    ive had many bearings but back in the day when i was 16 we use to just get cheap NMB bearings they were like £1 each. but then i got Bones Swiss and thought they were good but i didnt notice or remember me thinking wow these are soooo fast or smooth idk, i never looked after them or cleaned them for many years and i hadnt been on my board for a long time and i went to ride it and most bearings had rust in i could feel and didnt run smooth, so i got new bronson G3s they were sick and smooth and even my friend asked what bearings i got when he rode my board. then like 2-3 months later of skating once a week, i do a 180 over a flat bar rail and balls popped out of one bearing. the others are fine, but i did take the shields off both sides because i wanted to be a cool OG and have people hear me coming lol Mark Appleyard

    Bones Swiss 6 are where it’s at if you are undecided between them, regular Swiss, or labyrinth. I’ve heard lots of reviews that the bones reds big balls don’t live up to the hype. Mini logo beatings also perform as well as reds, and are $10. Mini logo used to have different shields, and a non nylon race, but the new ones are literally as good as reds. Basically, if you have $60, get Swiss 6, and if you are broke get mini logo.

    I heard the ceramic bearings are for longboards and their down hill speeds, the ceramic just takes the heat better from the long downhill runs. Also ceramic bearings can't withstand drop impacts as well as other bearings. I like the labyrinth or the 6balls for park and street sk8ing.

    • @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH
      @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH 2 года назад +1

      Wrong. There are two types of ceramic balls - white (zirkonium oxyde) and grey (silicone nitrite), grey are twice as strong as white, whites are 1.6x stronger than steel. They are lightweight, lower friction resistance, high temperature resistance, higher rigidity, higher hardness, have smoother surface, and higher corrosion resistant. Problem is, if you do drops, you still can damage both types, and steel are simply cheaper to replace. Just don't take steel if your life depends on it. I think bones are overpriced exactly to the pain point, where people would go ceramics instead, but slightly lower. They are handsdown one of the better bearings, but mostly due to lower friction.

    • @TomasLomba
      @TomasLomba 2 года назад +2

      @@HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH Materials Engineering student here. Ceramic is harder than steel and therefore more resistant to scratching. They will last longer. BUT, ceramic is more fragile than steel ands has lower tenacity. Therefore they are weaker against impacts. So the recommendation above is accurate, if you want the absolute best, get ceramic ball bearings for longboarding and steel ball bearings for skating. If you have a lot of money though use ceramic bearings and replace them regularly.

    • @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH
      @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH 2 года назад

      @@TomasLomba I want to question something that you posted - the durability aspect specifically for skateboarding (tricks). I am a 290 lbs guy, who also uses indestructable Capsule deck with all-terrain wheels (86 mindless sucka). I used different steel bearings and they all start to make noise and increase resistance between 1 and 3 months. And I do cleaned and lubricated those, sometimes full cleaning doesnt fix anything and they continue to degrade. But I have never experienced resistance and noise increase with ceramics, they roll and make noise the same way how they rolled a year ago.
      What I assume is - skateboarding is a dusty and low-rpm workload. Some testers forget this. Plus they sometimes also falsely assume ceramic to be immortal - that is clearly false, I expect both to EOL at some point. But the gradual degrade of races with ceramics balls due to the abrasion simply doesn't seem to be any factor under this workload. First factors seem to be the damage resistance, dust and moisture under low rpm. We are not doing thousands of kilometers at high speeds either. By the time ceramic variant starts to get minor race abrasion and instability from dents in races, steel bearings are long dead, as the dust combined with forces introduces dents and scratches into both steel balls and races. I think ceramic dents in races are not as fatal as the dents in the steel balls that add to non-uniformity plus increase the scratching of race. Plus ceramic balls are much more accurate in shape, so they always distribute the forces and compensate for damage better. Probably also the reason why they have a much lesser roll resistance when loaded (under human body weight).
      Price isn't a factor, 8 set of SiNi ceramics costs already around $50, same set of very high quality steel is $40. Nearly same.
      Only downside I found in ceramics is that they are definitely not for "riders" that spend most of the time smashing their board against the wall. Here steel balls will be a cheaper mutilation material. Also I have never done jumps from 1+ meters or higher, I still need my knee joints.
      I will be happy to also hear your experiences with both types.
      Best

    • @TomasLomba
      @TomasLomba 2 года назад

      @@HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH The thing is that there are many different kinds of wear and deformation a material can sustain. Therefore you can never say one material is better than others (when comparing steel and ceramic for instance) because it always boils to pros and cons. Ceramic ball will be more precise in shape generally since sintering is a more precise manufacturing process. But the same kind of perfection can be achieved through powder alloys of steel at roughly the same price. Again, steel is tougher, ceramic is harder. Steel will show surface wear, dents and deformation much earlier. But also will cope with impacts much better. (to talk about numbers we would need to know the specific alloys). In a high impact situation, steel will deform but ceramic will brake or crack. As a last thought, one can never truly know the quality of steel used in ball bearings because we do not know the specific alloys used.
      As a side note, bearings use grease, not oil so be careful to keep that in mind because improper lubrication of bearings results in loads of damage really fast.

    • @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH
      @HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH 2 года назад

      @@TomasLomba I think the problem here is that you dont skateboard or didnt try highest grade steel bearing and ceramic bearing, maybe. If so I can highly recommend to try. There is quite large difference in roll resistance, noise and durability, not that much difference in price. The ceramic variant needs some practice to get used to as it generally tends to make board .. roll by itself, sometimes from under the feet. But its is addictive, effortless.
      Skateboard bearings use either pure fine oil or a mixture of oil with a fraction of lithium or lithium graphite greese. The low roll resistance is very high priority. Some bearings are even shieldless (bronson raw) - but I think its not smart. I never heard of cracking/crushing Si4N3 ball, I think only races take damage. No manufacturer uses pure greese, the resistence it introduces kills all the fun. :)

    He should have added the Bones Red Race bearings to the list! I own the Redz Race, original Redz, and the original Swiss bearings. I tested each one in the same wheels, and for a little cheaper than the original Swiss, the Redz RACE bearings are just as good in a speed test. I think it is because with the Redz Race, bearing spacers and washers are already manufactured in the bearing itself. I cannot say though which bearing is best in the long run over time.
