I’m one of those guys he referred to. 5 handicap playing muscle back blades because of my club delivery and benefit from the turf interaction of a thinner sole and more traditional lofts. The thinner sole gets into and out of the ground more easily for me. The added loft gives me more launch, manageable spin and better descent angles.
My swing is inside out, somewhat steep and I hit down on the ball a bunch. When you put a club with a lot of bounce in my hands I start hitting everything thin. Especially wedges and scoring irons.
As I get further up the set I can go to a wider sole in the 5 & 6 iron because my swing gets a bit shallower as the shaft length increases.
I hit my irons great and people are amazed that I’m playing blades. I just tell them they work for me.

Just got fit for a T100/150 combo set yesterday! Found out I'm hitting a lot of balls off the toe of the club necessitating more length (+1/2" to +1") and more of a flat lie angle (2 UP to 0 UP) than I had played previously. Hopefully it works out because Titleist irons are sweet!

I’m training for LD but I also like playing regular golf. My 8 iron speed is around 107-108 mph. I have x7 hard stepped but they feel awful and I used to have ctaper but the tips bend. Is there another option you’d recommend?

One other option that populates in our S3 Fitting Software is Project X LS 7.0 130g... Defintley worth trying.

Based on this, other than it's not always practical - why do we get fit for clubs that we hit off grass & soil on these unrealistic mats?

Your needs still show up in your strikes and club and ball data off a mat.
