Heathrow Pods

  • A ride experiencing the excellent Heathrow Pods, the personal, electric, rapid transit system between Heathrow Terminal 5 and Business Parking A and B. The vehicles use opportunity charging which means that they top up their batteries at the stations and at designated parking areas around the system. Progress is rapid and vehicles are laser guided and steered by the computer on board. The system works entirely automatically with a controller keeping a watchful eye over everything with the ability to manage any breakdowns or passenger issues. All in all this is an excellent system with real promise to be applied elsewhere. I intend to return soon.

But I guess its money, and an expensive experiment, which isn't ready to transport the million people that travel every year... if that was used by everyone, it definitely wouldn't be in the relatively new looking condition. Hi Daniel, new Irish subscriber here in Manchester U.K. - while I’ve seen these Heathrow pods before, aside from Dublin Airport, I can’t see why these pods can’t be used for getting from Dublin Port’s Stena & Irish Ferries passenger terminals at North Wall into Dublin City Centre - currently, we don’t even have the LUAS trams going all the way to the Port (only as far as the Gibson Hotel/02 Arena) and not even DART Underground - arriving off the ferry from Holyhead on SailRail, we usually have a lot of luggage, so this would be an ideal solution for us rather than the cramped buses they use, as there is not even taxis operating to/from the port
