Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Spriggan, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Macross: DYRL, the list goes on. The new generation cannot fathom that we can never get animation like this ever again.

Just saw this movie in full for the first time! The praise it gets is seriously so deserved. The sci-fi/space western meshes so well with the gothic vampire story, and I don’t think I’ve seen very many animated films feel so gorgeously, lovingly crafted every step of the way how this one was. Definitely one to be rewatched. Thanks for the upload!
The term you’re looking for is “Baroque”. I’d even go so far as to say “gaudy” in advanced decay in some parts. But, yes; most definitely beautiful and even timeless.
As much as I love the 1985 OVA, I must say that this is a sequel thats superior in ever way possible. A masterpiece in the same caliber as Akira, Space Adventure Cobra The Movie, Princess Mononoke, Ninja Scroll, Berserk The Golden Age Trilogy etc.

....wow...2020 now...wow... 2014, he death was announced, his son and wife, mourned, his wife died soon after, Ben went into a Deep Depression and didn't do a film till Walter Mitty, where he had definitely aged, stressed and shown high signs of losing his father, even when I attended the film and clips were shown on RUclips, everyone commented how his dad died, then his Mom and he had shown the signs of deep depression... Then, 2018, they announced again, Jerry Stiller died and Ben Stiller, did not confirm it, it only showed old pictures of Ben and Jerry having fun... 2020 eh... Think I just opened a new reality for you

The book is Vampire Hunter D Volume 3 if any would like to listen or read it. Audible has great audio adaptations of Volumes 1-16 out of the 43 Volumes created thus far.

Even though the story is set 1000s of years in the future, it references the most ancient legends of Dracula and vampires originating from the Balkans and/or Austro Hungarian Empire.
The original story of Camilla the Vampire is set in Styria /Austria afaik. Also, the name Meier Link....according to Wiki it derives from Mayerling. Mayerling was the place where Crown-Prince Rudolf (heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne) and his lover committed double suicide. He was not allowed to wed her as she was deemed not suitable, hence they resorted to this final escape in order to be together in death at least.

The Director gave the movie a more beautiful ending than Hideyuki Kikuchi and Yoshitaka Amano wrote in the book. I enjoyed it :)
