You really went to town on this one Vern. The cabinet looks good, it should come up a treat. You are right, you need patients to do woodwork, I had to start again three times on my current project, I don't get upset, just get stuck in, there is nothing you can do about it. I hope you have better luck than me with yours 🙂
The woodworking part is sometimes the hardest part of any restoration. Lucky for me I was a woodworker long before a tube radio restorer and know a few tricks to reviving cabinetry as it is just a piece of furniture. Yes, you need patience but you do use it for the outside of the chassis work. The waiting for stuff to dry is the hardest part.
Probably not a timely suggestion any longer, but I have had some success in the past, coating fragile labels with a couple coats of water based acrylic clear coat prior to masking them. It seems to toughen the surface and reduce lift off when masking. Always enjoy your work on these old pieces, thanks! - JRH
I often just spray Clear Flat lacquer on them. The UL one that came apart (lost the black ring) was delaminating to begin with. But thanks for the tip and for watching.
Looks like the wood is mahogany. Nice looking project. Thanks!
Coming along very nicely! I hate doing the cabinets too.

That cabinet is looking very nice. I noted some Buzzesque noises as well. I am sure it's going to be a great restoration!
