I we genuinely appreciate you appreciating them! We're big on trying to make content that's as easy to digest as possible, so glad that the visuals helped. I've consumed a lot of board game content over the years, and sometimes it's just difficult to understand what's going on with out some added graphics. 😁
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put together a playthrough of Wyrmspan! Looking forward to eventually getting thoughts from the whole MvM team!
Have recently bought Wyrmspan and I always do the teach for the family. Loved the video, it was really clear what you were doing and was amusing to watch your chemistry too. Looking forward to getting this to the table this afternoon. Thanks guys
Such an excellent gameplay video to show how the game plays! MvM always does such a spectacular job with the production and, as other have said, the pop of up of the card onto the screen is really helpful for keeping up with what's happening. Thank you for taking the time to edit everything so smoothly for the audience to follow!
Rules correction.... during her turn which starts at 11:47 she takes a cave from the display. At the end of each player's turn you're supposed to replenish any empty dragon or cave spots on the display. Rule book page 11, bottom of the left-hand column. (Don't confuse this with discarding and replacing all the cards on the display at the end of each ROUND)
This was a 10/10, I read the manual and watched a couple videos but there was still some small stuff that wasn’t clear to me and thanks to this I’ve got it! Had a blast playing too. Thank you!
This is fantastic to hear, and we really appreciate you sharing that comment! Glad you had a good time with it, and thanks again for checking out our playthrough.
Alicia brings great energy to the channel. Really enjoyed this partial playthrough. There has been so much content online about this game but you really showed what it was all about. Really got a feel for the game watching your playthrough, so thanks! (Btw, the artist also did the art for Floriferous. She's very talented!)
Oh, I'm gonna try to get her (Elisha by the way) on the channel more and more! Thanks for watching, and for the nice comment too. I'm going to look up Floriferous now.
This video is sooo good! It is easy to follow the gameplay and understand what happens. The card overlays is great. I also appreciate the nice relaxed feeling and just right tempo and wouldn’t have mind looking at all four rounds. The game mechanics seem to be in my taste even though I feel a bit sceptical about the dragon theme.
Great video! I wish we could have seen the whole playthrough. I will probably order this as soon as it goes live. And the gold will forever be butter when I play it. LOL
Exactly the kind of gameplay video I was looking for! I'd been weighing Wingspan vs Wyrmspan for weeks and this made me sure I want to buy Wyrmspan first. Thanks!
Ahhh!! Spry Horned Lung Dragon (Pivoine) is the dragon I adopted from Clementine Campardou which just arrived in its new home today! I love that he's one of the first dragons you played! Need to get him framed, but he's awesome. :)
Well done on this video. I have a clear understanding of the iconography and gameplay. I think your gameplay videos are my favorite of any RUclips channel. I am definitely getting this game even though I am a fan of the bird theme from the original. I do like the dragon theme, but the changes in gameplay and the ability to gain extra actions sounds more enjoyable to me. Thanks for the great content.
Just got the game and this video was helpful in showing how to play. The written instructions that the game came with are so confusing lol. Thanks for this!
At what point was your board completely filled with dragons? Were you left with several turns after your board was full? I was under the assumption that it would be rare to fill your board.
It was the final turn or two of the last round. I chase extra action coins with a vengeance, so I don't think filling the board will be generally possible without grabbing some extra actions coins, and this would probably be even less likely at higher players counts than two (I think).
Great content, guys, as usual! From the shots to the editing, on-screen graphics, explanations, everything is immediately clear! Watching videos on this channel is a pleasure. The same accessibility, however, I have some doubts about for Wyrmspan. The new mechanics are a breath of fresh air compared to Wingspan-and after all, Connie had already shown her talent with Apiary (a true feast of euro mechanics perfectly amalgamated into a neat and fun design). But the art direction doesn't convince me much here. I'm not talking about the dragon illustrations; some may be a bit anonymous, but overall, they have a delicate and pleasant style. I'm more concerned about the game boards, which I find absolutely confusing and not well-crafted. The background artwork may be a matter of taste; I find it a bit dull and repetitive, but that's subjective. However, some important details are missing, like the cavern cards not integrating into the overall design, but actually interrupting and cluttering the board. The amount of text and (bland) icons, in this sense, doesn't help either. I'm not sure if it's a production issue (perhaps using dual-layer boards would have been better?) or an art direction problem, but for a game targeting a mid-light weight euro audience, a bit more effort on the accessibility front could have been made. I'm probably being too critical, but in recent years, great strides have been made in terms of accessibility and clean art-design. It's a bummer not to see them reflected in such a highly anticipated game. What are your thoughts?
Those are all solid points, and fair. While the Player boards struck me at first as a bit busy, they haven’t bothered us when playing. I think they appear a little cleaner in person than they might on screen (as you’re seeing them). The design works better for me than Wingspan (which I really enjoyed too). I think Connie has quickly cemented her place as one of my favorite new designers. The choices she makes in her designs seem to be exactly suited to my tastes. They’re just fun. Thanks for commenting and of course for watching!
This looks tighter and more strategically challenging than Wingspan, which is a welcome "upgrade" for my game group. This video really got me excited to play Wyrmspan. Thanks!
It definitely feels more strategic, and the fact that you get your pick of resources whenever you get resources (generally) helps it feel that way. I do think this will be the preference for me personally, and I look forward to where they might take it with expansions.
The color mismatch/clash between the cave cards and the actual three zones in the game is insane to me. Why on earth did they think that is the way to go? You can place a yellow cave ANYWHERE? Why did they even bother giving them different colors? Should just stuck to black/white
You need to have your wife on more often. She is a hoot! Loved the game play by the way. Would have enjoyed watching the full game. I know there are time constraints, but still. 🙂
Nice video! I think I am going to get this one and I can totally justify it by not owning Wingspan! Will be two games in a row by the same designer for me. Glad it is named Wyrmspan because not everything I have seen so far is what I would call a dragon, but they are all wyrms. I mean, when all you have in your universe is a bunch of wyverns, *cough*(GoT), I guess you can get away with calling them dragons, but when you have the whole of several mythos of these critters, wyrm is the word!!! Sing along time: 🎶Wyrm, wyrm, wyrm🎶 🎶 Wyrm is the word!🎶
I really like the videos! However there are problems with the sound, a lot of ups and downs in volume because of the distance of your mouth and the mic. It can easily be solved in all video editing softwares. The game looks interesting. I didn't like wingspan, I like the Dragon theme though so I might play it once it's available.
Thanks for the comment. We've been experimenting with some new mics, but they operate such that any head movement can affect the audio level quite a bit. We'll probably go back to our old mics, but we're also considering shifting over to a boom instead.
Nice video. But this is another SM-game I will pass on. The Dragon-"Facts" book is a terrible name IMHO. Instead of dragons a (fictional) time-travel back to the period of dinosaurs (or into Arthur Cannon Doyles "Lost world") would have sold me on the game. So, my one BIG reason for Wingspan and against Wyrm"spam" (as somebody called it elsewhere) is real birds over yet another fantasy game.
lmao it's always amusing to see people out themselves as childish pricks that cause themselves problems over the wackiest takes. Oh no its not based off real animals! What a crime. Why do you even buy games?
To each their own, but if you like playing Wingspan in the least, this is definitely worth giving a try if/when you get the chance. Thanks for watching!
I'm sure you're not alone. There will be plenty of people who might prefer the original. Curious though, is there any particular reason you think you'd rather Wingspan than this one?
Same here, but that's only after watching this video... I think I miss the tension of the birdhouse... But like I said just watched this video so difficult to say. Is there luck involved in getting those extra turns, because if you get cards that give you extra turns and other players don't, looks like a little bit unbalanced and can be frustrating although David didn't seem to take advantage from it 🙂
@meeple I find it funny that you say "original". How can Wingspan be the "original" if this is suppose to be its own game? It has no connection to the original designers of Wingspan. Let's be honest this is a ripoff of Wingspan, and from what I saw a poor ripoff
@@JacenDarkrider What are you talking about? It is literally exactly connected to the original wingspan designers. Elizabeth Hargrave is involved in both. It is under the same game company as well. So, how is this a rip off when the designer of Wingspan was actively involved in making Wyrmspan? The designer of Wingspan (Elizabeth Hargrave) is also the developer of Wyrmspan....
I REALLY appreciated the high resolution card graphics overlaid on screen. Makes it so much easier to see.
I we genuinely appreciate you appreciating them! We're big on trying to make content that's as easy to digest as possible, so glad that the visuals helped. I've consumed a lot of board game content over the years, and sometimes it's just difficult to understand what's going on with out some added graphics. 😁
I agree. Having those included were awesome!!!
30:56 That was a really good jump scare 😄 David!!!
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put together a playthrough of Wyrmspan! Looking forward to eventually getting thoughts from the whole MvM team!
We may do a group review the next time we’re all together. Thanks for watching!
Have recently bought Wyrmspan and I always do the teach for the family. Loved the video, it was really clear what you were doing and was amusing to watch your chemistry too. Looking forward to getting this to the table this afternoon. Thanks guys

Good catch. Playing so many board games, it's often one of the hardest things to remember--to replenish a display (or when to do so). 😅

We have a full live play of the game on the channel now too. It’s just missing Elisha. 😢

I like the overhead view, helps me see what's going on. Overlays are also a nice touch.
Super helpful and great close ups. It's gone from a game I wasnt bothered about to now wanting! I could have watched the full game!
iv been watching a lot of the wyrmspan videos that released today, and this has been my favroite to truly learn if I want this game (I do)
That’s so nice to hear. Thanks for taking the time to share that comment!
Love this game. I play solo and it is a great experience
Alicia needs to be in more episodes. She is awesome!
I’ll use this comment to help enlist her more often. 😁
I kinda liked Wingspan. I'm really liking what I'm seeing of Wyrspan. Going on the list.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the video! Great job!! I’m really interested in this one. I enjoyed playing Wingspan but it didn’t knock my socks off. Maybe this one will.
Like I mentioned, if you crave bigger turns, and stringing out more and more actions, this one has that in spades compared to Wingspan (IMO).
At what point was your board completely filled with dragons? Were you left with several turns after your board was full? I was under the assumption that it would be rare to fill your board.

Very nice video and explanations, but tbh you had me at "dragons" 👌
I don't have wingspan, but I will definitely buy this one, you convince me that I need this :D 🤓
Glad the gameplay helped. Let us know what you think once you get a chance to play.
If you move your guild marker twice during the same action, do you gain both benefits? For instance, you play a cave that says : Gain 2 guilds.
You do!
This looks tighter and more strategically challenging than Wingspan, which is a welcome "upgrade" for my game group. This video really got me excited to play Wyrmspan. Thanks!

Now I want some dragon butter. I bet it tastes smokey.
Ha! Please don't encourage her to keep calling it butter. 🤣 But yes, probably smokey--kind of like a buttery filet of beef. Now I'm just hungry.
The color mismatch/clash between the cave cards and the actual three zones in the game is insane to me. Why on earth did they think that is the way to go? You can place a yellow cave ANYWHERE? Why did they even bother giving them different colors? Should just stuck to black/white
Fair point, but that hasn’t been a problem for us when playing.
we call gold butter too!
You need to have your wife on more often. She is a hoot! Loved the game play by the way. Would have enjoyed watching the full game. I know there are time constraints, but still. 🙂
Yeah she was great!
Milk makes more sense with that butter resource.
Ha!
Nice video!

Dang David - you´ve got taste. Who should have known... ;)
Ha! What am I, chopped liver? 😂
gg
