December 2022 I rode here for the first time. Ive ridden in Fernie, Revelstoke and Valemount and I still considered West Yellowstone to be the most exhilarating spot ive ever been. The Snow was something else. Thought I had seen a lot and West Yellowstone was legitimately the best place Ive ever taken a sled. Wife and I are coming back this year hopefully!!!!!

That sounds amazing. Im a novice rider thinking about a solo trip here. Thought maybe a guided tour of west yellow stone then renting one of the quicker snowmobiles and hitting a trail on two tops might be a move. But im not sure if its safe to do that alone. 😅

I first rode a snowmobile in West Yellowstone Montana in Nov 1975.
My boss Walt who owned the round up motel(I think)let me rent a blue snowmobile jet.
    It was amazing.
This was back in the days when Hamms Cafe was the center of community for West Yellowstone. Telford (Brownie)Brown owned Hamms then.
I loved that ornery old man.

Hey there, was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me out with a question or two. Would appreciate it :) I'm on East coast lifetime snowmobiler who moved West. I love scenic riding but have snowmobiled in Old Forge NY most of my life where there's really spirited trail riding (with my last machine being an 800 sized machine). Does that exist in Yellowstone?

I sure miss West. I was 1st there in July 1975 -June 2976.
I came again on the day Brownie left West for good. I had one last Hamburger on Brownie after loading his truck for him I spent that summer working at Rustlers Roost for Vern.

Sorry to be the one to enlighten you, but the park was NEVER a free for all. I have been riding there for 35 years and the fine for taking your snowmobile off the groomed trail has been $1000 for as long as I can remember. BTW the "groomed trails" in the park are the paved highways that millions of people use in the summer. Just to be clear, the only place we have ever been able to ride in the park is on the PAVED HIGHWAYS!!!
