@@mr.alphabet1918 I'm assuming you're asking if it's possible to max out throw moves? That's actually a really good question. From my experience, it’s almost impossible to max them out in Shenmue I, even if you set up training to “throws only” and use them in every given situation. This is exactly what I did when I created the save file I use for the speedrun, and as you can see from the video at 0:28, the move proficiency bar is still far from full... This is not the case for Shenmue II, where it’s generally easier (but still tedious) to train throw moves as there are more FREE battles and repeatable fights you can “farm”. If “cheating” isn’t a problem for you, you can mod your PC save files and manually max out all throw moves, thanks to BtEtta’s save editor. I did that a couple of years ago and it worked great. From my tests, they seem to stop getting stronger at a certain point during training. If you train them up to 55/70%, they will have reached their maximum damage output.
This is why I loved Shenmue Not only for the story, but every single man that you fought has different clothes, hair etc. Not just 5 same npc, 70 different
@@marianoancos4434 I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean if it’d be possible to make QTE moves work in FREE battle? In that case, the answer is most likely no, as I suspect those animations come from an area that’s completely unrelated to the combat system and therefore, can’t be forced to work in FREE battle mode.
Yup, that is absolutely insane. The game was so ahead of its time, it took years before other companies were able to incorporate just some of the mechanics first found in Shenmue. Even now, almost 23 years later, there's arguably no other game like it.
This part was mindblowing to me as kid, looking back now I forgot JUST how fragile most of the enemies are . Number 12 dies from having a barrel rolled into him from 10 feet away 😂. Even if this is now obsolete, still nice work!
Thanks buddy! As a guy who only first played the series in 2018 with the HD remasters, the 70 Man Battle blew my mind and really ignited my love for the OG combat system. Most enemies have indeed very low health and go down in one shot, even when using Ryo’s weakest moves, while others have slightly more health and only select moves will take them out in one blow. This is all stuff I take into account when doing time trials. The barrel/crate strategy is something I’m not sure the developers intended, as it always does the same damage (albeit very low) no matter how slow it’s going, but it's always a blast when you get it to work! Too bad these interactive objects only appear in a couple of places and then disappear entirely from the series...
Thanks buddy, that’s also one of my favorite parts, as it’s very rare for the Elbow Assault to hit Pedro during his Drop Kick attempts. Usually it either misses or you get hit before you have the chance to go for it. That’s one of the reasons I’m still fond of this run all this time later. ❤

@@TuskaChannel1.7B1weeksago Nice, good luck with your attempts! Sub 3 minutes is the first main milestone you want to aim for. Once you achieve that goal, it will get progressively harder and harder to save seconds, due to how random the fights can be at times. In my 2:33.70 run, I start with Cyclone Kick, followed by Big Wheel (trained), then Cyclone Kick again, then I go for Tiger Storm but it fails (Ryo performs a grab attempt instead) as my alignment was incorrect. From there, it’s all improv, trying to deal damage to Pedro and getting rid of the other guys, while waiting for another opening for the Wall Glitch. Normally, I’d start with Cyclone Kick, then Dark Moon (trained), then either go for Tiger Storm if alignment is correct and glitch chance is high, or use other moves while waiting for a better opening. However, the final fight against Pedro is not as simple as I make it out to be. It’s important to know Pedro can dodge or block whenever he feels like it, and he can even attack you before you have the chance to use Cyclone Kick, meaning it’s completely random whether the strategy will work, hence why getting a record has become so hard. Let me know if you need any help learning the strategies, like the Demon Drop spam, or the Wall Glitch. 🧐
Pedro's "BUKKOROSHITEYARU" is a line forever embedded into my mind, though I will say "I'LL KILL YOU" is equally as iconic! It's also one of the only two lines of dialogue he has in the whole game, the other being "You need help?" during the Tony and Smith QTE chase. 🤣
That’s because I’m using Flycast via Retroarch. it’s much more lightweight compared to Demul and it comes with a save state feature. No fancy 4k internal resolution though, but it’s not like it matters for a 20+ years old game anyway. 😂
