excellent video, bud. thanks. finally found a chanel where the host actually does things right, and explains EVEYTHING in detail. good lighting, and video quality. hard to find that combination these days, with the high volume of ordinary joes posting every little thing they do, just so they have more content. thanks for opting for quality, over quantity. thats how you get likes and subs. lol ...liked, and subscribed
Thank you so much for the kind words, feedback, and support. I really appreciate it! Comments like yours definitely keep me going and I'm certainly not the type of post some random nonsense or clickbait stuff.
I'm having the same issue with my vehicle but instead of sanding down the clearcoat i used automotive body tape(really sticky stuff) and laid it on the clearcoat then peeled back and it took all of the clearcoat off like you did on the fender. Saved me some sanding time.
Nice job! Got nearly the same color maroon on 15 year old Toyota Scion. Peeling on all the horizontal surfaces. If I repair I'm going go the simple route and simply put matte black on. But thanks for the tips.
@@4DIYers I'm learning was never good at metallics have minimum tools no compressor just using rattle cans and trying to blend in paint where clearxoat has pealed on a section
Remember guys to remove a little bit the glue of the tape before mask the side panels as hood and door in this very helpful video to avoid peeling in those panels, it happens sometimes, as he explain it on the fender panel🤔
i left primer for an hour and it peels up when sanding. would definitely recommend leaving for a few hours just to be safe. although it is pretty humid right now so im sure thats keeping it wet longer. sucks though cuz now it looks like shit as there is different heights to the paint and now im worried to even try sanding it flat again...
Sounds like it's either too thick, a poor quality primer, or improperly prepped surface. My advice would be to let the primer cure, sand the area, and hit it again with primer. Use something of a better quality if you're not already, make sure the area is clean, and allow more time in between coats.
@@4DIYers Got it figured out, think it had to do with the humidity. Should of left it longer between coats because of it but justfigured i would do it the same way i did my other fender when it wasn't so humid but it didnt work out the same way.
Would 1 can of paint and clear coat be enough for a fender and door on a mk4 vw jetta? It's already has primer where the damage was so it's not a brand new door and fender.
Where did you get that Tacoma from? It looks exactly like one that I looked at buying a few years ago and it was obvious it had a respray. Not too many of those Limiteds out there in that generation of Tacoma!
Varnish remover will strip the clear coat right off like a wet napkin while leaving the paint untouched.. respray clear and you have brand new paint job.. ive never understood why people sand the clear off and risk damaging the paint ! They literally make strippers just for clear coat stripping.. maybe because people dont realize that clear coat is varnish ? Idk
@@4DIYers Thanks for answer: So basically I have to sandpaper (1000 grit perhaps) off the 1K clear coat and that would be enough? Or do I have to sand paper the car color off as well before applying new car color (1K or 2K?) and last the 2K clear coat? I have made a mess with my Saab 95 :-(
You might be lucky and get away with sanding off the clear coat but it'll be tough as you may not evenly sand the base coat and have patches. It's a real mess when you have to clean off paint that hasn't dried. I had a place sell me the wrong paint years ago and it never dried.
There's no other way of repairing failing clear coat. You can't just spray clear over top, otherwise you'll be left with a terrible look and it'll fail again.

I never knew you can paint in the winter.Good job thanks for the lesson's
Thank you! It’s tough to paint in the winter but possibly. The paint runs easier and you have to worry about moisture.

Should I use primer if I have a clear coat transition line? You can kinda feel it but not really.
Excellent

Do you happen to remember where you got the spray pain base color?
Sherwin Williams in London, Ontario, their automotive store.

Awesome video ! Hey bud on the fender top fading area did you start with a 180 or just a 320 to get it to the metal ?
Thank you! 320 grit on the faded area as well.

Thanks for using proper PPF. Too many raw dog it
What was the brand of the 1k clear coat you used on the fender flare? Or can it be any 1K clear coat brand?
Why did you not wet sand until you remove the clear then add paint and clear.
Great job! Can I get the color name and where can I buy it please thany

I'll have to give that a try. I have quite a few friends who work in the auto body industry and this is the first time hearing about your method.
You can do his way or strip it doesn’t matter imo.
Anyone knows if a 2 component clear coat can be applied on a 1 component clear coat that was applied a week before?
NOPE, you'll have a chemical reaction and one big mess to clean up.
