I love this game!
As always impeccably done, thank you
It's the only game I have on my phone. Very clever!
Whenever a crime involves a child, it's harder to process.
Oh wow, can you imagine returning a child to abusive parents because they haven't paid for her care? I can't stop thinking about that moment; so much of her suffering came after that. Thanks for such a compelling Brief Case, I'm going to be thinking about Louisa for awhile.
the town has got blood on its hands
I'm more surprised anyone even intervened at all given the time period.
@@jokerz7936 I think that's part of what made me so sad watching it; It was such a pleasant surprise that the court did intervene. I had started thinking well of the community, then they sent her back home to hell.
I feel sorry for poor Louisa, being returned to the person who was abusing her. Her father was just as much to blame, in my opinion, for knowing about it and not stopping it.
He got off scot free, he had a big responsibility in this
In my view he was worse. His first obligation was to his daughter not his girlfriend/wife.
well true..but in those days with no money you'd still need someone to look after the children..he can't do it
Blame the father when he was the ONLY one who tried to protect his daughter.... men are always guilty when the female is the one who murders
@@orionxtc1119 If he had wanted to protect his daughter he had at least two options. Leave his wife or send his daughter away.
No tears for Frances Kidder. Poor little Louisa, after her mother's death, she was let down by everyone left in her life. But she's not forgotten and thanks to you telling us her story, she will be remembered a while longer still and by more people. Thank you!
Beautifully put Lucie 💜
It seems that abuse here was an equal opportunity proposition since Kidder was abused by her husband. It does not justify what happened to Louisa, but it seems like abuse was part of the dynamic in both her and her husband's family.
@@elizabethsohler6516 yeah so if she cliams that the abuse from her hubby was to blame why abuse the poor little girl and murder her with drugged up first then pushed over..cuz they said no marks of scratches etc etc..she would'v had marks trying to scrambled up rocks
That was a lovely tribute. RIP lil Louisa🥀.
And the father suffers nothing from all this considering it's his fault his daughter was even around this dreadful woman. Good lord, poor baby girl.
Agreed. If only she had been taken in by a loving family then maybe she wouldn’t have suffered the torment.
Always gotta find a way to blame the man, huh
Francis was the real victim, having been saddled with a terrible girl
Poor Louisa. Such a beautiful girl with a lovely face yet sad eyes. To think of the horrors she endured regularly at the hands of her stepmother & in her final moments is heartbreaking. So many people let Louisa down... most notably her own father who likely saw what was happening & didn't stop it.
The poor young girl, you can see the sadness in her eyes in the photo of her.
She looks like the teary eyed emoji
Yeah, you can see how unhappy she is, the poor thing. 😢
Is it her real photograph ?
@@thegreencat9947 I am doubtful.
@@Nith-t8h Very effective illustration for the story ...obviously. 🤔
Sigh. Poor Louisa.
What a sad, brief, life she lived 😔
The wicked stepmother isn't only confined to fairytales
Agreed, fairy tales definitely have the "based on a true story" vibe of made for tv movies.
Fr fr
Yeah, I know that first hand. My stepmother was trying to get me kicked out of the house before I had even graduated high-school. Mind you I’ve never done drugs, never even smoked, and never committed any crimes. In spite of that she treated me like I was a monster.
. . . and it doesn't appear that food or anything material was inadequate. She simply didn't wish to share the bounty with another child, even though she knew before they married that he had 2 other children. I don't feel sorry for her, but for her biological daughter - who could have enjoyed having a sister.
Indeed! I’ve never understood the inability of someone to not care for the blood of one they married. It’s a package deal, accept it or leave. The biological parent should insist upon it but sadly many don’t. May the precious, wee lass be in the loving arms of Jesus and getting the unconditional love she’s always wanted. 💔
How horrible. My step monster hated me and tourchered me anytime my dad wasn't there. Poor baby. So beautiful but her eyes look so sad. BC I so love you and thank you again for another awesome case!
Thanks Lisa, I hope things are better for you now
Heartbreaking story. Louisa didn't stand a chance. RIP Beautiful little girl🌹🌹🌹
If she had only treated Louisa with kindness she might have had a friend for life. She sure struck out. What a beautiful little girl who should have had a much better life. Your accent is so pleasant to listen to!
The title should be “the horrifying & tragic case of Louisa”. Thanks BC for another forgotten past case.
Step children are not always loved by their step parents. Sad.
Hi Crystal :)
@@BriefCaseOfficial Hello Mr. BriefCase. Are you going to check out the Eclipse? I'll be at work, so I'll peak out every now and then. A bit cloudy here, so not sure if we'll see anything.
The eclipse was nowhere near me but I did see pictures of it, I hope you saw it
Good Lord, it's just as much the husband's fault. Having children out of wedlock, not telling his bride-to-be, not keeping up his child-support payments, abusing his wife and then showing his character by consorting with her sister when Frances was in jail. Frances' father let her down by allowing such a bum to court his daughter; she was very young compared to that old creep. It really was a fast-track to doom the whole way around.
Previously working in a women's prison, it was amazing how many offenders had committed murder. Several had killed their child or a stepchild. It was hard not to be rude to those offenders.
I can never fathom these cases. How anyone could hurt a child, let alone a caregiver.
It goes against all logic, every code we have and even our own basic instincts.
But it's always there.
Happy Monday all... Thanks BC!!!
What’s wrong with you?!
The courts can be so tonedeaf as to solutions for real, everyday living problems.
Poor Louisa Kidder, to have started out life in such a positive way, then to become withdrawn and despondent and suffering constant abuse!
If only Louisa’s grandparents had taken her in as they did her sister….. So many people let this poor child down. Tragic indeed.
I live near Hythe. It's interesting to hear of this. Im pretty sure this kind of story was more common than we think. In the old east end of London where people lived in slums you cant begin to imagine what used to go on there. Child abuse in those days was very common.
Thanks Tania, it's always good to receive comments from people who live in the area :)
I work in Hythe and live in Folkestone. Fascinating to listen to this but so sad to hear for poor Louisa’s fate.
Hello Brief Case.
Excellent presentation as always. This case particularly hits home for me. I grew up with indifferent hateful step parents. I feel so so sad for this poor child who had to suffer at the hands of this lousy woman.
Poor little Louisa her eyes are crying for comfort and relief in her photo. It breaks my heart to hear what she went through. That poor innocent child was surely suffering and let down by society. The community who enabled this horrific tragedy is completely to blame and all have blood on their hands!! What a complete failure to protect the innocent child!
Louisa had a very difficult life-William was also horrible father and husband. Sad all the way around
What an incredibly sad story. The abuse of an innocent and helpless child takes a special kind of evil.
I adore the photos of landscapes you use in your cases... I truly feel as though I'm transported back in time to the exact place you're speaking about. Another brilliant post, thank you and cheers, BC! 👍🩷🩶🤍👍
Thanks Colleen :)
Definitely premeditated, why would she take her out for pleasantries, considering she hated her so much.
It certainly seems that way. The fact that she confessed to the chaplain right before her death that she had murdered the girl but that it was not premeditated, does make me question it a little bit. She knew she was about to die and meet her maker, why lie in that moment? Still, it does feel unlikely that this was not premeditated. Why would she take the girl out at all, especially after declining to go out with the others? It’s possible this outing was well intentioned, some sort of last ditch effort to bond with the girl, but then it went awry, but again I don’t find that very convincing. She had the girl change out of her nice new clothes and put on her old tattered ones, just like before. As if nothing had changed. That detail sticks with me while thinking about whether this was premeditated or not. The question remains though, of why did she lie to the chaplain right as she faced death? Denial? A desire so strong to appear as less of a monster that she would rather lie?
@@GreenTT-l1l I think she was quite possibly insane. The accident and the marital abuse would have added to that. The fact that she made the child change out of good clothes into worn ones, suggests to me that she intended o save the good dress for her Own daughter! Her behaviour on returning home was odd. None of it is the behaviour of a rational person. A rational person. especially a 'wicked' one would know that there wouldbe No Chance of getting away with it. She might as well have killed her in the living room and saved herself a soaking.
As always a brilliant narration and an compelling story. Enjoy your channel immensely! I find it sad when there is so much emphasis on the accused and what may have caused her to commit such a heinous crime, when it's the victim that deserves our sympathy. The little suffered abuse from her stepmother for years and had her short life taken from her by a monster. Frances got what she most likely deserved. However, yet another tale without a happy ending! Keep up the good work, BC!
Thankyou :)
I was waiting for you. .I was reading the news on my phone and immediately clicked for you. Plus I was binging and rewatching on some of your older ones over the weekend
Thankyou, that is appreciated :)
My Monday morning is not right until I listen to Brief Case
Is this the reason why stepmothers are viewed in a negative light aside from Disney films portraying them as monsters?
The tales those movies are based on existed long before Disney and were significantly sanitized by them.
I think some of it even goes back to people still having some of the instincts of our more distant ancestors. Typically, when a new male takes over a group of chimpanzees he may well kill the young chimps, because they're not his progeny. I suspect there is an unconscious element of this when step parents (both male and female) give their step children a hard time. I am hoping we are moving past that.
lol, the real ones I have met are like that! Although...the stepdaughters were pretty awful to them
DISNEY is incredibly evil itself.
They push many wicked evil agendas
Poor little Louisa, failed by every adult who was meant to protect and love her. The only people who knew the story are dead. Such a sad tale BC, thank you for remembering her.
Wow. My grandmother was born in Folkston; Folkston, GA.
I think at that time when even your own family is against you in favour of an illegitimate child that is not even related to them, you know you're doomed.
Really interesting case, I really liked the Maidstone prison photo, the outside still looks the same nowadays although I guess the inside is different. Great case BC, I really enjoyed that case.
Thanks Crimey :)
My two faves!!
The inside will be the same , but toilets will have been added to the cells and many , many coats of paint to the walls and ceilings over the decades .
Why wasnt the father held accountable?
It doesn't seem right since he knew about the abuse.
I can't believe the jury convicted her in only 12 minutes.
Swift justice for a killer.
Thank you for another great story, Brief Case.
You never disappoint! 😊
And what about the abuse he inflicted on his wife?! He definitely should've been held accountable for that and not even paying for child support. Mr. Kidder definitely doesn't sound like a decent human being.
You are looking at this from a modern perspective. Things were very different back then. Men were allowed to “discipline” their wives and children and child support wasn’t thought of back then , not the way we think of it.
@@civillady13 Are you replying to me or Lisa-hc3uq? Men were only allowed to beat their wives because the law allowed it! Louisa was sent back to him because he wasn't paying child support and he was a potato merchant! I mean seriously, are you standing up for this miscreant?!! Things were different but it sure doesn't make it acceptable! I cannot believe what I'm hearing. And we don't hang people anymore because it isn't humane. Frances definitely didn't deserve that brutal end to her life. I cannot believe I am arguing with a so-called "civillady". Wow!
It's heart breaking that Louisa was returned to such an abusive situation and ultimately resulted in her murder. The level of hate Frances must have harboured against poor Louisa is something I can not begin to comprehend. Sickeningly we still hear of similar cases today. RIP little Louisa.
I never understood how a grown adult, man or woman could be cruel to an innocent child. 😢
I'm frankly surprised our ancestors survived Victorian times
What a wicked woman to consistently abuse her husband's lovely daughter ! My heart is happy she went to The Gallows ! 🙏
And what did this so called father do to try and stop it ?

I enjoy your channel so much. Always respectful, great narration, researched and interesting. Now, onto video!
Thank you very much!
I seriously wonder how many of the crimes you cover wouldn't have happened if single women with children weren't so stigmatized
Yes!
Actually, I think if you ensured that low paid workers (like William) received an adequate income, if single mothers weren't so stigmatised, if contraception, abortion and no fault divorce are all readily available you can cut the murder rate down significantly.
But, for some, their idea of "morality" is much more important than the actual morality of reducing the murder rate and making people's lives better.
Being a single mother is not good. It damages children and society.
It may have been somewhat better for some with support. But there were single mothers who still loved their children and did not abuse them throughout the hardships the family endured. It takes a special kind of evil selflessness to abuse people, especially children. It sounds like something that was already inside this woman to do.
@@resourcedragon-Actually since most of these things have been made available, child abuse rates have soared! And, whether you’re aware of facts or not, no fault divorce isn’t a friend to women!
Yep@@winifredherman4214
If it’s Monday it must be BC. Thanks again. Mid 19th century.
Fantastic Brief Case makes my Monday's magical ☘️🫠
Hi!!! This was a good story today. I dont know how anyone could hurt a child. She had to have such a wicked mind. So...very sad. Nice Video...🇺🇸🦋
The child's eyes haunt me. Poor little thing. A pig for a father and a nightmare of a stepmother. 😔
Frances was a depraved soulless woman for putting little Louisa through horrific abuse and eventually killing her.
Hmmmmmmmm the story is horrible 😳thanks sir amazing effort very nice explanations 👌👍👌👍GOD bless you n protect you always all the best 👍👌👍❤❤❤❤
What a sad mess. Though I wonder what came first. Did Mr K start to mistreat F after that she'd already mistreated L, or is it possible that Mr K mistreated his wife from the start, and being "kicked" herself, F decided to "kick" someone smaller than her = her step-daughter L? It's wrong either way of course.
Not to mention how wrong it was that the step-daughter L actually got taken away by court, only to be sent back to her abuser. After that her father for the 2nd time in his daughter's life, failed to pay for her to live with someone else. But he also had another child from before his marriage to F, which lived with another family. Did he fail to pay for the other child as well, but that family was still able to keep the child, or did he actually pay for the other, and only failed to pay when it came to L?
It's easy to just label F as an evil step-mother, and maybe that's all it was, but it's also possible that there was a whole lot more to this story.
Louisa look so sad in her photo. What a pretty girl ❤️🙏🌹
This guy is so good at telling these tragedies, i can’t watch any content creators because of him. I normally never liked the up north accent, but this guy is just perfection. I first saw his channel in 2020 when I was in Spain, and then when I was in Canada.

What a horrible life Louisa had to endure at the hands of her dreadful stepmother,so many people knew about the abuse and yet none of them did anything to stop it.
Whether or not she killed the child, based on the horrible abuse she inflicted on the child… She received an appropriate punishment

I did not see that coming. She didn't give a reason as to why she killed her stepchild. If she hated the child, she should have done whatever to pay someone to watch her. Sad. I wonder did she kill the child to hurt her husband 🤔. Everyone stay safe. ✌️ BC good one. 👍
Thankyou :)
A truly tragic story. The story could have taken place today. Neighbors and acquaintances turned a blind eye to the abuse happening in the home. We still have this happen today. The father should have been arrested too. He knew exactly what was going on in his house and abused the mother and most likely the children.
