This skit isn't actually mocking women, it's mocking the way men used to view women in those olden days.
English comedy at it's finest. Harry Enfield & Chums was an amazing sketch show 🤣
Paul Whitehouse was Welsh. Half the cast were Scottish.
@@mixodorians12paul Whitehouse was a cockney and theres no such place as wales...its callled birminghams car park
🤣@@TheZumph
@@mixodorians12Absolute rubbish. This show is English 🏴
I love watching Americans sweat reacting to UK humour 😂
I like the idea they think it is real lol
Everyone should be sweating: letting a woman express such foolish opinions is not only dangerous, it's also harmful to the young generations !
Did you know that now, some women think they are entitled to vote ?
they for real dont get it
I don't care who reacts to it as long as they get who the target of the joke is. The amount of people i've seen react to this on here or in person get offended thinking it's taking the piss out of women, when it's taking the mick out of those who had those views lol
Yes. Watching Americans being incapable of grasping our sense of humour is one of the great pleasures of the internet.
It’s a parody, of 1950’s public information films.
And taking the piss out of men’s thinking at the time.
And Right wing thinking right now..
See Mogg/Boris/MAGA/etc..
Heck we even had a lawsuit VERY recently where an EX FAILED PRESIDENT under deposition - said on camera... Well.. it wasnt too far from this.
1930s not 1950s.

@@Payne2view40s and 50s as well. Check out pathe films how to be a secretary from 1944
Don't be shocked and appalled... It was funny. Comedy and humour are subjective, and in the 90's, everyone understood that
In Europe people still understand that. ;)
This is one of my all time favourite sketches. And yes. I'm a woman.
A Woman with a good sense of humour,I might add:)
You sweet little thing, I adore you xx.
@@captricharddee3634 🤣👍
I don’t know anything about comedy, but I do like sweet little puppies 😂
How pretty and delightful of you, you frágile little thing. You clearly know your limits. You have let your natural sweetness shine through.
All the educational films they did are gold
This was a comedic parody of what was perceived as English upper classes in the 20's, 30's & 40's. Harry Enfield's intention was to cast ridicule upon the times & social impressions of days long past lol Your reaction is priceless & likely indicative of many Americans seeing this for the 1st time. We English are always prepared to poke fun at ourselves especially at our colonial past. 🤣
Unlike the Scottish, who were every bit as involved in the British Empire as we were, although England is always singled out like it was only us responsible. It would have been the English Empire if that were the case.
Lmao as an edgy dumb teenager, this was the most hilarious sh*t ever over a decade ago. I used to unironically act like this
This was wildly popular family entertainment in the UK in the 90s.
Satire at its best I love this skit
Always love me some Harry Enfield! Thanks for this laugh.
Harry Enfield is a comedy legend.

Homophobic Dad!
Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse are two of britains best comedy actors. They make fun of everything about British culture. Rich people to slobs to footballers. Check out “the slobs win the lottery”, “julio geordio” and “loadsa money”
Don't forget Mr Cholmondley Warner.
Oh yeah! Forgot the association football one. Hilarious!
Being a Geordie, I love the julio Geordie😂
It makes me smile, these days we have profanity everywhere, passing itself off as humour, and to see this now genuinely shocking a younger generation and may I say, a lot of our friends from across the pond is a joy, really. Harry Enfield an extraordinary talent, with a string of characters he would inhabit, along with his sidekick, Paul Whitehouse, they would have us in stitches during the '90's. So glad you enjoy it!😆
Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse produced fantastic comedy series for the BBC and yes there is plenty more of these parodies of public information films, do source them out. I am so glad you enjoy them.loved your reaction.
What makes you think people on TikTok haven't already lost their minds?
I'd laugh in the face of anyone offended by this. It is hilarious 😂
In the UK we grow up on this kind of stuff it’s irony and is meant for us to see the absurdity of yes as you say how people did think in recent history but now we can see how ridiculous we were and how we have moved on. We also should learn not to take ourselves too literally .
I couldn't believe this was a parody.
It just seems to hit the mark perfectly.
A lot of these deranged women have entered the political arena and have even been in charge of motor vehicles ffs!
Don't be sorry for having a laugh, it's just comedy 😂
Watching an American intake good ol British comedy is always fun
Bless you. This is quite old now but there's not many a person fom the UK would be shocked by this. It is "Theatre of the absurd" hillarious because people did used to think like this - ridiculous
Over the decades I have known more than a few Women Bosses who heed to this and even if you look at our Female PMs we can see them, totally surrounded by Men like Maggie Thatcher, over her 3 terms and Theresa May.
The brightest and most intelligent Woman I ever knew in my 69 years(this week) was one of the first Female Civil Engineers to get a First Class Degree from Imperial College, London and she would have nothing to do with Women at all....:)
He did a number of 1950s parodies, Self defense, Conjugal rights, When Harry met Sally...
That's why it's called comedy, take a chill pill bro.
There’s 2 more.
Women for pity’s sake don’t drive.
And
Women keep your virtue.
They are all great!
A 30 year old sketch parodying 70 year old attitudes. Watch the rest of them, there's at least 5 more 😂
Awesome British humour 😂 great reaction bro, much love from 🇬🇧
Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse were 2 of the greatest.. All the grayson and chimney-warner sketches were hilarious 😂
Cholmondley-Warner, pronounced 'chumley' Warner.
@@susannamarker2582 feckin auto correct 🤦🏻♂️🤣 imagine actually thinkin it's chimney 🤣🤣🤣
It's a send up of information films from the old days british sense of humor at it's best
The surgeons, 40 to 45 is a brilliant sketch 😊😊😊

And this is what comedy is. Stepping on toes, taking the piss.
Sarcasm really is alien to Americans. 😂😂
I absolutely LOVE it when Mr. L Boyd loses his marbles!!!
Misery is an instant classic. Especially that hobbling scene!!! I locked myself in my room for a month! At least!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Us Brits often say that Americans don't understand irony. Actually, most do. I find it almost impossible to believe that you don't understand what's happening here. Surely, you've got to be kidding. No one over the age of 12 is that naive. 😵💫
This is amazing feminist satire, from 90's UK comedy. :)
I'd make this joke, over and over and over as us men are the butt of it.
This is Enfield and Whitehouse. You should check out Whitehouse's new incarnation. I's stunning.
He has a friend in comedy, for may years who unexpectedly had to undergo extensive heart surgery. Whitehouse has also done through it. He took his friend, Bob Mortimer out fishing (Whitehall's life passion) to try and help him. The resild is a BBC series that is a thing of beauty. Stunning scenery, unparalleled friendship and also a champion of mental health as well as men's health.
I think it's on its 5th series now. If you want to see the antidote to reality TV, this is it.
It's a thing of kindness, lifelong friendship and beauty; by two ld men. :)
You should not be shocked or appalled. This is laughing at the bad people and the dated patriarchy! This is a thing of beauty.
More Harry Enfield please
Your reaction is everything that the sketch was looking for. 😂
Stop feeling guilty……ITS CALLED COMEDY!!!!!!!!!
Harry Enfield too funny 😂
It’s just a brilliant bit of comedy and we should laugh and enjoy
I forgot how funny harry enfield and chums was, mr. Dead was gold!
I'm not sure Mr Lboyd understood this was humour. Highlights the difference between the American and British sense of humour
Shit used to be like that back then.. 50's and earlier
Not really. That's the perception, and sure, there were ignorant assholes, but all you have to do is watch movies and read books actually written in those eras. Obviously there are things in them that still offend modern sensibilities, and there are some that fit the stereotype, but actually think about some of the popular media with female leads. The Wizard of Oz came out in 1939, and is primarily about a young girl being more observant and confident than those around her, bringing out the best in others and outsmarting the old man pretending to be something he's not. Then you have movies like Adam's Rib in 1949 where you have a husband and wife lawyer pair on opposite sides of a case, or Donna Reed's character in It's a Wonderful life whose quick thinking saves her husband's small savings and loan when there's a run on the banks.
While these characatures of the time period and some of the more ignorant people in them are funny, we need to be mindful that they are actually characaturs and not an accurate representation.
British sarcasm = American sphincter workouts
Sadly, many people today will see the subject/topic of a comedy sketch and instantly condemn it. The joke here isn't mocking women, it's actually taking aim at how women were treated/perceived by society while mocking those who still think this way. The woman in question was correct (if I remember correctly) when giving her opinion on the economy, hardly a harridan... although there may be some truth behind the beard growth thing.
It's a Harry Enfield comedy sketch, it's from I think either Harry Enfield and chums or the fast show. Both where utterly hilarious
More Harry Enfield !
I’m a British woman and this was comedy on in the 1990s it’s the funniest most hilarious thing lol you need to watch more episodes of their show
Comedy gold 😂 I’ve seen it so many times but it still gets me so it hurts
you do see under 25 women at university looking like that, usually protesting
nearly half the women in town nowadays, the obesity levels are shocking and most look worn if not plastic
You have a great voice, I can understand every word. Thanks!
The finest days of U.K. TV Comedy!
Absolutely hysterica!! Old 63 year marcher for rights for everyone. I just bought new walking shoes.❤❤😂
It is called humor, everybody used to have it, and everybody used to understand that.
*humour
Ahhh the good ole days!
Theres a lot going on in this sketch. Attitudes were like this back in the day, it’s a bit of a satirical history lesson. Public information/improvement films did exist to teach us how to be ‘correct’. But this was also a comment on the British Empire with its top down, ‘we know we’re right’ hierarchy’s, laced with the class and misogynistic attitudes of the day. It’s just bloody funny.
3:55
I would DEFINITELY make this joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Look at what happened in Britain once women got the vote: two world wars, Spanish flu, the great depression in the 1930s, covid 19, the list goes on.
This could be any one of a million bro podcasts
This was made in the 90's.. It's a comedy spoof made in black and white to look old.. Clearly you were fooled by it.. Obviously British comedy fans knew because this is just one of many comedy sketches produced by Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse..
Your reaction is priceless, gold.
There's a whole series of these by Harry Enfield.
There is more like this.."for gods sake woman, stay away from the car!" ;)
This is getting at and taking the piss out of men and how ridiculous they used to be. It's also hilarious!
I am old enough to have been told by my grandmother not to “show off” because no one would want to marry me. 🙄
The thing with jokes is who is the butt of it. In this video, it’s entrenched misogyny. In, for instance, Blazing Saddles, it was racism. Anyone who used the n-word was unquestionably the bad guy
You know what's really sad, that people can't tell the difference between who's being joked about anymore :/ Like in Tropic Thunder the joke about RDJs character is that he is so stupid that he thinks blackface is okay but somehow that gets twisted into "wow tropic thunder is super racist"😅😅
What percentage of Americans have a sense of humour 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
That's the problem of today- watching old material with new attitudes. It's not meant to be taken seriously- and if anything highlights old attitudes in a funny light- just take it for what it is...
Glad you like Mr Cholmondley Warner! If you love this kind of stuff, British comedy is full of this stuff. We've got DECADES of this king of humour! I do think British subtlety in comedy is very hard to surpass. With the possible exception of Bill Hicks.
Check Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse they made many series. Including the Fast Show. It was many years ago.
DONT FEEL GUILTY! It’s just humour
Lol. I've not seen you laugh this hard before.
This was a parody of early ‘Public Information Films’ on U.K. TV.
It's not from the 50's, it is just made to look that way. It's from...what, 2010 ish, maybe a few years earlier from Harry Enfield's show with Paul Whitehouse who was in "The Fast Show" which has some genius moments in it.
1990s. Early 1990s.
I love when the brain blows up
Wait till he reacts to the sketch about David Cameron probably being a queer, his mind is gonna blow 🤯 or even better react to Brass eye 'good aids' sketch.
I’m a woman and I find this hilarious 😂. This is British humour I get it, but maybe many can’t see the funny side. We are great at sarcasm.
If you want more of the same, check out Harry Enfield's Women can't drive. This is satire, which is a form of humour which Brits are good at and Americans struggle with.
That's the way it was back in the day. Comedians were free to have a go at pretty much anything provided it got a laugh. Though to be fair, the US had their share too. George Carlin springs to mind. Being able to laugh at ourselves is probably a healthy state of affairs.
I do remember seeing that & believe it or not, I remember seeing that show broadcast in the mid 90's. The most funny thing today is that this joke is quite relevant for today (perfect example wNBA). I also see how some female soldiers think that they can take on a man & win when, in actual fact, they really don't. Some women nowadays just want to run their mouths yet funnily enough you've got this joke which shockingly blunt & to the point (& for that you do have to agree that is genius) but if anyone were to even try & say such a thing today they would be cancelled immediately.
Sometimes saying the opposite can have a more striking effect.
It is a parody, in the 1940s and 50s they would run public information films in the cinema before the main feature.
It was always that type of voice and most times in black and white.
They would depict women looking at fashion and men looking at cars or football 😂😂😂
Its a skit of the age this is set in the 30s or 40s where this happened years ago , shows how times have changed
brilliant british humour harry enfield and paul whitehouse were brilliant.
English humour.
British comedy at it's best in an era when people weren't offended by EVERYTHING. I love to see the woke PC brigade getting offended by comedy like this , it makes me smile 😊.
You have to watch little britain, blackadder goes forth..flying training ( lord flashheart)
It starts by saying "Public IMPROVEMENT Film" which parodied the 1950s "Public ANNOUNCEMENT Films".
I am not sure your audience saw the expressions due to the blurred screen that does not appear on any other reaction to this. lol
"Women Drivers" is another by Harry Enfield that is in the same comedic vein.
The BBC:The British Broadcasting Corporation has been the most prestigious in The World for the last 70+ years,my friend...:)
Comedy gold 😂
🇬🇧😊😅. Love Harry Enfield.
The BBC is “British Broadcasting Channel”
Corporation, actually
Americans are shocked and upset over most British jokes. It's a joke enjoy it. And the culture of the British is they don't take themselves so seriously,
It was not the 1950s. It was the 1930s, almost a 100 years ago. It was a piss take/joke at the attitudes of that period.
You need to look up the 'women drivers' by Harry Enfield. Fantastic stuff!
And ‘where’s the bloke’
HaHaHa. You were trying so hard no to laugh. This a clip from a legendary British sketch show. Clearly satiring how ridiculous things were in the early part of the 20th century.
It's a comedy spoof. Yes, it was like that in the 50s well funny
Harry Enfield produced lots of these comedy skits in the early 1990s. You should watch women for pity's sake don't drive and women keep your virtue next.
Its actually based on public information programming.. stuff close to this actually existed, pretty freaky 😅
This is utterly hilarious. It's a spoof of the public information films of the 1950s, which were kind of similar to this, but Harry Enfield has taken it to the extreme and it's so so funny and well done. This was done in the 90s when people still recognised satire and had a sense of humour.
This is a study on the absolute absurdity of the way old information films were constructed. It's a subtle and beautiful attack on the misogyny of old. The only people who should be offended by this is misogynists and to me that's fair game!!!
irony & satire is lost on Americans. I’ve lived here for over 22 years and I can count on two fingers the number of ‘reactions’ that really get humor like this…
This is a take of a 1950 newsreel shown in the cinema.
This is how it was in the nineteenth and twentyith century in England
Harry Enfield - GAY SON and Harry Enfield - South African Pharmacist - BOTH BRILLIANT but wouldn't get aired today.
