@ Anna Dawn: The Gurkhas well-deserve their legendary reputation for ferocity. Sorry, I can't recall the man's name, but some years ago, I read a story about a Gurkha NCO who had retired and was on his way home aboard a train someplace in Asia. As fate would have it, a gang of terrorists boarded and took over the train. The now-retired soldier remained silent and did nothing until the bad guys killed an innocent bystander. He then swung into action with his Kurkri knife and single-handledly took out so many of the criminals that they were compelled to surrender. One man against an entire train of bad guys - and the Gurkha won. Afterward, he dismissed talk of heroism, saying he had only done what any decent man would have done.
My Father was in Africa during WWII. He told me of stories of the British gurkha. He said they would be gone for 3 to 4 days and come back with German soldiers ears. He said they were absolutely courageous and brave. he said they never would draw their blades in camp, only against the enemy because each man viewed their knives as being sacred.
We don't take out our kukris except for animal sacrifice and fight to kill....in case we take out kukris out for any other reason then we run our thumb down its edge do make the blood touch the kukris....just to satiate the blades thirst for blood....same tradition can be found in the rajputs warriors of India and their talwars!!!
My father told me about the Gurkhas he saw when he was in the desert in WW2. They had their own camp a little way away from the main camp, and they would go out on patrol at night. They would return next morning covered in blood. Jerry was scared shirtless of the Gurkhas. Totally silent and efficient killers. Jerry only knew they'd been there when they found the bodies. Total respect, and yes, we should treat them better than we do.

i remember my dad telling me stories about his dad in the war, that they would be in the jungle and out of nowhere someone would whisper something like "you're safe", a voice from a Gurkha who would sneak up behind you and feel the laces on your boots to determine if you were an enemy or not, then if you were an ally, let you know you weren't going to die right there.
My dad was a Chindit and served with them in Burma. They marched for 400 miles from India, with pack mules, across two mountain ranges to attack the Japanese inland. The Chindits were not allowed to carry shaving kit as it was considered extra weight. There was a Brigade of Gurkhas and a Brigade of Chindits which suddenly appeared from the jungle. With their battle cry" Ayo Kurkhari!!" and their Kukri knives drawn, they terrified the Japanese. They had not seen Chindits with full beards either which frightened them as well. The Chindits were trained in silent killing. They all dispatched a large number of the enemy. To have the Gurkhas on your side ensured victory. Throughout his long life dad never forgot them and said that they could not have done without the Gurkhas. I was recently at a Gurkha Trust evening and had the honour of meeting them. I passed on what dad said to a Gurkha Captain. He took it as a compliment.
@@davidwhyberd7612 The war cry is "Jai Mahakali Aayo Gorkhali". The Indian Army has a Gorkha contingent. @Eric Gill Well the American revolution was fought by British subjects against the red coats who were mostly German mercenaries with a King who could only speak German. I put that down as a British win. 1812. No idea. In WWI the US arrived late. Would not listen to anyone and got royally slaughtered to begin with. Really heavy casualties. WW2. Very late again. When in Europe US units seemed to go wild with looting. Especially in Italy where local Mafias were related to US troops. OK the Russians also looted everything in sight and have never given anything back to this day.
I have a staggering amount of respect for these men, their culture, and their knives. (The real knives, not the Tourist market garbage we get in my neck of the woods.) Having said that.... this display is incredibly undignified. They're dancing around like Artistic performers high on magic mushrooms at the Burning Man festival.
I hung out with these dudes in Afghanistan on Camp Bastion. Complete gentlemen, great senses of humor and always willing to have a knife throwing contest. Still have the kukri I traded my kabar & benchmade knives for.
British Officers are told not to shout at Gurkha soldiers, it has a tendency just to make them laugh, which pisses the officer off. There is no need to shout, a polite request is all that is necessary. If you watch a Gurkha parade, no shouting, no need. I am honoured to have Gurkha friends. I'm a climber, met them in Nepal.
When I first started watching this I chuckled at all the prancing... then I remembered who I was laughing at and shut the fuck up. Yup, their dance looked funny at first, and then I thought about what all the knife flourishes represented, and, more importantly, WHO was doing this. These guys are NO joke.
Just fantastic!I love these fellas .Look how they handle the legendary kukri ,it’s just poetry in motion. As an Englishman I feel very privileged to have these men as life long friends and allies. You’d be pushed to find more braver and loyal soldiers as these fine men.Salutes!
The Gurkhas also serve in the Singapore army, years ago I was walking from my hotel going to the shops there’s a beautiful old mansion in the sidestreet that I was looking at looking at the trellis work around the Veranda a home owned by an X prime minister of Singapore ,in between the trees I noticed two soldiers both of them were Gurkhas they were guarding the house, I would hate to try and break into that house.
Just so impressive! Esprit de corps, plus! I love the tradition of nicking oneself prior to using the fearsome blade against the enemy. I have read a book on the Gurkhas and are just nothing short of amazing.
One may "laugh" of this display, Just know that the Royal Army hold and treat them as brothers-in-arms. THe most fearless, efficient and sheer determination/willpower and fight capable army in the world.
In ww2 the Japanese were terrified of these lads. Legend has it the Gurkha's would literally move through the jungles on their stomachs when the Japanese were about, sneak right upto them and check which way the boots were laced. If they were crisscrossed then up they got behind you and sliced your neck open.
If you served in the british army you more than likely ran into a few here and there. They unfortunately get some pretty shitty jobs scattered around alot of bases.
I had the honour of helping quite a few of them to the front lines in Helmand. And heard some pretty bad ass things about them. never fought alongside them though
To me, they look like highly refined and disciplined fighters of the highest and most respected kind. Don't forget that professional football players often take Ballet lessons. There's a lot of value in being well choreographed. No matter what they look like to you, their history and reputation have earned them tremendous respect. We have a lot to learn from them. Humble yourself and benefit from their demonstration. They have a lot to offer if you allow yourself to understand that.

Yes it's a very old culture of Nepalese(Gorkhali/gorkhas) army .... . The song is (lahure ko relimai fashionai ramro)which is about 70/80years old..and the dance ritual is prevalent in Nepal from many centuries centering the Gorkha kingdom(now a district) of Nepal which expanded to form Nepal😊

I stood watch with a Gurkha in Bahrain, we chatted for 4 hours. Super friendly guy. I really didn’t know what a Gurkha was, damn if I didn’t get a chill after reading about them on Wikipedia. Glad I’m nice to everyone by default
Oh my I did laugh when I read your post, "prancing around like fairies" try saying that to a Gurkha, your head will be removed from your body faster than you can blink, their motto is "better to die than to be a coward" and that is how they fight, I suggest you read some history about them also should you be here in the UK do NOT make any derogatory remarks to a Brit about them, I guarantee you will be sorry, we are proud and honoured they fight for us and they are very much respected.
My dad who was in the cameronian regiment, served along side the Gurkha's in Singapore, many a story he told me about them being fearless fighting warriors, but when they had time of they were the loveliest chaps out, my dad always said the best things came in small packages, including poison and dynamite, and these boys were dynamite when they started, to commemorate serving with them some of the boys got the tattoo of their regiment done with the kuckrie knives on each side.
Excellent. I have worked with these guys in the past and they are very loyal, brave and high speed low drag. They can fuck you up with the quickness with that blade.

i wish my country was rich enough to stop these awesome lads from going to fight for other countries....i salute these gallant Gurkha warriors ...
Lahurey ko relimai fashionai ramro .. ho ki haina .. ho ho hoo !!! 👏👏👏
I would NEVER, EVER want to be on the receiving end of a Gurkhas charge. So glad they're in British Army. Bless you men, you are fearsome warriors.
i remember my dad telling me stories about his dad in the war, that they would be in the jungle and out of nowhere someone would whisper something like "you're safe", a voice from a Gurkha who would sneak up behind you and feel the laces on your boots to determine if you were an enemy or not, then if you were an ally, let you know you weren't going to die right there.
The Legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw had once said :
"If a person says he is not afraid to die then either he is lying or he is a Gorkha"
Indians are blessed to have great warrior regiments such as Sikh, Maratha, Rajputana and Gorkha.
Natural soldiers who are brilliant people. Fearsome warriors who are not to be messed with. Huge respect to them! Their country is stunning too and one day I will return to beautiful Nepal.
I must say that they really are good dancers. Don't take that the wrong way. I respect hell out of the Gurkhas.
Im from the bravest country in the world
the motherland of the brave gorkhas
Jay Nepal
Bravest & KIND-HEARTED NATION is Nepal
Love from Uttarakhand ❤️
well I'm in a marching band and not only am i inspired by the bravery of the Gurkha warriors in combat but i really gotta admit that they're really good musicians!!
They showed all the moves with the Khukri, cutting, slashing, jabbing, thrusting, sparring, and slaughtering.
If a man says he is not afraid of dying he is either lying or is a gurkha.
Reichsflugscheibenchemtrailpilot der NWO is a good name for an idiot.
Samurai
juat because they are wielding fancy ass curved impractical knifes? hell no
If he days he would die for you....
He IS a Gurkha.
Birthdaycard pish...
Khukri--One of the deadliest weapon(Knife) ever....... Jai Gorkha...!!
If the weapon was deadly, every army would use it.
Khukuri is not the deadliest.
A Gurkha holding a Khukuri is the deadliest weapon in the world.
Bravest and most Honorable men in the British Army.
Don't forget the Sikhs!
Gurkha clear!!
Greatest respect from the U.K.
Laure ko relimai fashion nai ramro rato rumal relimai khukuri bhireko.

Red scarf and khukuri on his side.
Don't mess with them, not even the bandsmen!
we have gurkhas in my country. we appreciate and admire them for what they have been doing for us.we are proud of them. step out of your third world mindset and learn to respect people.if someday your children saw what you wrote, im sure they will be ashamed to have a dad like you.
When god finds something to be impossible, the British do it. when the British find something to be impossible, the Gurkhas do it.
@Eric Gill .GURKAS FOUGHT IN BOTH WORLD WAR WINNING THE MOST VICTORIA CROSS .

Gotta love it! Gurkha's are legendary. True professionals.
The Gurkhas are warriors who will of proud to have on our side🇬🇧🤝🏻🇳🇵
respect, deserve full military pensions (shame on Britain for taking so long)
You want them to be on your side during any conflict, and never be on other side.
Utmost respect to Gurkhas Soldiers.
Respect to true warriors, we are honoured to have these men.
I hung out with these dudes in Afghanistan on Camp Bastion. Complete gentlemen, great senses of humor and always willing to have a knife throwing contest. Still have the kukri I traded my kabar & benchmade knives for.
agreed. they're ready to die soldier. the gurkha regiment was sent every battlefield mostly during ww2. respect!
Well, they look a bit odd, but hey, I'd like these dancing guys to be beside me anywhere and all time. Full respect for the G dudes!
in the U.K . we love the Gurkhas
Gurkas are awesome soldiers and extremely loyal to good officers. I would deploy with them at any time.
Great to see beautiful Kukri & Khukri dance in the hand of these brave soldiers.
There seems to be a few people commenting here that talk as if they served with the Gurkhas or fought them at some point. Somehow I doubt many have.
Nothing bad about it.
The Gurkha regiments are still operating now a days so it is likely that may have served along side them. Just saying. ☺
If you served in the british army you more than likely ran into a few here and there. They unfortunately get some pretty shitty jobs scattered around alot of bases.
I had the honour of helping quite a few of them to the front lines in Helmand. And heard some pretty bad ass things about them. never fought alongside them though
no. gurkhas are soldiers -- not murderers. They have served the Crown well -- with dignity and honor.
we are Gorkhas .
proud to be
+Peter ..he spelt it right mate.. n u better believe it..!!
actually it is gorkhali... mr peter google it ;)
And we are proud to be your friends.
And as an ex serviceman, I can tell you we are proud to have you as our brothers in arms. And damned thankful.
My Dad is a Korean War veteran and he greatly admires the Gurkha Regiment, one of the most feared in the world.
The best Guerilla warfare personnel in the world. I salute you guys & girls. :)
My grand father too was an Army fought during WWII against JAPAN.but finally no any gain quarelling each other. Human is the most harmful creature and reason to destroy our land Earth directly or indirectly affecting to the environment Finally Nothing is better than love and peace.
Is the music and the dance part of their traditional culture?
Yes it's a very old culture of Nepalese(Gorkhali/gorkhas) army .... . The song is (lahure ko relimai fashionai ramro)which is about 70/80years old..and the dance ritual is prevalent in Nepal from many centuries centering the Gorkha kingdom(now a district) of Nepal which expanded to form Nepal😊
One of the britsh soldier on his memories: i never saw more bravery exibited in my life, run they wouldnt and death they seemed to havxe no fear though their comrades falling thick around them
I knew many Gurkhas when I was in the British Army and would be proud to call all of them fellow countrymen. They've never let us down, time to return the favour.
pride of the British army very loyal good bless the people of Nepal
These are some of the most fearsome warriors on the planet. . . Just doing a little dance number with their little knives 😂😂
I love their knives.. they weigh so much though, yet these guys handle them like butter knives
I'm just commenting to let you know that you put a comment here 8 years ago.

Whoa?
It used to be like that, some decades back. Normal gurkhas are normal, gorkha soldiers are same like Sikh, Jat, rajputana soldiers etc.
Didn't they help end the battle for Monte Casino , Italy ??
Excellent. I have worked with these guys in the past and they are very loyal, brave and high speed low drag. They can fuck you up with the quickness with that blade.
Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱 we respect this brave soldiers
Our neighbors the Argies never forgot them after the Falkland war
Yeah my aim to be british gurkha .love from Nepal
I pray and hope Gurkha and India are brothers for life. China is trying its best to create a rift though. Proud of Gurkhas. JAI Maa kali
@Atlantic Pacific Thts your perception of gurkha warrior not India's.India always treats A warrior with utmost respect and Gorkha are not only a warrior but also friends and brother. We are more similar than what u thinks.Even our PM calls himself a 'Chowkidaar' which means one who protect. The scuffle between govt of India and Nepal is due to Communist party Of nepal but not with its ppl.So stop spreading hatred. You'll see some good news regading this very soon.😊 Peace Out
@Atlantic Pacific In that case I wouldn't be writing poems about Gorkhalis. Indians love Nepalese and vice versa. You may not have got the right information we have roti beti relationship. Agree, some people may have done wrong but fact is India and Nepalese are as per history born from same clan.
@Atlantic Pacific Even Many Nepalis makes song insulting India.
@Atlantic Pacific My fav teacher is from Nepal,I have 3 frnds who are from nepal they never criticise india in regards to descrimination.Even We have one regiment of gorkha warriors.
@Atlantic Pacific yah bro we are proud of gorkaha but for your kind information I have to inform you that india spend 12 billion USD annually on these brave gorkaha, check out if I am wrong, India provides pension to them how could you say that ,waiting for your good reply
By the way they checked the laces were crisscrossed because apparently thats how the Japanese laced their boots. The allies did it straight across.
salute to gurkha armies who had been sucess to take place on world and to make scare to all the troops of world.
I've grown up with Gurkhas. They're the most cutest and friendliest people ever. Yet the most ferocious.
Gurkhas are the best and my favourite and inspirational soldiers
Well done gorkhali, proud of you. Nepal is a brotherly nation, small but brave and nice, keep it up.
Jay Ma Kali :) Love from India.
Mad respect for the skill and performance. I used to drill in high school with demilitarized rifles. That's why I have mad respect for their performance. That stuff takes endurance and precision. Plus the music was very good!
They have more right to live in it than I do and I'm a native!
I love the Gurkhas,Genuine quite honourable, polite men(until you piss them off lol) ,very smart, in my day out of uniform you'd never see them not wearing a shirt and tie, even on the few occasions you saw them drinking, have alot of respect for these soldiers
kukri" in our province is a part of our daily lives" we use it for cutting the flower of the coconut tree for making tuba"( a local red wine that made from coconut)..
but trully it is very effective specially in cuttings..
its really is sharp"..
why am i saying that?
because' that what im using when im cutting my beard..
like today... 😊😝
I have a few Gurkha friends, very loyal, trustworthy and kind hearted...
