really do hope gohan is okay”
To be fair, Goku is a warrior at heart. A kind and compassionate one, but a warrior nonetheless. He didn't even know Chi Chi was in love with him and wanted to marry him for the longest time, and accidentally hurts her when he doesn't understand. I think the irresponsible things he's done is due to ignorance, not by selfish pride as with most saiyans.
You're talking about the person who thinked marriage is food a person who has been thougth to figth, and even if he didn't know he accepted it.
And ignorance bruh???? Is fck knowledge or will you know what marriage is when you have been libing in the woods for 10 years and then with literally GOD.
Thank you for this video, too many people only watch the abridged version where they made Goku being a bad dad and Piccolo being the real dad jokes and took it seriously.
To be honest the only time i considered Goku not being a good father, was when in the end of the story he left to train oob.
Which sadly was not mentioned here.
But besides that everything you said is 100% accurate.
Great video
Yeah but at that point both of his sons are adults. Gohan straight up moved out of the house(later to move back near his family home) and has his own family. Goten is seventeen and practically old enough to make his own decisions.
I mean most of his family members can fly around the globe and sense his whereabouts, i dont see that as an issue lol.
Plus the only reason he did that was so earth can have a protector when he isn't around since he knew Gohan, Goten and trunks were focused on other things and he accepted that and moved onto uub so many people twist that as him leaving just to train some kid but that ain't the case
The distortion on the mic every time you yell HE DIES 😂
THANK YOU MASK! I always see people meming while simultaneously being serious in saying Goku is a bad father. And the crux of their argument is almost always and exclusively based on the fact he doesn’t spend enough time with his kids (primarily gohan), even though he was DEAD for the times that they argue about.
Only 22 seconds in and this video already seems very promising. You instantly have my attention and respect when you say the idea of Goku being a bad father is not true and needs to die.
Edit: Ok, I finished the video, and THANK YOU. Thank you so much for saying this. These are my exact thoughts. There are good and bad memes in the Dragon Ball community, but one of the worse ones I hate the most is Piccolo being Gohan's "real" Dad/Goku is a horrible father. No one's perfect. Goku may not be the best father, or stand out as an extremely good one, but he still is a good father, and I'd say from Gohan perspective he is a great or even the best father even with stressful and suffering-filled moments like fighting Cell after he got a Senzu Bean. That was a big mistake on Goku's part as he completely misunderstood his son's motivations and perspective on fighting, but like you said Goku was still partially right in the end and it helped them be better prepared for the future.
Thanks so much for making this video.
THANK YOU. I HAD A COMMENT ON TIK TOK THAT ADDRESSED THIS AND MANY TT PEOPLE MISSED MY POINT ABOUT THIS!!
I never saw Goku as a dead-beat dad. He is a warrior, and a warrior life is a demanding one. Him off training to come back to protect his family and friends is not really any different then fathers whose jobs take him away but it is how he is providing for their family. In reality, he is not much different than a parent that is in the military, or on an oil rig, Alaska king crab fishing. There are many of job that have the parent away from the family.
Too may people who aint watched dbz have to many opinions on dbz lmfao PUT RESPECT OF GOATKU
im so glad you made this video thanks
Goku ain't a bad dad by anime or even cartoon standards. He's just an absent dad who pops up every now and then and who makes the most of it when he's with his kids.
Keep this in mind, the person Gohan trained with and got the biggest power boost is from the guy that said, "I believe in you, son."
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO PAPA GOKU FTW ❤❤❤ These fans growing up on TFS need to stop shitting on the symbol of HYPE
As a parent, you dont get to have a years vacation away from your kid. That is called being a bad parent. Now if it was forced like work for instance or when goku got killed by raditz that makes sense. But not coming back to be with his family after frieza IS a bad father move. Brushing it off doenst help your point.
You also ignored goten goku entirely. Goku DECIDED to stay dead instead of being in his 2nd childs life. Didnt meet him until he was 7. Goku then spends most of his time training at king kais until he then takes extended leaves to train at beerus's planet. Then end of z he leaves his family again to train uub instead. All in all, his absence is what makes him a bad father, not his actions towards his sons
Thank you for spreading the word on something that should be obvious!
