Karla Bonoff -- "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" is a gut-wrenching, lonely pleading cry. I shivver when I hear it. "The Water is Wide" is another of Karla's songs. James Taylor made it a hit. "Tell Me Why" "All My Life" "Goodbye My Fri end" "Home" are also Karla's work and have also been hits for Ronsadt, James Taylor and Jimmy Webb. Also Wendy Waldom was a writer who lent songs to artists.

This is pure Karla folks, and she's a force to be reckon'd with . . . While Linda Ronstadt also sang this one with great finesse, there's no real reason to give her credit on this track. Karla blows me away.
Linda Ronstadt recorded this as well as Karla Bonoff. When Linda sings someone else's song, it is better than the original. Not this time. Karla's version is the best, maybe because it comes from her heart. Go see and listen to her. Karla is still touring.
Nice to see Karla doing her thing in the day. Often overlooked but an amazing singer and song writer. This a perhaps her best song.

Karla Bonoff did not write songs FOR Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Winona Judd, or Aaron Neville. She wrote her own songs on her own albums. They were such good songs that others wanted to record them. She is a great songwriter. Unfortunately, she had to compete with Carly Simon, Carol King, and Joni Mitchell, at the same time.

Love this song. It is sometimes attributed to a country artist Kenny Edwards with whom she collaborated on two songs, Baby Don't Go and Trouble again. But he is not associated with this song.
he played backup for and vocalized with karla until he died of cancer. he was not really considered a country artist. he performed his own music but was known more for singing backup and playing guitar for rock and folk rock performers.
it is not rare. from your title i thought linda was going to perform this with karla. that would have been rare unless it was in the studio to provide backing vocals.
